Chapter 46: A Show of Force
The bright moon hung high, and the entire community was covered with people suppressed by telekinesis.
"Yang Yi, are all these people... controlled by that thing?" Zhang Zhang Ningning was shocked; she had been controlled by Amy just moments ago and hadn't had a chance to see this scene outside.
Surrounding Amy's house in a circle, a dark mass of people lay prostrate on the ground, silent as if paying homage to them.
"A new type of alien creature; its true form has already been destroyed by me. But these people have been infected; I need..."
Just as Yang Yi was preparing to extract the "source of infection" from them, a beam of high-beam headlights shot over, and a horn blared from the distance: "Everyone, drop your weapons and raise your hands! You are surrounded!"
The only people standing at the scene were Yang Yi and Zhang Zhang Ningning, and the high beams shone directly on them; without a doubt, the other party was shouting at them.
Looking at the sea of people prostrate on the ground due to her own power, Yang Yi sighed.
Zhang Zhang Ningning felt a bit awkward; Yang Yi had come to save her friend and had saved so many people, yet was being treated like a suspect.
"Uh..." Zhang Zhang Ningning gave a dry laugh: "The Ark police always arrive late, right!"
Yang Yi was an honest person; she raised her hands and cooperated with the Ark police in law enforcement.
The eerie scene in the community made the Ark police act as if facing a great enemy; they carefully passed through the gaps between the people lying everywhere, with four gun barrels pointed at Yang Yi and Zhang Zhang Ningning:
"What are you doing? Why are these people lying on the ground?"
Powerful flashlights waved back and forth in front of their faces, and the two women frowned.
"Mr. Police Officer, I am a member of the Mobile Unit of the International Awakened Alliance; I am here to resolve an alien creature incident. Please cooperate with me!" Yang Yi said coldly.
"Do you have identification?" a bearded police officer asked.
Yang Yi frowned; her ID was at the hotel, and she had forgotten to take it when she left.
Zhang Zhang Ningning shouted angrily: "Hey! Officer, look at who this is! This is Yang Yi, the God of Humanity! Doesn't this face prove it?"
"Damn it, you Asians all look the same; don't think you can scare people just by using Yang Yi's name..." a bald police officer said rudely.
While both sides were at a stalemate, several more high beams shone from the distance, and five black vans sped over.
A middle-aged man in a white coat showed his ID to the police: "I am Ben Carter, Deputy Minister of the National Alien Creature Research Department! Please cooperate with our work!"
The bald police officer shouted loudly: "The suspects are still ahead; we suspect this is a criminal incident, and no alien creatures have been found here so far!"
The two sides actually started arguing right in front of Yang Yi and Zhang Zhang Ningning.
It seems there are quite a few internal contradictions within the Ark country... Yang Yi and Zhang Zhang Ningning exchanged a glance, both speechless.
"Yang Yi! That is Yang Yi! The God of Humanity!" A young police officer observed Yang Yi carefully for a long time, then compared her with news photos, and finally confirmed her identity.
Everyone stopped arguing and turned their heads in unison to look at her.
Yang Yi felt she was about to develop "gaze phobia," but her expression remained very cold, maintaining a demeanor of calmness: "International Awakened Alliance Mobile Unit — Yang Yi, here to resolve an alien creature incident; everyone on the ground has been infected by an alien creature."
The four police officers shivered and quickly pointed their gun barrels at the people on the ground.
Ben Carter was a refined middle-aged man wearing rimless glasses.
Behind him were two people in black uniforms, with dense dark matter around them, obviously Awakened ones.
Ben Carter waved his ID in front of Yang Yi: "All alien creatures within the Ark country belong to us for research! Now, we will take over the situation here; thank you for your cooperation, Ms. Yang!"
This meant he wanted Yang Yi not to interfere.
Yang Yi sensed a familiar fluctuation from him; she glanced at the many more people in white coats behind him, narrowed her eyes, and in an instant, except for the four police officers, everyone on the spot prostrated themselves on the ground.
The two black-uniformed Awakened ones, even though they had prepared thoroughly, still fell to the ground when that power pressed down on them.
They were both Grade B, hired by the Alien Creature Research Institute to assist with work; they were always arrogant and, facing Yang Yi, were confident that even if they were not her match, the two of them together could stop her for a moment, or even catch her off guard and give this "God of Humanity" an unprecedented lesson.
Who would have thought they would be suppressed to the ground and unable to move after just one encounter.
"FXXK!" Jack cursed loudly, dark matter energy fluctuating violently around him, with a spark of electricity flickering at his fingertips.
Suddenly, the pressure on him increased drastically; his connection with the dark matter in the air was severed, as if an invisible barrier had isolated all the dark matter.
He was extremely shocked, but the pressure on his body was as heavy as a thousand pounds, and he couldn't even lift his head.
He rolled his eyes upward as much as he could and saw Yang Yi taking out her phone to make a call — damn it! She had suppressed so many people to the ground without even moving a step!
The two of them, Grade B Awakened ones, had killed or captured dozens of alien creatures so far and could instantly kill hundreds of ordinary people, but in front of her, they were not even as good as two ants.
He rolled his eyes to look at his companion, Leighton, whose ability was to control temperature, capable of raising the temperature within a fifteen-meter radius around him to over 100 degrees Celsius or dropping it below minus 60 degrees, but at this moment, he was also prostrate on the ground, rolling his eyes in grief and indignation at Yang Yi.
They were just like two clowns, and clowns that were being ignored.
The four police officers hurriedly raised their guns to point at Yang Yi, only to find that the gun barrels had somehow bent into a 90-degree angle.
Yang Yi waved her hand at them, signaling them not to panic: "Please remain calm; you have not been infected, and I do not want to press you to the ground as well."
Zhang Zhang Ningning looked at her with admiration, her eyes full of little stars.
After taking control of the entire situation, Yang Yi took out her phone and called Director Zhou:
"Director Zhou, have you arrived?"
"Arriving immediately!"
"Oh, then hurry up! I have also pressed a group of people from the Ark Alien Creature Research Department to the ground."
"What? Do not act rashly! Ten minutes, we will be there immediately!"
Only five minutes had passed when car headlights shone from the distance; Director Zhou, Feng Liancheng, Feng Chen Yushu, and Wei Chang'an had all arrived.
Additionally, three vehicles bearing the emblem of the Ark Anquan Bureau arrived, from which eight ordinary-looking people disembarked, led by Philip Aiden, a Special Investigator of the Ark Anquan Bureau.
Looking at the dark mass of people on the ground, Director Zhou walked over with a headache; Feng Liancheng secretly gave her a thumbs-up, Wei Chang'an looked at her with admiration, and Chen Chen Yushu frowned tightly.
"What is going on?" Before Philip Aiden could speak, Director Zhou asked proactively, "Yang Yi, this is not our country; even if you take action, you must exercise restraint!"
Director Zhou struck first to avoid being held accountable by the other party.
Philip Aiden sneered: "Truly worthy of being the only Grade S Awakened one; what great authority!"
Stung by this remark, Director Zhou became tough on her face as well: "As a member of the International Awakened Alliance Mobile Unit, Yang Yi naturally has the right to carry out alien creature handling missions in any country!"
Philip Aiden smiled, hiding sarcasm, with words within words: "Our Ark country is a place that values democracy and freedom; everyone here is equal. Ms. Yang using superpowers to press our ordinary citizens to the ground is suspected of bullying the weak with strength..."
Suddenly, he smiled kindly again: "I believe the 'God of Humanity' will give us a reasonable explanation; otherwise, who knows how tomorrow's news report will be written..."
Yang Yi seemed not to see him: "Director Zhou, I have discovered a new type of alien creature called the Soul-Devouring Demon; it is a species that survives by devouring and fusing with the souls of intelligent beings. Everyone in this entire community has been infected by it. If not handled in time, everyone in this community will become its host."
At her words, Philip Aiden and the seven people behind him all warily drew their guns.
Yang Yi acted as if she had not heard their movements: "As for the people of the Ark Country Institute for Abnormal Creatures, I suspect they were long ago infected by another Soul-Hosting Demon."
With a slight flick of her telekinetic power, in an instant, the crowd lying prone on the ground all raised their heads, their pitch-black eyes without whites silently staring at them.
A chorus of sharp intakes of breath.
Yang Yi, as if only just noticing Philip Aiden, exclaimed in surprise: "Could these be the legendary, renowned investigators of the Anquan Bureau of your country? Since this is a matter of your nation, we shall not meddle further; we leave this here for you all to handle!"
With that, she withdrew her telekinetic power.
