Chapter 161: The Altar of Darkness

~7 min read 1,297 words

"Hehehe... The Chaotic Dao Body is indeed interesting, but... your little girlfriend... should be waiting for you on the altar right now, shouldn't she?"

The masked man's voice was full of mockery and provocation, as if he were sneering at Tang Yun's helplessness.

Hearing the words "Leng Yue," Tang Yun's expression turned icy in an instant, and killing intent surged in his eyes.

He violently crushed the communicator fragment in his hand; the shards sliced his palm, and fresh blood dripped onto the ground, yet he didn't pay it the slightest attention.

He slowly stood up, the Vermillion Bird Feather in his hand transforming into a long sword burning with raging flames, its tip pointing straight into the distance.

"Dare to touch her..."

Tang Yun's voice was as cold as ice, as if it had come from the abyss of hell.

"I will let you know... what true burning is."

The viewers in the live stream room felt the intense killing intent from his cold tone, and the barrage exploded instantly.

"Holy crap! Cloud God is angry!"

"Goddess Leng Yue is in danger!"

"Cloud God, hurry and save her!"

Tang Yun no longer paid attention to the barrage; his figure flashed, turning into a streak of fire, and vanished into the night.

Leaving behind only a group of dumbfounded tribe warriors and sparks dancing across the sky.

He had to save Leng Yue, no matter the cost.

Shortly after Tang Yun left, a figure in a black cloak appeared at the entrance of the Four Symbols Shan Gu.

Beneath the cloak, a pair of cold red eyes were revealed; it was the mysterious woman who had appeared in the live stream earlier.

She looked in the direction Tang Yun had left, a strange smile curling the corners of her mouth. "Chaotic Dao Body... interesting, truly more and more interesting..."

She raised her right hand and gave a light wave, and the invisible barrier blocking Leng Yue vanished instantly.

"Go on, little girl," she whispered, "go and witness this good show..."

Tang Yun's speed was astonishing, almost turning into a blur as he wove through the mountain forest.

The Vermillion Bird Divine Fire burned around him, illuminating the path ahead and dispelling the darkness of the night.

He had only one thought in his mind: find Leng Yue and ensure her safety.

The masked man's tone in the communicator had raised an ominous premonition in his heart.

Altar... dark energy... these words combined made him smell a hint of a conspiracy.

He had to reach the altar before they made their move.

The wind whistled, and tree shadows swayed. Tang Yun's heart was anxious and restless; he had never craved power as much as he did now.

If he could be a little stronger, he could reach Leng Yue faster and protect her better.

Suddenly, he felt a powerful wave of dark energy coming from ahead. This energy was cold and evil, making him feel a wave of nausea.

"That's it!" Tang Yun's heart tightened, his speed increased once more, and he flew toward the direction the energy wave was coming from.

Before long, he arrived at a valley. In the center of the valley stood an ancient altar, and on the altar, a familiar figure was tied to a stone pillar—it was Leng Yue.

Around the altar stood a group of people in black, holding strange-looking weapons that radiated heart-palpitating dark energy.

The leader was tall and wore a ferocious black mask on his face.

"You finally came, Tang Yun."

The masked man's voice was hoarse and low, carrying a hint of mockery. "I thought you wouldn't dare to come."

Tang Yun's gaze swept coldly over the crowd and finally landed on Leng Yue.

At this moment, Leng Yue's face was pale and her lips were chapped; she had clearly suffered quite a bit.

Seeing Tang Yun appear, a flash of surprise crossed Leng Yue's eyes, but she quickly regained her calm, just watching him quietly without speaking.

"Let her go." Tang Yun's voice was as cold as a blade, devoid of any emotion.

Hearing this, the masked man laughed up at the sky: "Let her go? On what grounds should I let her go? Who do you think you are?"

"I'll say it again: let her go." Tang Yun's voice was even colder, and the Vermillion Bird Divine Sword in his hand let out a crisp cry, as if responding to his anger.

"Kid, don't be so arrogant!"

A man in black stepped out, pointing at Tang Yun and cursing, "What do you think you are? How dare you talk to our boss like that?"

Tang Yun didn't even look at him, just saying coldly, "If you don't want to die, get lost."

"You're courting death!" The man in black roared, raised his weapon, and charged toward Tang Yun.

A cold light flashed in Tang Yun's eyes, and the Vermillion Bird Divine Sword swung out a sharp sword qi, instantly splitting the man in black in two.

Fresh blood sprayed, staining the stone slabs of the altar red.

The other men in black were stunned at the sight; they hadn't expected Tang Yun to be so formidable, killing a companion with a single strike.

"Attack together, kill him!" A flash of wariness crossed the masked man's eyes, but he quickly regained his composure and gave the order.

The men in black drew their weapons one after another and swarmed toward Tang Yun.

Tang Yun sneered, the Vermillion Bird Divine Sword dancing in his hand to create streaks of firelight, neutralizing the attacks of the men in black one by one.

He was like a fierce tiger charging into a flock of sheep, invincible.

However, the men in black were numerous and coordinated well; although Tang Yun was powerful, he gradually began to feel the strain.

Just then, a sudden change occurred.

Leng Yue on the altar suddenly let out a scream, her body beginning to tremble violently.

A powerful wave of dark energy erupted from within her, blasting the surrounding men in black away.

"What's going on?" Tang Yun felt a shock in his heart and hurriedly looked at Leng Yue.

He saw that Leng Yue's eyes had turned blood-red, and her body was radiating suffocating dark energy, as if she had become another person.

"Hehehe..." Leng Yue let out an eerie laugh, her voice hoarse and strange, "Tang Yun, you came too late after all..."

Leng Yue's blood-red eyes stared fixedly at Tang Yun, a strange arc curling her lips.

She slowly raised her hand, and a pitch-black dagger appeared out of thin air in her hand, flashing with a cold, eerie light.

The tip of the dagger pressed against her fair neck, and a bead of bright red blood seeped out, appearing particularly glaring in the moonlight.

"Tang Yun,"

Leng Yue's voice was no longer her usual crisp tone, but a whisper from hell, hoarse and cold.

"Surrender, or I will die before your eyes."

The surrounding men in black struggled to crawl up from the ground, looking at this scene in terror.

They didn't understand what had happened, why the always gentle and kind Leng Yue had become like this.

Tang Yun looked at Leng Yue, his brows locked tight. He knew Leng Yue was being controlled, but who was controlling her? And what method were they using?

He was anxious, but he didn't dare to act rashly.

The dagger in Leng Yue's hand was too close to her throat; one slight mistake and she would perish.

The masked man recovered from his shock and let out a triumphant laugh.

"Hahaha, Tang Yun, you didn't expect this, did you? I knew you would come, so I specially prepared this big gift for you!"
