Chapter 71

~5 min read 963 words

Han Li frowned tightly and said nothing.

He had just taken the pulse, examined the tongue coating and pupils, and preliminarily determined that this poison was the same as the “Chained Fragrance Thread” he had used before—a compound poison. To individually eliminate each toxic component within it, Han Li lacked such ability; he could only try the “Clear Spirit Powder” and a few other unorthodox methods.

Thinking of this, Han Li silently cursed the other physicians who dared not attempt detoxification but dumped the problem onto him, yet still pretended to be deep in thought.

After a while, Elder Zhao couldn’t hold back and asked:

“You brat! Can you save Elder Li or not? Say something!”

“Elder Zhao, you’re too impatient! Don’t you see Young Master Han is already thinking of a solution? Be patient!” Before Han Li could answer, Master Ma put on a benevolent face and scolded Elder Zhao.

Elder Zhao glared and opened his mouth to speak, but Han Li didn’t wait—he let out a light cough, cutting off his intent to speak.

His cough drew surprised glances from everyone in the room; only then did Han Li realize that, at his age of teens, imitating an elder’s cough seemed absurd. But it didn’t matter—the goal had been achieved. He didn’t want to hear any more of their bickering.

“This poison is a compound one, and detoxifying it is indeed troublesome. I cannot guarantee complete success, but I can try. The process carries some risk and may endanger Elder Li’s life. Do any of you still wish me to proceed?” Han Li feigned hesitation and spoke these words.

For him, it would be better if no one let him attempt detoxification—he truly had little confidence.

Han Li’s words left the family members exchanging uneasy glances; none dared to approve immediate detoxification, yet it seemed the other physicians were even less capable.

After a long pause, Li’s wife, Lady Li, suddenly spoke up:

“How much confidence do you have, Young Master Han, in saving my husband?”

“Fifty percent,” Han Li replied without hesitation.

“Then go ahead, Young Master Han. If my husband truly dies, I will not blame you—it is fate.” Lady Li’s expression hardened resolutely, surprising Han Li with her immediate decision.

“Sister-in-law, shouldn’t you think more carefully? This young physician is so young—I’m worried it’s risky!” Elder Zhao grew anxious and hurried to dissuade Lady Li’s impulsive choice.

“I’ve thought it through. If we don’t let Young Master Han detoxify him, my husband won’t survive the night. Better to risk it—there’s still a fifty percent chance.” Lady Li spoke softly, head bowed, her voice tinged with sorrow.

“This...” Elder Zhao was left speechless.

Han Li glanced at the others; none opposed Lady Li’s decision. He took a blue porcelain bottle from his medical satchel and poured out a red pill.

“Someone bring a bowl of warm water, dissolve this medicine in it, and give it to Elder Li.”

“I’ll go!” A clear voice rang out before Han Li finished speaking.

Zhang Xiuer, who had been standing nearby with red eyes, responded and walked out of the room.

Li Feiyu paused slightly, then immediately followed her out—this made Han Li inwardly sneer at Li Feiyu.

Soon after, Zhang Xiuer walked back in, empty-handed and looking helpless. Li Feiyu followed closely, carefully holding a white porcelain bowl.

Seeing this, everyone in the room suppressed their amusement, their faces lighting up with anticipation—this made Zhang Xiuer blush faintly, flustered and childlike in her demeanor.

Yet this incident eased the tension in the room considerably, relaxing many of the onlookers.

Li Feiyu obediently handed the bowl to Lady Li.

“Young Master Han, is this water acceptable?” Lady Li turned to ask Han Li’s opinion.

“Yes.”

Han Li glanced at the white bowl and nodded, then took it with one hand, dropped the pill into the water, and in an instant the entire bowl turned bright red.

“Feed it to Elder Li. Women are more careful—you should do it.” Han Li extended his hand and returned the bowl to her.

Lady Li immediately accepted it without hesitation.

For her, every word from Han Li now concerned her husband’s life—how could she not obey?

“Just what kind of medicine is this?” Elder Zhao, watching Lady Li slowly pour the large bowl of red liquid into Elder Li’s mouth, could no longer contain himself and asked the question everyone wanted to know.

“A detoxifying medicine I formulated myself. I hope it helps.” Han Li spoke casually.

He didn’t want anyone to know the name “Clear Spirit Powder”—who knew if this miraculous detoxifying remedy might bring him trouble? Better to stay low-key.

About a meal’s time after ingestion, the black discoloration on Elder Li’s face began fading gradually; the poison spots on his body lightened and shrank.

This obvious change—even laypeople could tell—Elder Li’s poison was steadily weakening, and things were improving.

Seeing this, everyone in the room broke into smiles; their gazes toward Han Li were now completely different. Only Elder Zhao still clung to his pride, letting out a faint snort—but his expression had softened noticeably.

Seeing the poison begin to recede without him taking any further steps, Han Li was also surprised.

The “Clear Spirit Powder” was this effective? That exceeded his expectations. Perhaps this poison wasn’t as potent as he’d imagined, he thought.

As things improved, Han Li felt frustrated—for two reasons: First, he had just warned of risks in the detoxification process, but if the poison vanished so easily, it would make him look like a liar, as if he’d deliberately deceived them.

Second, why was the “Clear Spirit Powder” so effective on others’ poison but useless against his own Yin Poison? He still burned with worry over his own condition.
