Chapter 7: Autobiography: I Became Famous
Today I finally met the male god I've been dreaming of!
After the male god returned, there was still a meeting in the afternoon; I hate meetings.
Fortunately, I didn't need to do anything; I could just zone out and read a novel for a while to pass this boring time.
Director Zhou and Deputy Director Zheng listened very attentively, as did Feng Liancheng and Chen Chen Yushu, who were also writing something in their notebooks from time to time.
By the time I finished updating the few web novels I was following, the people on stage were still blablablaing away.
To be honest, my stomach is already a bit hungry; I was so focused on watching the male god at noon that I didn't have time to eat. Right now, I just hope time passes quickly so I can get off work early and pay tribute to my Five Organs Temple.
They announced the Awakened ranks and actually rated me as Grade A?
How can I accept this? Isn't this too targeted at me? I've always been the type to follow the crowd, adhering to the principle of mediocrity and even doing nothing, just hoping others wouldn't notice me. Rating me as Grade A, and the only one of my kind, is like putting me on a spit to roast!
Hearing these people question my strength, I didn't get angry; I would have preferred them to rate my level lower.
Ideally, it would be Grade D; that way, I could enjoy the benefits of being an Awakened one without having to undertake dangerous and busy work. It would be perfect.
Yes, that's me; my dream is to loaf around, eat and drink, and be a salted fish.
Please don't think too highly of me, please don't assign me those tasks that sound dangerous and carry heavy responsibilities. Isn't being a salted fish good?! Sleep until I wake up naturally every day, then play games, read novels, eat, drink, and have fun to get through an empty day, scold myself a bit, and then fall asleep happily.
Isn't this kind of life simply too awesome?!
Moreover, I have a flaw I deeply detest: I am too responsible at work, too serious—you have to know I worked diligently in a private company for a full three years without ever making a single mistake; those ledgers and work notebooks are full records of my dedication.
This flaw of mine completely contradicts my ultimate dream. What is my dream? To be a slacker! To be a salted fish! To do nothing!
So I really worry they will think I am very powerful and then assign me overly important tasks. Since I am dedicated, if I fail to complete them, I will scold myself; if I complete them very well, they will assign me even more important work; this infinite cycle means I will either be trapped in self-reproach for failing to finish work, or face even busier and heavier workloads after finishing.
In the end, I would only be drifting further and further from my dream.
So annoying! Yesterday I was still excited about becoming a civil servant, thinking I had finally secured an iron rice bowl; on my first day as a civil servant, I could travel to Ark Country at public expense, and I almost woke up laughing last night while sleeping in the hotel!
Who knew that today I would discover this iron rice bowl seems a bit too heavy; my arms get sore holding it while eating...
When I discovered the entire venue was being hijacked, I didn't want to act rashly; after all, there were so many Awakened ones from various countries in the venue; why would I stand out when I was already attracting enough attention?
When I discovered the dark matter energy around me was dropping sharply, I was also a bit surprised.
What? Why didn't I notice earlier? Hey, do you walk around constantly on guard against bricks falling from the sky? We Awakened ones only actively perceive the surrounding energy when we use our abilities.
Only when that Veid started the countdown did I realize I had no choice but to act. How can these Awakened ones be so stupid? Don't they store energy in their bodies normally? Once an emergency arises—like the current situation—they are completely blind!
After I transferred everyone to a safe place outside the building, looking at the complex gazes of the people around me, a thought suddenly occurred to me: No wonder those web novel protagonists always love to show off their powers in front of others; pretending to be awesome is so satisfying! Look, how cool I am right now!
This greatly satisfied my vanity.
Suddenly I thought, since I have displayed such great power and appeared on the stage at the United Nations, being dispatched to the United Nations to represent Xia Country for work is a foregone conclusion; won't they then assign me many difficult, dangerous, and hair-pulling tasks in the future?
This is not what I want!
I was thinking about whether to pretend to faint, showing that my strength was exhausted and I urgently needed a long rest—ideally, after returning to the country, sending me to a scenic sanatorium for ten or twenty years of recuperation to honor my huge contributions to the United Nations and to saving political leaders from various countries.
Just as I was dreaming sweet dreams, Veid came to me. He actually recruited me on a global live broadcast; how can this be? Isn't this testing my loyalty to my motherland? Director Zhou is still watching me right here!
At this very moment, I absolutely cannot drop the ball!
I straightened my body and solemnly declared my correct attitude and firm stance of loyalty to the country and the people.
I stole a glance at the Director, and only when I saw the smile at the corner of his mouth did I relax; let's just say, at critical moments, one's stance must be absolutely clear.
By the time the armed forces of Ark Country arrived late—honestly, this is not strange at all; it would be surprising if they ever arrived on time—Ark Country arranged for the frightened political leaders of various countries to enter a heavily protected hotel, and I could finally eat something to comfort my poor stomach.
Hiding in the corner of the restaurant, I ate four pieces of incredibly tender top-grade fillet steak in a row before slowing down my eating pace. There is a scheduled United Nations dinner tonight; such a big thing happened, yet no one notified us to cancel it. If it proceeds as usual, I need to save some room—what if there is something even tastier at the dinner?
"Are you that hungry?" Feng Liancheng slowly scooped a portion of ice cream and asked me.
I saw he wasn't hungry at all; I didn't know why he came to the buffet restaurant with me so early.
"I didn't even have time to eat at noon. You aren't hungry, so why follow me?"
Feng Liancheng looked around the restaurant and said jokingly, "I was afraid another country would poach you, so I'm supervising you!"
"Rest assured about this; my favorite is still Xia Country cuisine. Foreign food is fine for one or two meals, but eating too much makes my stomach uncomfortable," I said lightly while taking a sip of cream mushroom soup.
Back in my hotel room, I only discovered while scrolling through my phone that I had already become a world-famous celebrity.
Everywhere online were news reports about the United Nations building explosion, where political leaders from various countries were almost wiped out in one go by Awakened terrorists, and how all countries had acknowledged the existence of Awakened ones, establishing official Awakened departments one after another to prepare for increasingly severe invasions by alien creatures in the future.
The United Nations official website and the official websites of various countries published the ranks of Awakened ones and alien creatures.
All of this represents the arrival of a new era.
Moreover, my name and that huge Grade A appeared at the very top, truly glaring!
Many news reports included pictures; no one knew who took them amidst such chaos at the time. In the picture, the United Nations building was crumbling amidst red flames and billowing black smoke, while the main subject of the photo—me—was floating in the air, protecting political leaders from various countries as they landed on the ground with one hand, and blocking debris from the explosion shockwave with the other.
To be honest, from an observer's perspective, this photo was actually taken very well; the photographer can be said to have captured the essence of contrast: the photo's protagonist with a poker face, that calm gaze, that casual posture, looking as natural as casually brewing a pot of tea at home.
As the background, the United Nations building engulfed in Xiong Xiong flames and billowing black smoke, and the political leaders from various countries in the corner looking wretched and panicked, were simply the perfect foil and the finishing touch.
Enough said; if I say too much, you'll think I'm being narcissistic, but actually, I'm really a bit panicked inside.
The news detailed everything that happened at the United Nations today, even mentioning the joint annihilation of the big crab by Xia Country and Ark Country, and even compared it to my driving away the sea monster at the seaside yesterday; isn't this nonsense? That big crab compared to yesterday's little octopus is like comparing our country's warships to Vietnam's monkey fishing boats; how can they be compared?
This is putting me on a spit to roast! This is completely praising me to death!
The United Nations dinner was held as scheduled tonight; I wore a work suit—a white shirt, a suit skirt, and a small blazer; basically, I tried to be low-key, hoping to blend into the crowd so no one would notice me.
But that is impossible; no matter how hard a diamond tries to hide itself, it still constantly radiates brilliance in the darkness. Ah, what a happy trouble; I tried to be low-key, yet I am still so conspicuous.
People speaking various languages kept coming up to thank me and exchange completely unnecessary pleasantries; the translators dispatched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were dutiful, and for the sake of propriety, I also tried to maintain a cool but polite smile until the corners of my mouth were cramping.
Fortunately, Director Zhou and Deputy Director Zheng rescued me; no matter how busy they were, one of them always stayed by my side to help me block those overly enthusiastic pleasantries.
Finally, the event ended, and I went back to the hotel to rest, feeling mentally exhausted.
When I scrolled through the male god's personal blog at night, I found he had updated: "Thank you very much to my fans; it has always been them who cared for me, supported me, accompanied me through the valleys, and protected me through dangers. Actually, originally it was very hard for me to imagine that there are so many strangers I have never met all over the world who, having only seen my performance in movies, have generated kindness and affection towards me; this love and support is so simple, so pure, and so moving. In the future, I will work even harder and not let down my fans' support and love for me. 【Heart】【Kiss】"
What? Male god, you wouldn't really be that simple, would you? You wouldn't really think that all those fans are here just for your performance, would you?
Alright, I repent; I am not as simple and pure as you say; besides your performance, I also admire your handsome face and perfect... ahem... body!
Below were several consecutive photos, all of Chris taking group photos with fans at the filming site of "Spy Sea Action" this afternoon; the wreckage of the car explosion in the background was particularly eye-catching.
Aaaaaah, he not only took group photos with fans but actually hugged them too; why wasn't I at the scene? Why did I have to leave early?
He has always believed that actors and fans should maintain a certain distance; only then will the audience immerse themselves in the plays the actors perform. Once that distance is broken, the sense of mystery vanishes, and the actor's character's influence on the audience will be greatly diminished. But today, he actually gave fans such a perk—I feel more heartbroken than if I had missed out on a hundred million!
I searched again and found the video of him comforting fans after the explosion today. Oh my god, he had just experienced an explosion, yet instead of going to the hospital for a checkup immediately, he comforted the frightened fans first.
Waaah, he is too good. I have decided to be his fan for the rest of my life.
