Chapter 85: Fleeing in Panic

~7 min read 1,293 words

The work notification on her phone reminded her of something: her current job involved many top-secret contents, and Chris was an Arkian; if they were together in the future, would she still have to guard against him? —even though he would never check any of her messages, the mere fact that she could not confess her own secrets to her lover would create a barrier between them... Moreover, the secrets on her body went far beyond this...

Why fall in love? She suddenly thought coldly, you are not qualified to fall in love, not qualified to have an intimate relationship with anyone. You have over four thousand lives on your conscience, and you haven't fully solved your hunger problem yet; your announced future, the other two existences within your body, your tenuous connection with the alien evil god—all of this is still waiting for you to resolve. How can you be qualified to fall in love?

Was this a form of escape? Throwing herself completely into the passion, fervor, yet tranquility and warmth that Chris provided, seeking a shred of comfort amidst the impending crisis?

Her heart, originally eager to explain, instantly cooled.

"Then—do you mind if I give him a call?" Chris suppressed his anger, even smiling as he said, "I don't need to use your phone; give me his number so I can declare my sovereignty as a boyfriend. Is that okay?"

As a man himself, he knew men's thoughts all too well; if there were no lingering feelings for an ex-lover, one would avoid them at all costs, so why actively add contact information? Moreover, given Yang Yi's current status, without using some tactics, how could one easily approach her?

He knew this proposal was terrible, and his own actions were too hasty, but the anger in his heart left him no time to worry about much else.

"That doesn't seem right..." Yang Yi frowned.

She felt guilty towards Chen Chen Huanyue; it was she who had left without saying goodbye, it was she who had disregarded his feelings and dumped him for the sake of her own pride; if she now allowed her current boyfriend to show off in front of him... even an onlooker would feel it was too much.

She looked up and saw that even with extreme restraint, Chris's eyes could not hide his anger, along with some barely perceptible grievance. Her heart instantly softened, and a damn sweetness rose in her chest instead: Oh my god, he's jealous!

This realization rushed into her brain, stirring up an uncontrollable surge of passion; her heart swelled as if about to explode, and a current of electricity flowed through her entire body.

She suddenly became overjoyed, forcibly opening his arms that held her, and like a bird eager to fly, she threw herself into his embrace, hugging him tightly. Only when his breathing was no longer heavy and coarse and suppressed did she lift her head, unable to hold back her laughter as she pointed to her own heart:

"Chris, it's only you, no one else."

Chris looked down at her, a hint of distrust visible in his azure eyes.

Yang Yi's expression was even somewhat surprised: "You don't need to worry about those irrelevant people at all; when you have you, how can you possibly think of anyone else?"

She wrapped her arms around his neck and pulled his head down a bit so she could kiss the corner of his eye, "When facing you, how can anyone else's face possibly float into my mind?"

She then shifted her kiss to the corner of his lips and asked again, "Doesn't possessing you mean possessing the entire world?"

Finally, she kissed him for the first time on her own initiative, deeply and lingeringly. After a long while, she gazed at him with flushed cheeks and dazed eyes, whispering, "I am like an insect completely entangled in your spider web; I am your prey now, can't you see?"

Chris's heart beat faster and faster; even when he jumped from the world's tallest building while filming "Spy Sea Action 2," it hadn't beaten this fast.

He scooped her up, placing her on the island counter, his right hand supporting the back of her head, kissing her deeply, affectionately, passionately, uncontrollably, and without restraint; if he could, he would even want to press her into his own body so he could carry her everywhere, never be separated from her again, never feel anxious about gains and losses, never feel unsettled, and never worry about any man coveting her.

He longed to convey his explosive love to her through deep kisses; he knew he was about to be destroyed by her, destroyed by a passion he had never experienced before.

Yang Yi was kissed dizzy by him; she sat on the island counter while Chris stood between her legs, holding her tightly and kissing her. Her body went soft, and she leaned back weakly; if not for Chris's strong arms supporting her, she would have slid right down.

Just as her entire brain was in utter chaos, she vaguely sensed a change in Chris's body; she suddenly woke up, and her body instantly stiffened.

Chris sensed this change, slowly releasing her, though desire still lingered in his deep blue eyes.

Yang Yi hurriedly jumped down from the island counter, almost tripping; after standing up, she was so nervous she didn't know where to put her hands.

"I... I... I have work tomorrow! Yes, work! Very busy! Especially busy, I'll have no time soon... Goodbye, contact by phone!" After finishing a stream of nonsense she didn't even realize she was saying, she ignored Chris's expression, shot out of the open window with a swish, and fled in panic.

At some point, the sky had turned dark; a few stars twinkled in the night sky, and there was no moon tonight.

That figure suddenly vanished into the night sky; a void seemed to form in Chris's heart as well, just as empty as the night sky missing the moon.

For a long while, his heart, which had been beating violently, slowly calmed down; one moment he couldn't help but laugh thinking of her fleeing in panic, the next he felt satisfied recalling her words "I am your prey," and a moment later he thought of that phone call, thinking of the meaning behind those three unfamiliar Chinese characters—damn, she still hadn't explained how to handle that ex-boyfriend...

Thinking of this, he began to be full of doubts again; perhaps she said all that just to stop him from continuing to investigate...

At this moment, he actually doubted his ability to perceive emotions for the first time...

Yang Yi rushed straight up into the night sky, flying higher and higher until she broke through into the stratosphere; only then did she cover her burning red face, wishing she could scream twice to vent.

Before coming here, wasn't your mind full of images worthy of pixelation? Weren't you going to make love with the sky as your blanket and the earth as your bed and handle him? Weren't you preparing to unwrap this sapphire and play with it properly?

How is it that when it came to actual action, a normal bodily reaction scared you away?

So embarrassing!

She recalled the love words she had blurted out involuntarily, and her face burned even hotter; she had never realized that when she spoke of love, she was so... cheesy... Just thinking about it made her shiver with goosebumps.

She covered her face with both hands and dove straight into the clouds; on the way back, she wove through layers of mist and fog, as if afraid to meet anyone or have them see her in this state.
