Chapter 181: I Can Destroy the World
Yang Yi slowly rose to her feet, looked around, and remained silent for a long while.
At some unknown moment, Lin Mu had walked to her side. "He is dead," he stated calmly.
Within Yang Yi's Absolute Domain, he could come and go as he pleased; Yang Yi did not seem particularly surprised by this.
She gave no answer, did not even acknowledge him, and went straight to the third basement level.
The guards leading underground were even more stringent, with numerous gates and verifications, yet none could stop her.
Countless steel gates opened silently before her, as if welcoming a master returning home.
She arrived at a vast underground experimental field; the space here was larger than all the floors above combined. Countless researchers in white coats stood motionless there, frozen in moments of busyness as if a pause button had been pressed.
Yang Yi strolled through the third basement level, inspecting one area after another. Many alien creatures were imprisoned here, dissected and subjected to experiments in various ways: electric shocks, high temperatures, low temperatures, sound waves, light exposure...
Yang Yi ignored all this; her main focus was on the human experiments. Those used as test subjects were treated no better than the alien creatures; the only slight improvement was that they were not locked in cages.
She entered a laboratory where a girl, appearing only sixteen or seventeen years old, lay on a chair piled with instruments. Her face was blank and dull, wires and electrodes stuck all over her head, while an irregular waveform displayed on a nearby screen.
Yang Yi restored the mobility of a nearby person in a white coat. With a blank expression, she asked, "What experiment is this?"
When Yang Yi entered, the person in the white coat knew everything here was over. Upon discovering his mobility had been restored, he immediately answered every question like beans pouring out of a bamboo tube.
"... This is stimulating her brain. After detecting her DNA and experimenting with her reactions to dark matter stimulation, we found her probability of awakening mental abilities is higher, so..."
"What harm does this cause her?" Yang Yi asked coldly without looking at him.
"... It might, it might cause permanent brain damage... severe cases... might never wake up..." The person in the white coat's voice grew quieter and quieter.
"Where did these experimented-on people come from?"
"I don't know," the person in the white coat hurriedly waved his hands. "We researchers are not allowed to discuss topics other than experiments with the test subjects. There are surveillance cameras here; getting caught would result in severe punishment..."
"If someone here awakens, what happens?" Yang Yi asked. "And what about that B-rank awakened one fighting the alien creatures above?"
"We have not yet mastered technology to stably stimulate human awakening. If someone awakens occasionally and their abilities are stable, the boss simply takes the person away. As for where they go, we are not entirely clear..."
The person in the white coat grew more and more guilty as he spoke. "As for that B-rank awakened one above, actually he did not fully awaken. We call him a pseudo-awakened. He temporarily awakened under the stimulation of some new drugs, at the cost of his life potential; he simply cannot last long... Such failed products are all treated by the boss as consumables, along with some alien creature consumables, as experimental waste, thrown into the arena for performances..."
Yang Yi asked other people in white coats some more questions and learned that this huge underground experimental field was only a small part. This so-called mastermind boss likely had other experimental fields domestically and internationally, or at least connections with other illegal human experiments, because many of the experimental results in their research came from data obtained elsewhere.
Yang Yi looked around this vast underground world, her face wearing an unchanging, ten-thousand-year-old mask of indifference; no one knew what she was thinking at that moment.
Lin Mu had been following closely behind, watching her actions. Finally, he spoke up and asked, "What are your thoughts?"
"In this current world, whoever is not interested in methods of awakening is a fool." Yang Yi's tone was flat, even slightly cold.
"So, you think this is normal?" A strange light flashed in Lin Mu's eyes as he pressed further.
Yang Yi did not answer yes or no directly. "Since it has been discovered, we shall deal with it as it should be dealt with..."
She took out her phone, dialed a certain number in the capital, and simply said a few words.
One could imagine what kind of earthquake those few words would trigger in the capital and Guangdong Province.
She turned her head away almost numbly, refusing to look at the test subjects one by one, who were either motionless, or numb, or in agony, or in a state of gruesome horror.
"Do you think this is fair to them?" Lin Mu asked.
Yang Yi sneered coldly. "Where in this world is there any fairness? Injustice is the norm throughout history; even in eras and nations with higher happiness indices, there is only relative fairness..."
"So they are naturally treated this way?" Lin Mu's tone seemed to be protesting on behalf of these victims; however, observing his eyes closely, one would discover a hidden excitement, as if he had discovered a great secret known only to him.
Yang Yi stopped in her tracks, smiling ambiguously. "Have I not already protested on their behalf? From today onward, the crimes here will be proclaimed to the world; everyone involved in this matter will receive the punishment they deserve, the protective umbrellas behind them will be thrown into prison, and the victims will receive the compensation they deserve..."
Smiling, she asked in return, "Is this not enough? In your imagination, how should this matter end?"
Lin Mu looked at her as if seeing her for the first time; the excited light in his eyes grew more intense, yet the words he spoke sounded so righteous: "You clearly have the ability to change this world; none of this should have happened in the first place!"
"What do you think I can do?" Yang Yi helplessly spread her hands. "I am a telekinetic awakened one. Putting aside the telekinesis itself, I am an ordinary person in every other aspect; I do not even understand politics..."
"But you can change the world." Lin Mu emphasized again. "Only you can change this world!"
"More accurately, I can destroy the world." Yang Yi seemed unaware of the shocking words she had just spoken. "I have a sharp axe; this axe can chop and split, its power is great, but it is not suitable for carving flowers. Now this carved flower, although flawed, is still somewhat beautiful, but if I rashly use the axe to re-carve it, the result might be nothing but a pile of fragments on the ground."
"You are simply afraid to bear responsibility; these are merely your excuses." Lin Mu sneered.
Yang Yi crossed her arms and sneered back. "Why should I change the world? Who gave me this responsibility? Was I born with this responsibility? What does it have to do with me!"
Lin Mu, as if hearing a huge scandal, smiled even more strangely. "Are you not the God of Humanity? Are you not secretly called the Saint of Morality? You have not even killed a single person to this day!"
"You attached yourself to Lin Mu and guided me here just to tell me these things?"
