Chapter 125: Global Crisis Mode
In a mixed-race nation on Heizhou, on a bustling street, people came and went.
Brady Monroe hurried through the crowd and entered a school. Sensing a wave of energy sweep over him, he paid it no mind and continued inside.
Amidst the clear recitation of students, he crossed the campus, reached the playground at the rear, passed through students and supervising teachers engaged in ability-based combat training, and entered a spacious office.
Upon entering, he felt a wave of dizziness in his head, which returned to normal moments later. The room held file cabinets, a desk, a computer, and potted plants; everything seemed ordinary. But he knew he was no longer on Earth, but in a rift resembling a space between Earth and another dimension.
Wade Davis sat before a computer, processing documents from around the world, including surrenders from folk ability organizations globally and work arrangements for various branches of the Divine Punishment Organization.
Seated opposite the desk were several other key members of the Divine Punishment Organization.
Brady Monroe glanced at those members, lowered his head, and reported, "Doctor, the matter you asked me to investigate has yielded results..."
Wade insisted his subordinates call him Doctor, a title for both a physician and a doctorate holder. He held two doctorates, one in psychology and one in sociology. He did not consider himself an antisocial thug and never liked riots. He liked the title Doctor; the physician aspect represented his past profession, while metaphorically reflecting his current undertaking. He was doing something cruel yet right—on some level even great. People would curse him now, but in the future, they would surely praise him.
Wade said lightly, "Just say it directly; there is no need to hide anything."
Brady Monroe had no choice but to continue reporting: "It is confirmed, Lord Argus is dead. Lord Argus vanished at the Yellow Sand Planet. Based on the timeline, this was just minutes before the altar projection disappeared..."
The moment these words left his lips, everyone turned to look at Wade.
Everyone knew what this meant: it meant that the powerful and enigmatic Lord Argus had died at the hands of Yang Yi.
"It seems we underestimated her power before..." Wade lowered his gaze and said softly, "This is my fault; I underestimated her... Moreover, this proves she cannot become our ally..."
"Fortunately, she is already dead..." said Shimojo Yuto, who was in charge of Asian affairs. However, due to Yang Yi's existence, Xia Country was a place the Divine Punishment Organization dared not touch, so they could only operate in East Asian and Southeast Asian nations outside of Xia Country.
"Did she really die?" asked Lenn Mica with some doubt. "Can someone capable of killing Lord Argus die so easily?"
Lenn Mica was a scholar whose awakened ability was B-rank Psychometry. He never participated in combat matters, focusing solely on cultivating the next generation of awakened humans. He scoured impoverished and war-torn regions across the globe for awakened children and founded this awakened school.
Wade said nothing, sinking into deep thought.
"Could she have hidden her power before?" said Edward Corey. "Didn't Doctor send you to obtain Yang Yi and her family's DNA? What were the results?" He turned to ask Brady Monroe.
He was a veteran employee of the Divine Punishment Organization, always responsible for sacrificial rites in South America. He had sacrificed at least fifty thousand lives in South America, all under the guise of threats from alien creatures, drawing no attention from local governments. He felt somewhat accomplished regarding this and was quite arrogant before his colleagues.
The moment he spoke, several colleagues nearby glanced at him, as if or as if not.
Brady Monroe looked at Wade, saw no reaction, and replied, "Obtaining Yang Yi's DNA is difficult; the Xia Country government is extremely strict in this regard. It is hard to succeed without alerting them. However, we obtained Yang Yi's family's DNA long ago. The research results were disappointing; their DNA showed almost no reaction to dark matter energy stimulation. Even if they managed to awaken by chance, they would be nothing more than the lowest-grade awakened ones."
Wade's tone was very calm: "If it could be mass-produced, it could not be called genius. All geniuses arise from chance."
After a moment of thought, he said, "Continue the Void-Eater Project. Although Argus is gone, there are many Arguses. If we succeed, we will not only become Argus, but perhaps surpass Argus, becoming the Lord's most loyal hounds."
He looked around, his tone majestic: "Remember, we must prove our worth. Look at these Void-Eaters: terrifying, powerful, and mysterious. Even A-rank awakened ones are no match for them in a single clash, yet they are merely a worm in the Lord's garden... We must persist in our great goal—saving the future of the new humans, continuing the entire civilization of mankind! To gain the Lord's favor, there is still a long road ahead..."
"Yes..." the subordinates replied in unison, their expressions fanatical, their eyes filled with firm conviction in their ideal.

Shortly after the crisis in Luzhou City, similar strange alien creatures appeared in various places around the world. Their long hair floated in the air like the tentacles of the Grim Reaper. Every time they appeared, they took away countless lives.
June 22, 2024, Edmonton City, Canada.
The Long-Haired Monster suddenly appeared in the busy downtown area of this city of over one million people, instantly taking 1,029 lives.
That same night, in a high-end community in Mont City, Mexico, the suddenly appearing Long-Haired Monster attacked people asleep. This high-end community housed several local tycoons and drug lord bosses. The next morning, local police discovered that several major drug lords, who had been sought after with every trick in the book, had fortunately vanished during this Long-Haired Monster attack.
Morning of June 23, 2024, Bangalore City, India. In this third-largest city in India by population, three Long-Haired Monsters suddenly appeared in the sky, remaining visible for as long as three hours.
The three monsters rampaged through the city. Due to the high population density and the scarcity and simplicity of air defense facilities, the death toll that day exceeded 20,000.
Evening of June 23, 2024, Gold Coast, Brisbane City, Australia. At the moment the golden sunset dipped into the sea, people playing on the beach suddenly noticed two cracks opening in the sky above...
Dunedin City, New Zealand...
Mendoza City, Argentina...
Dammam City, Saudi Arabia...
Benguela City, Angola...
As of June 25, 2024, Long-Haired Monsters had appeared in various places worldwide, causing harm. The number of lives lost to this alien creature threat had reached nearly ten million.
Since physical attacks were ineffective against them, governments worldwide organized awakened ones to fight back, resulting in heavy losses for the awakened.
Most notably, on June 24, two Long-Haired Monsters appeared over the White House in the capital of Ark Country. An A-rank awakened one used their earth-type ability to trap one of the Long-Haired Monsters, buying precious time for the president and other high officials to escape.
The Ark Country military took the opportunity to use their newly developed super dark matter weapon, severely injuring the Long-Haired Monster. Enraged, the Long-Haired Monster shot a scarlet light from the hole in its head. Wherever the light reached, everything was annihilated into nothingness. Countless figures, along with the entire White House, vanished into thin air.
Meanwhile, this honorable Lord President had long since fled under the protection of another awakened one known for speed, nicknamed "The Flash."
This incident not only exposed a portion of Ark Country's hidden strength but also revealed the Long-Haired Monster's true trump card—people finally understood the function of the hole on its head emitting scarlet light. This might have been Ark Country's only contribution to this incident.
The next day, the United Nations issued the highest-level warning in history—an SS-level warning, just one S short of the Doomsday level.
It was also at this time that the true name of this alien creature, "Void-Eater," spread from somewhere unknown.
From this day on, humanity officially entered the Global Crisis Mode.
