Chapter 3: Car Accident
Cloud Top Mountain is just a very small mountain, but it is close to Zaocheng Xin Cheng.
There is the quiet of the mountains here, yet it is not far from the city's bustle.
I developed this place into a villa district.
All the elites of Zaocheng can be said to be gathered together.
We formed a circle, a circle that mutually utilizes each other, relies on each other, and jointly safeguards each one's interests.
In fact, many things are like this: whether a modern person can succeed has little to do with personal effort; what matters is the kind of circle you belong to.
Forming such a circle includes, besides family ties, friendships, schoolmate ties, hometown ties, neighbor ties, and so on.
Some people have their circle for life decided from birth; that's unavoidable.
Reincarnation is a technical skill, more important than taking the college entrance exam.
For example, my daughter Ru Meng is now attending a private high school in the Provincial Capital, and her classmates are either rich or noble.
When I went to the Provincial Capital to see her, she introduced her classmates by first mentioning their parents.
Sometimes I get to know their parents through her classmates. Can Ru Meng's social circle be the same as that of an ordinary child?
The only thing is this daughter is overly pampered, wearing brand-name clothes, and her mouth is full of talk about celebrities and singers.
There is now no communication possible between me and her.
I thought of developing Hulutao, taking my daughter there to show her my growth path, so she could understand the true face of her father's generation.
That means growing up in the mountain ravine, where all success is earned through one's own effort.
The car is quiet; no outside sound can get in.
Zhou Wei is playing with the latest Apple phone, looking at various entertainment messages.
I close my eyes; because I often dream at night, I want to sleep a bit more on the road.
The car quickly entered the highway.
This highway runs through Zaocheng, and it has a great connection to me.
Back then, if I hadn't established contact with Director Qi and toppled the Liu family, this road might have been far away from Zaocheng.
But who would know that?
The past is like smoke, life is like a dream.
With the highway to the Provincial Capital, the journey is much faster; what used to take six hours now only takes three.
If you want to become rich, build roads first; Zaocheng's development into its present state is heavily linked to this highway.
I look out the car window; in no time we reach Liangshan Pass. The car is really fast.
I have a strong memory of this place; it's where I drugged Bai Lang, and he had a car accident.
In the past this spot was terribly jammed; I once got stuck there.
If Bai Lang were alive and drove on the highway today, the chance of a car accident would be minimal.
But life has no "ifs".
At this moment I said to Zhou Wei: "Contact Ru Meng, we're going to the Provincial Capital; ask her what she wants for lunch."
Zhou Wei said, "Forget it, don't contact her. Yesterday when I talked with her homeroom teacher, the teacher asked us not to bother her these days."
He wants to give her special tutoring, extra lessons. With her current grades, getting into a good university is very difficult.
I said, "If she can't get in, we can pay to get her in."
Zhou Wei said, "Er Hai, you keep saying I spoil Ru Meng; this only spoils her more. What do you mean by paying to get in? If you say that to her, I believe Ru Meng won't even attend senior year."
How can you cultivate her if she doesn't go to university? Society today is different from the past; before, knowledge wasn't needed for success, just opportunity, but now solid knowledge is required to survive better in society.
Hearing Zhou Wei's words, I felt a bit angry,
"Ru Meng will later work in management; whatever professional knowledge she needs, as long as she knows how to manage people, that's enough."
Zhou Wei then said, "Managing people requires even more knowledge. You think, as in the past, that managing a few migrant workers is enough. Ru Meng must attend a management school and study professional accounting, otherwise she won't have the ability for anyone to listen to her." Zhou Wei rebutted me.
Hearing Zhou Wei's rebuttal, I sneered, saying that managing people doesn't require any professional knowledge,
as long as they earn money and have a strong fist, that's enough.
Back then I led workers without any knowledge; managing those people in Beishan was the same.
At this moment Zhou Wei held his phone,
"Er Hai, do you now understand the new era's economic model? What is the Internet, what is online shopping, what is online office?" Zhou Wei asked.
I am unfamiliar with these newly emerged internet terms.
Deep down I reject these fresh things; I only know how to build houses and earn money. I am ignorant of everything else.
Am I really old? This question flashes again in my mind.
Fortunately Zhou Wei is by my side, and likes learning these new things. Otherwise I might truly be eliminated by society.
My phone rang,
I saw it was Xiao Hua's call,
I pressed speaker,
"Xiao Hua, what's up."
"Brother, the person in charge of the Lunan Forum of Datong Net has come to the company; he wants to visit you, meet you, and discuss important matters. When will you return from the Provincial Capital?" Xiao Hua said over the phone.
"What a damn forum, such a trivial matter, and this kind of person wants to see me? Xiao Hua, I'm the chairman of this group and have no airs. Just have Director Feng meet him. A meal will settle it. Don't report this trivial thing to me," I said, a bit angry.
"Brother, listen, this person in charge is not ordinary; find time to meet him," Xiao Hua said.
"How does he compare to the chief of Zaocheng Daily? Seriously, Xiao Hua, stop it." I hung up the phone.
After I hung up the phone,
Zhou Wei said, "Er Hai, you're still angry at Xiao Hua."
I said nothing; since that board meeting, I have had no good temper toward Xiao Hua.
This Xiao Hua actually joined forces with others to oppose me.
Zhou Wei then advised me,
"Er Hai, I advise you to still meet the person in charge of that whatever-net; nowadays young people all like to go online, and if they say bad things about Da Heng Group online, that would have a big negative impact on us."
I was just about to tell Zhou Wei, 'Don't be afraid of them; what's there to fear about such a small website?'
Suddenly, a huge boom came,
The car shook violently,
I was flung up from my seat by a powerful impact,
Then the car rolled like a toy car on the highway.
Oh no, we've had a car accident.
I shouted loudly, 'Zhou Wei, hold on!'
I wanted to reach out and grab Zhou Wei, but I simply had no strength to hold her,
The car was rolling rapidly,
The car door burst open, and Zhou Wei, like an arrow released from a bow, was thrown out by the powerful impact.
Zhou Wei fell heavily to the ground.
I held onto something in the car, which kept me from being thrown out.
After the car flipped over beneath the highway,
I lay on my back outside the car,
At that moment my mind was still clear,
I shouted loudly, 'Wu Ping, Wu Ping.'
But no voice answered me,
I tried to move my leg, and a piercing pain shot straight to my brain.
"Oh no." I cried out loudly.
At that moment I smelled gasoline,
Oh no, the car is leaking oil; if there's even a spark now, an explosion is likely.
I would be buried in a sea of fire.
I must leave immediately; this place is very dangerous.
I gritted my teeth, using all my strength to shake my leg vigorously,
I must survive,
I cannot die,
This desire to survive, intense, filled my chest.
