Chapter 118: Bat Monster

~7 min read 1,389 words

In the distant forest, leaves shook and vegetation snapped; various wild animals formed a torrent, stampeding out, nearly trampling Thomas and Yang Yi into minced meat.

Seeing the situation was wrong, Yang Yi dragged Thomas up a thick-trunked tree.

Below the tree, animals streamed toward the distance like flowing water, as if fleeing as far as possible.

Suddenly, an invisible sound wave swept through the forest, passing over leaves and branches; the animals cried out in unison, and the timid ones even froze stiff, motionless.

Yang Yi and Thomas felt their eardrums vibrate, blood rush upward, and their heads spin with dizziness.

In the dense jungle, a rustling noise erupted as a monster circled overhead.

Yang Yi looked up; the monster in the air resembled a bat, its fleshy wings spanning five or six meters when fully extended.

Its two claws gripped two children; the little girl screamed and wept in terror, while the little boy, covered in bloodstains, gave no sound, unknown whether dead or unconscious.

The bat monster quickly swept over this stretch of forest, flying deeper inward.

"It must be those two missing children! You go find the police!" Yang Yi leaped down from the tree, darting through gaps between the animals, swiftly chasing in the direction where the bat monster had vanished.

Only then did Thomas realize that when she exerted her full power, her speed was so great that her figure vanished into the jungle in the blink of an eye.

Unwilling to accept this, he gazed at that departing figure, took out his phone to call the police again, explained the situation here, and then set off in the direction Yang Yi had disappeared.

Yang Yi unleashed her body, pursuing with all her might; the trees beside her flashed past like shadows. Only when she focused her entire consciousness on a single goal—"Find the bat monster, rescue those two children"—did she feel her body was completely under her own command.

She naturally dodged the branches and twigs rushing toward her; the wind seemed to clear a path for her. She had never felt her body so light, every part moving as her heart desired.

This sensation of complete bodily control flashed through her mind, but the more important question—how to save the two children—occupied a more prominent place.

She sniffed the air with her nose, felt distant air currents with her skin, listened for subtle unusual sounds with her ears, and used her intuition to sense abnormal fluctuations in dark matter; soon, she located where the bat monster had landed.

It was a nest cradled by dense shrubs, piled together from branches and debris; three cubs, sparse of fur, opened their mouths filled with fine, dense teeth, waiting to be fed.

The bat monster landed, casually tossing the two children into the nest, and the monster cubs opened their mouths wide, charging toward the food.

The two children lay silent and still, their life or death unknown.

In urgent desperation, Yang Yi picked up two stones; she threw one beside the nest to draw attention away, and when the bat monster was distracted by the stone, the other struck swift as lightning, smashing one little monster's head until it bled profusely and collapsed unconscious on the spot.

The other two little monsters shrieked in fright, forgetting all about the food, and scattered in chaotic flight.

The bat monster let out a sharp screech, spread its fleshy wings, and dove toward Yang Yi with thunderous momentum.

The monster's wings spanned five or six meters wide, its body stood over two meters tall, two palm-sized ears stood erect, its nostrils flared outward like a pig's, its mouth occupied half its head, and it was filled with sharp teeth.

At the tips of its wing membranes were two claws, reflecting a dim, dark glow, like ten daggers.

Yang Yi admitted that relying solely on her physical strength, she could certainly not compare to it; seeing the little monsters scrambling away in fear and the two children temporarily unharmed, she immediately sprinted toward the dense forest.

The bat monster was extremely fast and held the advantage of the air; Yang Yi could only use the dense jungle to block it, leveraging the terrain to fight a guerrilla battle.

As the bat flew overhead, each time it dove, Yang Yi would plunge into the thickest part of the undergrowth; the dense canopy blocked the bat monster's attacks, buying her ample time to evade.

After being dodged by Yang Yi several times, the bat monster became furious; it opened its mouth, and an invisible ultrasonic wave attacked, its frequency exceeding the limit the human body could withstand.

Yang Yi instantly felt the fluids in her entire body boiling, her heart beating uncontrollably and trembling violently, before she collapsed face-first into the mud.

The bat monster screeched excitedly, extended its sharp claws, and pounced fiercely down upon Yang Yi.

"Freesa!" Thomas arrived, and seeing this scene, his eyes nearly split from rage as he shouted hoarsely.

At the very moment the bat monster pounced, Yang Yi suddenly rolled over to dodge the sharp claws, kicked out with her legs, leaped onto the bat monster's neck, and forcefully stuffed a stone into its mouth.

The bat monster's sharp teeth ground against the stone, actually sparking fire.

It turned out that when Yang Yi had fallen to the ground, she had already planned this strike.

With the bat monster's mouth blocked, unable to launch an ultrasonic attack, it swung the sharp claws on its wing membranes, striking toward Yang Yi.

Yang Yi twisted her body, quickly shifting to the front of the bat monster, while simultaneously clenching her fist and hammering wildly at its head.

"Go save the children!" Yang Yi shouted at Thomas.

In that momentary distraction, the bat monster's other sharp claw stabbed viciously into Yang Yi's back, nearly piercing her straight through.

"Freesa!" Thomas's footsteps halted abruptly.

Yang Yi spat out a mouthful of blood but did not dodge; instead, she tightened the muscles and bones of her back, locking the sharp claw within her body.

In this way, the bat monster's huge mouth was blocked by Yang Yi with a stone, its claw was pinned by her body, leaving only one claw free to attack.

"Go!" Yang Yi shouted.

Thomas gritted his teeth and sprinted toward the nest.

If he hesitated any longer, the opportunity Freesa had created with her life would be wasted.

The bat monster's other sharp claw attacked again; Yang Yi, suffering heavily, could no longer dodge no matter what.

Since she could not dodge, she chose not to; instead, she met it with both hands, grabbing its sharp claw and adding extra force to its already rapid speed.

"Crack—" came the sound of a skull being penetrated.

The sharp claw narrowly missed Yang Yi's neck, plunging straight into the bat monster's head, instantly causing its brain matter to burst apart.

The bat monster's body, strong as a small hill, collapsed, dragging Yang Yi down to the ground as well.

Yang Yi spat out blood, relaxed her back muscles, and with difficulty pulled the claw out of her back.

Tearing pain made her vision darken in waves.

Yet, after this struggle, her heart felt immensely satisfied; she longed to laugh aloud three times to vent this long-lost sense of relief.

Worried about the two children, she ignored her wounds and stumbled toward the monster's nest.

Finally reaching the nest, she saw Thomas raising a stone to smash violently down upon the last living little monster.

"Thomas," Yang Yi called out, enduring the pain: "How are those two children?"

"Still alive! Colin's leg and ribs are fractured, and Polly has fainted." Thomas crawled out of the nest holding the children.

Hearing this, Yang Yi's heart relaxed; the strength she had been holding suddenly drained away, and she collapsed onto the ground.

Through gaps in the dense canopy, a few lines of blue sky were visible; she felt extremely tired and in great pain, yet the stifling sensation in her heart had loosened considerably.

Her mind was groggy, and she was about to close her eyes to rest, but a small black dot in the sky circled closer; Yang Yi's heart skipped a beat, and she struggled to open her eyes wide.

It was another bat monster.
