Chapter 812: Having a Fit?
Tuan Tuan startled, fell onto the grass with a thump, and the egg rolled out of her hand.
The crimson‑golden shadow jerked in the air, then lunged toward the rolling egg.
But immediately, it was firmly smacked into the grass by two snow‑white paws, twitching a few times.
"Tuan Tuan!" the people behind shouted in alarm, leaping forward.
Tuan Tuan stared and saw it was a little snake.
Huh, why does this little snake look so familiar?
The triangular snake head was pounced on by Xiao Feifei, who pressed it down with both front paws, while its tail weakly slapped the grass blades.
The little snake was gaunt, its scales dry and dull, flopping limp on the grass, a pair of crimson vertical pupils staring straight at the egg in the grass.
The crowd gathered around.
Xiao Ningchen, the fastest, scooped up his sister: "Tuan Tuan! Did it bite you?"
Feng Zhou gasped, stepped back two paces: "Snakes! I'm most afraid of snakes!"
Lu Qi examined closely: "Why does this snake look like this?"
"Are there this many snakes here?" Xiao Er asked: "A few days ago the miss said a snake crawled into her tent at midnight."
Xiao Ningxun drew the Dagger from his boot and aimed to slash the snake's head.
"Wait, Third Brother!" Tuan Tuan called out to him.
The little snake struggled to lift its head, but Xiao Feifei held it tight; its tail tip brushed the grass twice, then fell weakly.
It seemed on the brink of death, only its belly faintly rising, yet its eyes stared fixedly at the cooked egg.
Tuan Tuan patted Second Brother's shoulder: "Second Brother, let me get down. You see it's been staring at the egg; it's just starving."
Xiao Ningchen glanced at the immobilized little snake, looking half‑dead, and set his sister down: "Be careful."
Xiao Yuanhang walked to his daughter, crouched and pulled her into his arms.
Tuan Tuan pointed at the snake: "Dad, this is that beautiful little snake! Remember?"
Xiao Yuanhang frowned: "Is that so? It looks similar, but the color's different and it lacks the ringed pattern."
"It's that little snake!" Tuan Tuan slipped out of her father's arms, moved her hand to shift Xiao Feifei's paw off the snake's head: "Xiao Feifei, it's the little golden snake that was spinning in Dad's tent last time!"
"You played with it for half a day, do you remember?"
Xiao Feifei tilted her head, her fluffy tail swishing left and right.
The little snake trembled, raised its head, then drooped limp again.
Tuan Tuan looked at the crowd, pointed at the egg in the grass: "It's not trying to bite me; it's hungry and wants to eat this."
After speaking, she crouched, picked up the egg, carefully brushed off grass and dust, broke off a small piece of egg white and held it to the snake's mouth: "You're hungry, right? Eat quickly, it's so fragrant."
The snake's vertical pupils narrowed, staring at Tuan Tuan as if recalling something, frozen dumbly.
Tuan Tuan nudged the egg white forward again: "See? Eat now."
The snake's gaze shifted; survival instinct made it finally decide to eat the egg first.
It strained to open its mouth, trying to swallow the egg white.
But its palate was dry, its throat seemed blocked.
The egg white stuck at its mouth, swallowed then spat out, unable to swallow.
It tried twice, the egg white slipped from its mouth into the grass.
Finally, it drooped its head listlessly, like a withered leaf blown down, and lay back weakly.
"This snake looks like it's near death," Xiao Er said. "I guess these days, because snake‑repelling medicine has been scattered everywhere, it hasn't been able to eat."
Seeing this, Feng Zhou grew bolder, stepped forward, and observed closely: "Snakes are quite resistant to starvation; from this, it's been at least a dozen days without food."
"But this snake is too odd," Xiao Ningxun noted sharply, "Where does a snake only eat cooked eggs?"
"It should be catching mice or insects; why is it starving like this? Could it be that someone raised it improperly?"
"Miss," Lu Qi said, finding the snake's color and appearance off‑putting, "It looks strange; ignore it, let it be."
Tuan Tuan's little eyebrows knit.
She placed the egg on the grass and reached out to touch the little snake.
Xiao Ningchen swiftly scooped her up: "Don't touch!"
Tuan Tuan clutched his neck: "But, Second Brother, it's almost starving to death, I want to save it."
Chu Yuan sighed lightly, "My disciple can't stand seeing these little things suffer: 'Tuan Tuan, it can't eat anything now, how can you save it?'"
Tuan Tuan slipped from Second Brother's arms onto the ground, walked over, and touched its icy scales.
The scales were rough and dry, like cracked bark.
Xiao Feifei circled it, seemingly ready to swat again.
Tuan Tuan's eyes lit up: "Right, Xiao Feifei!"
When it was just a Gu Worm, wasn't it near death, revived by drinking my blood?
Later it grew more beautiful, becoming its current form.
Tuan Tuan looked down at her pale, tender little finger, then at the barely‑living golden snake sprawled on the grass.
"Wait a moment." She slipped the finger into her mouth, bit hard, and a string of blood droplets spurted from the wound.
"Tuan Tuan!" the crowd shouted.
"It's nothing! Just a few drops!" Tuan Tuan said nonchalantly, "Maybe it'll revive it; I'll give it a try."
She placed the finger near the snake's mouth; blood droplets ran down the fingertip and fell onto its mouth.
The snake shivered all over; its once‑dull vertical pupils suddenly brightened.
It opened its mouth, its tongue darted out quickly, licking the blood at its lips.
Fresh blood dripped drop by drop, and it greedily swallowed it into its belly.
Tuan Tuan squeezed his fingers and coaxed out a few drops: "Drink more slowly, there's no one competing with you; Xiao Feifei wasn't this eager back then."
Xiao Feifei let out an annoyed "eek," his big tail sweeping across the ground.
The golden snake finished drinking the last drop of blood, and its whole body of scales burst outward violently.
It sprang up from the grass, its body curving in a twisted arc in the air, then crashed heavily back into the thicket.
"Not good!" Xiao Yuanhang lifted his daughter high in one arm, stepped back several paces, and held her tightly.
Feng Zhou let out an "ah," his leg went limp, and he plopped onto the grass, then Xiao Er grabbed his collar and pulled him back a few steps.
Everyone stepped back one after another.
"What's wrong with this snake?" Feng Zhou asked, his face full of astonishment, "Did it have a fit?"
Xiao Ningxun gripped the Dagger tightly, ready at any moment to cut it in two if it seemed improper.
