Chapter 27: The Sinner of Humanity
"You truly shocked me." Wade shook his head. "You are sharp; your deduction is impressive."
"The mastermind you speak of does indeed exist." Wade nodded. "But they will not appear. They are not in this world. They are the true believers of the gods, far more devout than I."
"Oh? That is truly a pity!" Yang Yi's gaze shifted from Wade's face to the altar, landing on a small boy beneath it. The boy was only three or four years old, his tiny body prostrate on the ground, his round skull buried in the black earth, his red T-shirt the color of fresh blood. She clenched her fists tightly, yet spoke in a flat tone: "After all, so many have died. If only you one person pay with your life, it would be a poor bargain..."
Wade's face grew cold, his lips pressed tightly together: "So, you never intended to join us. You only wanted to fish out the person behind me?"
"Do you think your unprovable words can persuade me to abandon the benefits of a civil servant and join an anti-human terrorist organization?" Yang Yi wore an expression of "are you joking?" "I really have to doubt your qualifications as a psychiatrist!"
Wade's brown pupils contracted. He sighed: "Foolish, short-sighted. You are cutting off humanity's future! Destroying the continuation of human civilization!"
"What a huge accusation!" Yang Yi walked toward Wade, arms spread. In an instant, the entire earth began to tremble beneath her feet, countless sand and stones trembling as if alive.
"Why waste effort? I am not here. You cannot attack me." Wade remained unmoved by Yang Yi's actions.
"How do you know without trying?"
Sand and stones flew through the air, the sky obscured by wind and dust. The Black Forest seemed to suffer an earthquake; countless rotten wood and decaying grass turned to ash under an invisible force. The earth beneath cracked instantly, and the entire world shook.
Daniel and the other four, faces panicked, could not even stand steady where they were, and all rushed wildly toward the crack's exit.
Wade, calm and composed, praised: "A power to be feared."
Yang Yi smiled. All the pent-up power condensed into a single tornado, carrying an unstoppable momentum, and lunged at Wade.
However, the tornado passed through Wade's body, leaving only a futile howl.
"I said, I am not in this world," Wade said.
Yang Yi was still smiling; the tornado did not stop.
Suddenly, Wade's pupils contracted, as if understanding something: "The altar!"
He quickly turned his body. He saw the tornado pass through his body and slowly dissipate, while another, far more powerful force condensed in the air into a giant blade, striking the altar down with a fierce blow.
"Stop!" Wade's eyes bulged with rage, and an invisible mental power stabbed toward Yang Yi.
As if pierced deeply in the brain by a sharp spike, Yang Yi suddenly bent over. The giant blade maintained by her telekinesis suddenly halted above the altar.
She clutched her head with both hands. When she raised her head again, her eyes were filled with bloodshot veins. Then, the invisible giant blade in the air struck the altar with even fiercer momentum.
Wade finally lost his usual elegance. He screamed: "No! You are committing blasphemy! You are cutting off humanity's future!"
The instant the giant blade collided with the altar, a milky-white light rose from the stone chair within the altar, enveloping the circular platform. The giant blade instantly vanished into nothingness.
Both Yang Yi and Wade paused for a moment.
Wade breathed a sigh of relief, realizing the altar had a protective formation. He looked at Yang Yi with a heavy gaze: "It seems we are enemies now."
As soon as he finished speaking, Wade slowly closed his eyes.
Suddenly, Yang Yi's mind became chaotic. It was as if her soul had detached from her body, standing beside herself to watch everything. She helplessly watched her own hands reach uncontrollably toward her neck, gripping her throat tightly.
Her throat bones made a clicking sound. She could not breathe. Her face gradually turned red, and lack of oxygen in her brain made her vision go dark.
She hurriedly rushed forward to stop herself, but passed through her own body. She wanted to stop Wade, but could not break free from the range of her body.
Think of a way quickly, or you will really die here!
The passage! Yes, the passage! If the masterminds need a passage to Earth to implement their plans, how could Wade be situated in the gap between two worlds and still exert influence on this world? This is something even the masterminds cannot do!
His figure just now might have been a projection, but when he wanted to exert power on this world, he must be in this world!
He is here!
Find him!
Ignore his projection; find his physical form!
Yang Yi gritted her teeth fiercely. Her telekinesis extended like flowing water, instantly spreading out with her at the center.
With her S-rank telekinesis coverage range, unless Wade's level was higher than hers, he would absolutely not escape her search!
At the moment the last trace of air was exhausted, Yang Yi's gaze sharpened: Found you!
At the edge of the altar, ripples exploded in the invisible air. A figure stumbled into view, and the projection before him vanished simultaneously.
Yang Yi felt her hands again. She released her neck. Air rushed into her nostrils, and she breathed in great gasps.
Wade looked at Yang Yi gloomily. A flash of green light appeared in his right palm, and he vanished once more.
Yang Yi filled the space around her with telekinesis. This way, it was like laying a minefield around her body; as long as there was any movement, it would not escape her counterattack.
She rubbed her throat bones, coughed a few times, ignored Wade, and condensed her telekinesis into a giant blade again, striking the altar.
The giant blade fell upon the altar. The milky-white light enveloping the altar trembled. Streaks of light scattered in all directions. As the light fell upon Yang Yi, she felt a sense of calm and serenity, even an inner joy.
She wanted to prostrate herself on the ground and kneel before the altar. There was the true spiritual homeland; there was the destination of the soul.
Daniel and the other four were about to escape the crack. When those light points fell upon them, they froze, slowly turned around, knelt before the altar, their faces intoxicated, and crawled toward the altar while prostrate.
Yang Yi's feet moved uncontrollably toward the altar.
No, do not go! Yang Yi screamed internally, yet another voice tempted her: Go, give up resistance. Leave this world, this world you loathe, this world that has brought you countless painful memories. You have loathed it for a long time, haven't you?
Otherwise, why did you seclude yourself in a small seaside town? Why did you never make friends? Why did you never contact your family? Why did you deliberately cut off ties with the past? Why are you always alone?
You loathe this world. You loathe interacting with people. You loathe your relatives. You hate them! You even loathe the self shaped by the past!
Her steps were heavy and sluggish. Her body seemed to be led by herself, yet also driven by an external force; even she could not tell the difference.
The altar drew closer, yet the tempting voice in her heart grew quieter. She felt a longing for a world that could bring her peace. Her attachment to this world grew less and less. Her steps toward the altar grew faster and faster.
'Have you decided!' The voice in her mind, which had not spoken for a long time, said, 'Decided to give up yourself? Then I will not be polite. I do not want this body to be sucked into a dried corpse...'
Yang Yi's head suddenly ached. That day's nightmare surfaced in her mind: In the flash of white lightning, a strange and alien smile was on her face: You will eventually become me. What are you afraid of?
That was her face, but it was not her.
Yang Yi's steps stopped.
She slowly raised her head. Her eyes were filled with red bloodshot veins. Her already black pupils were now as silent and deep as a black hole.
She clenched her fists tightly. Her chest heaved deeply. Her figure slowly floated in mid-air.
The air beside her moved without wind. Her invisible telekinesis was ferocious, drilling into the ground with unstoppable momentum. The entire earth trembled. Countless cracks, several meters deep and wide, shattered the earth into pieces.
The sky churned with wind and clouds. Branches, withered leaves, and sand and stones flew everywhere. The air was filled with a tense atmosphere.
The five of Daniel were seized by this power, snapping out of their intoxicated state, only to find the surroundings utterly devastated. Wind and sand, swirling with fallen leaves, rushed into their faces, stinging their eyes, mouths, and noses, filling their mouths with grit, yet they could not spare a moment to block it; the scene before them left them completely stunned.
Cracks on the ground, as if possessed of consciousness, encircled the circular altar. Like a massive earthquake, the earth trembled wildly, as though a ferocious giant beast were thrashing beneath the surface. The altar shook in response, its milky-white protective shield flickering uncertainly.
"God! She's going to pull the entire altar out from underground!" Helen shouted in disbelief.
"This is too insane. With such power... Ved said she is a chosen one of the gods..." Hamid murmured to himself.
The earth shook and the mountains trembled; the five could not stand firm and could only lie prone on the ground. They watched helplessly as that mysterious and terrifying altar began to sway, slowly being pulled out of the earth like a radish.
"No! You cannot do this! You will cut off humanity's only path to survival! You will become humanity's sinner!"
Ved's figure materialized, his expression filled with immense panic and anxiety. Ignoring that he was currently within Yang Yi's telekinetic range, disregarding his own safety, he stepped out to stop Yang Yi.
Only at this moment did Yang Yi truly believe that his earlier words about "saving humanity" were not hypocrisy, but came from the heart.
Yet Yang Yi showed no mercy; the instant Ved appeared, her telekinesis imprisoned him in place.
"Compared to your one-sided claims, I would rather hear the opinions of more people on Earth!" Yang Yi said calmly. "I will hand you over to the police. You can discuss your plans for saving humanity with them..."
As she spoke, the earth shook and the mountains trembled; the entire altar was pulled out of the ground by Yang Yi.
Yang Yi's face was expressionless. Her right hand lifted lightly, and the altar rose higher and higher. Everyone could see what Yang Yi intended to do: she was going to hurl the altar down from the sky and smash it to pieces!
Ved's eyes widened, his brown-black pupils constricted, veins bulging on his neck. He unleashed all his mental energy, forming a torrent of psychic force that surged toward Yang Yi.
Yang Yi's expression twisted in pain, her body swaying slightly, but she merely shook her head; the altar controlled by her right hand continued to rise.
"Playing the same trick twice loses its appeal," she said calmly. With a heavy swing of her right hand, she hurled the altar down from the sky.
In Ved's despairing gaze, under the anxious watch of Daniel and the other four, a tremendous "Boom—!" echoed. The altar was slammed violently onto the ground. The milky-white protective shield flickered once, then dissolved into scattered sparks and vanished. The ancient altar, stripped of its array's protection, shattered into a pile of fragments.
The rubble piled up, resembling a grave mound.
