Chapter 135: Having Coffee with Wade

~7 min read 1,383 words

Someone calculated that from her appearance to the resolution of the last Void-Eating Beast, it took a mere three hours. After resolving the last Void-Eating Beast, her figure suddenly vanished from the news; people around the globe, longing to capture her image with their phone cameras, never saw her again.

People thought she had returned to Xia Country, but in reality, she was flying toward a place only she could sense.

The locations and frequency of these Void-Eating Beasts' appearances made Yang Yi realize this was likely another of Wade's schemes. Resolving the disaster is not as good as resolving the source of the disaster.

Previously, she lacked the ability to locate him, but having absorbed most of the Evil God's fragments, she could now easily sense regions on Earth with intense dark matter and spatial fluctuations.

While flying across the globe to resolve the Void-Eating Beast crises, she had vaguely sensed something abnormal in a certain place in Heizhou; pretending to notice nothing, she immediately turned and flew toward the location she had sensed after resolving the last Void-Eating Beast crisis.

Inland Heizhou, Chad Country, the place in Heizhou with the most frequent warfare, the most poverty, and the most chaos.

In a certain school, awakened students with special abilities were training in the training ground when suddenly, they all seemed trapped in thick glue, unable to move, and in the blink of an eye, were frozen in place.

Yang Yi's figure slowly descended; looking at these still-young awakened youths, a hint of complexity appeared in her eyes.

"I have been waiting for you for a while," someone said from behind; it was Wade's voice.

She turned; Wade stood at the door of an ordinary office, wearing glasses, looking at her with a calm gaze.

"Since that is the case, let's go!" Yang Yi said no more.

"Where to? Xia Country? Or the United Nations?" Wade asked with a smile, as if he were not about to be taken as a criminal for trial, but rather beginning a spontaneous trip.

Before arriving, Yang Yi had already spoken on the phone with the Xia Country authorities; they stated that the crimes Wade committed were against all humanity, so naturally, the United Nations would conduct the trial.

"The United Nations," Yang Yi said.

"Oh," Wade smiled gently. "Facing a global live broadcast, judged by all of humanity, is that it?"

Yang Yi said nothing.

She silently took out her phone and sent a text message to the Xia Country authorities, ordering the peacekeeping forces in Heizhou to rush over immediately to take over the other members of the Divine Punishment Organization in this area.

"You want to wait for them to arrive, so we still have time to chat, is that it?" Wade watched her action and asked understandingly.

"Actually, I don't really like chatting with you," Yang Yi looked calmly into his eyes. "I heard a saying: when you chat with someone, if you feel very comfortable, it might not be because your souls align; more likely, the other person overwhelms you on every level, can respond to any topic you bring up, and caters to your preferences, which is why you feel chatting with them is pleasant."

"Although our stances differ, I must admit that to some extent, chatting with you is indeed pleasant; every time I gain something new." Yang Yi put down her phone and said with a calm gaze.

Wade looked closely at her eyes, realizing that compared to before, she had undergone many different changes.

Before, her expression was indifferent, but that was feigned indifference; beneath that false calm, he could see intense emotions hidden, buried, and suppressed, surging within.

But now, the calmness in her gaze was real, as if those deep-seated intense emotions had already subsided or been extinguished.

"It seems you have figured some things out," Wade sighed. "It is not easy for a person to realize certain things, especially when your heart is so sensitive and painful. I am truly happy for you."

Yang Yi's five senses and intuition were far more acute than before; she sensed that he was truly happy for her.

She also said sincerely, "Thank you."

"Before they arrive, would you like to come in for a cup of coffee?" Wade invited, making a gesture of invitation with one hand.

Yang Yi smiled and walked naturally into the office.

The office door stood wide open; Wade had not closed it, making it easy to see the scene outside from inside the office. The people outside remained frozen in place, like stone statues.

Yang Yi sat casually on the sofa, half-leaning against the backrest. She looked around. "Nice place. Located in the crack between Earth and some other space? Very secretive."

"But it still couldn't hide from you, because you have grasped the most essential aspect of dark matter energy." Wade stood before the coffee machine, brewing two cups of coffee for himself and Yang Yi. "Would you like sugar?"

"Two sugars, with milk," Yang Yi said. "I don't like things that are too bitter."

Although she could no longer taste flavors, she still spoke according to her old habits.

Wade looked at her gently, added two sugars for her, and added extra milk.

Under that gaze, Yang Yi shrugged. "You know, I suffered too much since childhood; after growing up, I always liked very sweet things." Although now she couldn't even feel sweetness.

"A compensatory psychology." Wade placed a cup of coffee before her and sat opposite her with his own cup.

"I really should have met you sooner; chatting with you is pleasant." Yang Yi lifted the coffee and took a sip, showing no worry or suspicion that the other party might have tampered with it.

"If we had met sooner, chatting with me would have cost money, billed by the hour," Wade laughed, a hint of mockery flowing in his brown eyes. "I'm afraid you had no money for psychological counseling back then? Even if you did, you wouldn't have actively sought out a psychologist, would you?"

"Yes! Fate is truly wonderful; two people as unrelated as us, if dark matter had not descended upon Earth, would probably never have crossed paths. But now, we have become enemies facing off against each other." Yang Yi took another sip of coffee and said; the sticky sweetness, the fishy smell of the milk, and the burnt bitterness mixed in her mouth, causing her to frown slightly.

"Doesn't it taste good?" Wade asked. He took a sip himself. "I think it's fine."

"I'm still used to drinking plain boiled water; an old habit of Xia Country people," Yang Yi said, putting the coffee down.

The two chatted about this and that, never getting to the main point.

Perhaps they felt there was no need to say more; matters had come to this, their stances differed, and further argument was meaningless.

Besides, hundreds of thousands of people had already died directly or indirectly at Wade's hands; no amount of words could restore their lives; someone had to stand up and take responsibility.

"Do you still consider yourself Napoleon?" After a long pause, Yang Yi asked.

After asking, she suddenly laughed to herself; it was a self-mocking laugh, laughing at her own knowing the answer yet asking anyway.

If Wade had been born in ancient times, he might have become a figure greater than Napoleon and more illustrious in history than Genghis Khan.

He was a fanatic believer in ideals, a practitioner of principles; for his great goal of continuing human civilization and saving the survival and reproduction of the new humanity, he was willing to sacrifice the lives of hundreds of millions of ordinary people, becoming an executioner with hands stained red with blood.

She disagreed with his ideals and hated his actions, but she admired his ideals and respected the efforts he made for them.

Occasionally, she even thought that perhaps he was the one who was right, and she was the great villain blocking the survival of human civilization.

"Then, to this day," Wade looked at her seriously, "do you still consider yourself an ordinary person?"

Yang Yi hesitated for a moment, then said lightly, "Always have been."

Wade looked at her calmly. "You hesitated. Did you notice it yourself?"
