Chapter 87: Everyone Can Go Home Now!

~7 min read 1,203 words

Wu Qilin's eyes flicked rapidly; he had a surefire winning move: "Throw! Let's compete in dart throwing! See who can hit more accurately! This is real skill, not something you can bluff with luck!"

Throwing requires hand‑eye coordination and force control; he considered himself to have trained for years, and thought he could never lose to a little kid again.

Zuo Zhengji heard that and almost lost his breath.

This class is totally hopeless! From the Nine Linked Rings to darts, is the next step to tear the roof off the house?

He was about to scold Wu Qilin, but saw the little Master Ancestor nod decisively: "Alright!"

He silently swallowed his words again.

Soon, a small wooden dartboard, painted with a rough target ring for practicing the basics of the "Shooting Rite", was moved to the front.

To raise the difficulty, Wu Qilin had someone fetch a tiny copper coin with a minuscule square hole in the center, tied it with a thin rope, and suspended it directly in front of the board.

A dart must pass through the coin's square hole and embed in the target's center behind it to count as a true victory.

"Watch closely!" Wu Qilin inhaled deeply, picked up a sleek willow‑leaf dart, held his breath, focused, aimed at the gently trembling coin, and snapped his wrist.

"Swoosh!"

The dart became a silver streak, precisely threading the tiny square hole, and with a "thud" it lodged firmly on the edge of the board!

Although it missed the bullseye—and even the red ring around it—it managed to pierce the moving coin hole, which was already an exceptionally accurate shot!

"Good!" the surrounding students shouted in cheers; Wu Qilin lifted his chin proudly, glowering at the small figure seated at the table.

Tuan Tuan glanced at the board, reached out to Zuo Zhengji: "Give me one."

Zuo Zhengji carefully handed over a dart, her heart pounding as if to her throat, fearing the girl might not hold it steady and impale herself.

Tuan Tuan clenched all five fingers, gripping the dart in her tiny fist as if holding a stick.

That stance—forget about accuracy; even whether she could throw it seemed questionable.

Around her, a wave of unabashed snickers rose again.

Tuan Tuan made two quick gestures and set the dart down.

Wu Qilin laughed heartily: "What's the matter, Xiao Fuzi? Giving up outright?"

Tuan Tuan glanced at him, raised a finger, and said to Zuo Zhengji: "Carry me over, it's too far here."

Zuo Zhengji resignedly lifted her and placed her on the table she indicated.

Tuan Tuan settled herself, looked at Wu Qilin: "It's as far from here as where you just threw, I'm not taking any advantage over you!"

Wu Qilin chuckled in irritation: "Don't even say it's equally far; even if you were closer, I'd still give way, as long as you can be more accurate than me!"

Tuan Tuan glanced at the gently trembling coin, then at her clenched little fist.

Then she swung her arm in a wide arc, forcefully hurling the dart toward the coin.

"Swoosh—crack!"

A faint whoosh through the air was followed by a crisp metallic clang!

Everyone's gaze instantly fixed on that copper coin.

The dart passed through the coin's square hole without a fraction of error, causing the coin to spin violently and emit a buzzing sound!

The dart's momentum held; with a "thud" it lodged at the spot nearest the red ring surrounding the bullseye.

Everyone stared dumbfounded; Wu Qilin's smug grin shattered, leaving only shock and bewilderment on his face: "How could this happen? How is it possible?"

He gritted his teeth, still unwilling to accept: "I'm not convinced! One more time!"

Tuan Tuan was unfazed: "Fine! No matter how many times you try, you'll keep losing!"

Wu Qilin hummed, steadied his mind, and threw the dart again; it again pierced the coin and lodged firmly in the board's central red bullseye, even more accurate than before!

He exhaled, a sigh settling in his gut: "I've already hit the bullseye, how can you still beat me? This round is definitely mine!"

"So accurate!"

"Xiao Fuzi, you're done this time. Even if you could still hit, the bullseye is so tiny and already occupied; a tie is impossible!"

"Exactly, Xiao Fuzi's bragging was premature!"

"Right! No matter how many more throws, she wins! Your bragging is busted!"

"Wu Qilin, you're impressive! How did you train? To have such accuracy!"

Praise rose all around; Wu Qilin, smugly, made a beckoning gesture toward Tuan Tuan: "Come on, Xiao Fuzi, it's your turn."

Zuo Zhengji looked at Tuan Tuan and thought, "That little kid, she won't start crying, will she?"

Tuan Tuan tilted her head, glanced at the dart in the bullseye, stood up at the table, and reached again to Zuo Zhengji: "Give me another!"

Zuo Zhengji helplessly handed her another dart: "Little Master Ancestor, stay steady, don't fall—getting hurt isn't a game!"

Tuan Tuan glanced at the bullseye and threw the dart from her hand once more.

The dart flew like a released arrow, cleanly passing through the coin, splitting the dart Wu Qilin had just landed from its tail and sending it flying, while it itself took its place, driving deep into the exact center of the bullseye!

Tuan Tuan hopped up on the table joyfully: "I win! I win!"

This time, after a brief calm, the classroom erupted in enthusiastic applause and amazement.

"Incredible! Xiao Fuzi!"

"Winning like this! How did you think of it?"

"Wu Qilin, this time you have no choice but to admit defeat!"

Wu Qilin, fully convinced, bowed deeply to Tuan Tuan: "Xiao Fuzi! I concede!"

All the students, without hesitation, saluted Tuan Tuan as well: "Xiao Fuzi!"

Zuo Zhengji's legs went weak; she instinctively braced herself against the nearby desk to stay upright.

He glanced at the little kid still dancing happily on the table, then at the dart in the bullseye still trembling slightly, his mind a blank,

This isn't some little Master Ancestor at all; it's clearly a living legend here to wreck the place!

Tuan Tuan stood on the table, taller than them, and nodded contentedly: "Good! We had so much fun today, everyone can go home now!"

Everyone was stunned: go, go home?

According to the usual schedule, it's still early for the dispersed studies! They all unconsciously looked toward Zuo Zhengji.

Zuo Zhengji awkwardly reminded Tuan Tuan: "Little Master Ancestor, their homework isn't done yet…"

Tuan Tuan looked puzzled: "My disciple had me teach them, I've finished teaching! Of course we can go home now!"

Zuo Zhengji recalled the teacher's words, completely gave up, and told the students: "Since the Little Master Ancestor has spoken, today's lessons stop here! Everyone go back! Don't slack off on your homework!"

The students were overjoyed, shouting in unison, "Thank you, Little Master!" and happily dispersed.

Tuan Tuan looked at Zuo Zhengji and asked, "Where's Third Brother? I want to go home with him."

Zuo Zhengji picked her up from the desk and led her to find Cui Daisheng.

Cui Daisheng hurriedly had someone call Xiao Ningxun from another classroom, and the brother and sister boarded the carriage back home.
