Chapter 107: Two-Ring Earth Vein Creatures

~6 min read 1,184 words

The peaceful days of "grinding mobs and leveling up" did not last forever.

After dinner, as the camp gradually fell quiet, a sudden commotion erupted.

Gao De felt something stir and turned toward the source of the noise.

In one corner of the camp, a massive worm abruptly burst from the ground, leaving behind a crater as if struck by a meteor.

The worm stood over ten meters tall and nearly a meter in diameter—its sheer size alone induced a suffocating sense of oppression.

Its enormous body was entirely covered in dark purple chitinous armor.

Its gaping maw, lined with sharp teeth, was as wide as a human’s height.

At this moment, an unlucky city guard was clamped inside its jaws.

With a single gulp, without chewing, the armored city guard vanished down its throat.

A living person simply disappeared.

“No skinning? Afraid of choking?” Gao De’s pupils shrank as he witnessed this firsthand.

His feet had already moved instinctively away from the worm.

Even Gao De, with his limited experience, could tell this giant worm was no 0-ring earth vein creature—it was at least a 1-ring, possibly even a 2-ring earth vein creature! Such a being was far beyond what a mage apprentice should even glance at.

Clearly, one soldier was not enough to satisfy the purple worm.

It moved again, lowering its head to bite another soldier who hadn’t managed to flee.

Nearby mage apprentices cast spells, trying to save him.

After a surge of magical energy, a whip-like bolt of lightning lashed out.

Pzzt!

The seemingly fierce lightning strike hit the worm’s chitinous shell—and vanished without effect, as if striking an insulator.

It wasn’t just lightning.

Fire, acid, poison gas—many nearby mage apprentices cast spells, but no matter the spell, each one vanished against the worm’s body like a drop of water sinking into desert sand, leaving no trace.

“It’s a 2-ring earth vein creature—the Purple Worm! Everyone, scatter immediately!”

A government 1-ring mage shouted loudly, terrified someone might foolishly attack the worm and cause unnecessary casualties.

A 2-ring earth vein creature could only be handled by a 2-ring mage.

Even we 1-ring mages could only offer minimal support.

As for mage apprentices, we couldn’t threaten the worm at all—we’d only get in the way.

At the words “2-ring earth vein creature,” no one dared stay. Panic erupted; everyone scattered in flight.

In this short time, the Purple Worm had struck repeatedly, swallowing five people: four guards and one unlucky mage apprentice.

Only then did Viersa, the sole 2-ring mage in the main force, arrive late.

She moved with incredible speed, each step covering four or five meters.

This speed surpassed human limits—clearly the effect of a spell.

Upon arriving, Viersa’s gaze immediately locked onto the Purple Worm.

She took a deep breath and swiftly, precisely, moved her fingers through the air.

Light glowed in her palms, coalescing into four shimmering darts.

Viersa’s eyes flashed with icy resolve as she thrust her arm forward—the four shimmering darts shot toward the worm like arrows released from a bow.

Along their flight paths, faint light trails lingered in the air.

These were traces left by powerful magic.

The Purple Worm clearly sensed the threat from the four shimmering darts.

But its massive body made agile evasion impossible—it could only brace for impact.

The shimmering darts arced gracefully through the air and struck the worm’s body with perfect accuracy.

Each impact rang out with a crisp sound.

The sound of magical force colliding with the worm’s hardened shell.

This time, the worm was not unharmed.

Its body trembled under the strikes; its armored shell bore visible wounds, and blood began seeping from several spots.

Though not fatal, these wounds caused the worm pain and rage. It grew furious, thrashing its massive body, trying to close the distance to Viersa.

But Viersa gave it no chance.

She retreated at astonishing speed, her hands flashing with renewed magical light.

As the spell took effect, the air around the worm grew heavy—an invisible force bound its movements.

The gravity within its area surged dramatically.

The worm’s movements slowed to sluggish clumsiness; its already slow movement became like a turtle crawling.

Simultaneously, this expanding gravity crushed the worm with unprecedented pressure, tearing open its existing wounds, widening them, and spraying blood.

The Purple Worm grew even angrier.

But clearly, its entire combat strength lay in its massive body, relying entirely on its powerful jaws and sharp chelicerae for attacks.

Both these weapons required close-range engagement.

Viersa knew this well and maintained constant distance, avoiding any close contact.

No matter how furiously the worm roared, kicking up clouds of dust, Viersa remained unmoved.

She swung her arm again—four more shimmering darts shot forth.

The Purple Worm opened its massive jaws and let out a terrifying roar, trying to intimidate Viersa with sound.

But experienced Viersa was not startled by such a trivial trick.

The four shimmering darts struck precisely at the worm’s already widened, cracked wounds.

This time, the blows penetrated deeper.

Beneath the chitinous shell, some fluid seemed to burst, dispersing into a purple mist.

Blood gushed like a fountain.

Yet Viersa showed no sign of relief upon seeing this.

She understood: giant creatures like the Purple Worm possessed extraordinary vitality. Despite its severe wounds, it was far from dead.

“Those who’ve mastered Magic Missiles, attack with me—target the wounds! Don’t damage its jaws or chelicerae!”

Viersa commanded coldly.

Clearly, she had already won—and was now considering the integrity of the spoils.

Upon receiving the order, over a dozen 1-ring enforcement mages acted at once.

It seemed [Magic Missiles] was one of the mandatory spells for enforcement mages.

Each summoned magical energy, palms glowing as they formed shimmering darts.

So these shimmering darts were what was called [Magic Missiles].

But the power contained in their darts was far weaker than Viersa’s.

Moreover, they could only summon three darts each.

These magic missiles carved bright trails through the air—though weaker than Viersa’s, they made up for it in sheer numbers.

Sensing the intense threat, the Purple Worm suddenly thrust its massive jaws into the ground.

It was trying to burrow away!

But the ground beneath it was no longer soft soil.

An invisible magical force now covered the earth—it caused the ground to tremble slightly; had the worm been smaller, it might have already toppled over.

Simultaneously, this magic hardened the soil into stone, making it impossible for the worm to dig through.

Seeing the worm struggle uselessly, Viersa smirked with cold certainty.

She had anticipated the worm would try to burrow when threatened—so she had cast [Earth Quake] beforehand, cutting off its escape.

Under Viersa’s command, the enforcement mages continued their relentless assault on the Purple Worm.

The worm writhed in agony and despair, roaring in fury and resentment—but no matter how it struggled, its fate was sealed.

Minutes later, no matter how resilient its life force, the worm could not withstand the unceasing barrage—it finally collapsed.

Like a multi-story building crashing down, it slammed into the earth, kicking up a vast cloud of dust.
