Chapter 99: The childhood nightmare is finally over

~7 min read 1,296 words

The woman let out a scream, fell to the ground, and curled up in pain.

Tang Yun and Tang Tian ignored the woman's wailing and turned to leave the dilapidated building.

Their childhood nightmare was finally over.

Walking out of the building, Tang Yun took a deep breath, feeling as if a heavy stone in his heart had finally fallen.

"Let's go," Tang Tian patted him on the shoulder. "Let's go back."

Tang Yun nodded, and the two walked in the direction of the Gene Tree.

The setting sun stretched their shadows long.

Their backs appeared exceptionally straight, and also exceptionally lonely.

Tang Yun and Tang Tian walked side by side, silent all the way. The violent release just now did not bring them the pleasure they had expected; instead, it felt like a heavy lead weight pressing on their hearts, unable to be shaken off.

In Tang Yun's ears, the woman's shrill cries and the crisp sound of breaking bones seemed to still be echoing.

He clenched his fists tightly, his knuckles turning white, and his palms were full of cold sweat. He felt a wave of nausea, his stomach churning, yet he could not vomit anything out.

Tang Tian noticed Tang Yun's abnormality, turned his head to look at him, and stopped himself from speaking.

He knew that Tang Yun's heart was far more fragile than it appeared on the surface.

The shadow of his childhood was like a poisonous thorn, deeply embedded in his heart; even if pulled out, it would leave a wound that could never heal.

Tang Tian finally spoke, his voice somewhat hoarse, "Are you alright?"

Tang Yun shook his head and did not speak. He did not know how to answer.

Say he was fine? How could he be fine? Those painful memories were like movie scenes, replaying in his mind over and over, terrifyingly clear.

Say he was not fine? What could he do? Should he live in the shadows of the past forever?

"It's all in the past," Tang Tian patted Tang Yun's shoulder gently. "It's all in the past..."

Tang Yun took a deep breath, trying to calm his surging emotions.

He knew Tang Tian was right; everything was in the past. Those who had hurt them had already received the punishment they deserved.

What they needed to do now was to look forward, strive to become stronger, protect themselves, and protect those around them.

"Yeah," Tang Yun finally squeezed out a word. "It's all in the past."

Returning to the Gene Tree, Lin Xiyue and the Holy Son came up to meet them.

"You're back," Lin Xiyue asked with concern. "Are you alright?"

Tang Yun managed a smile: "I'm fine, just a small matter."

The Holy Son looked at Tang Yun's slightly pale face, his brows furrowed slightly, but he did not say anything.

He knew that something must have happened to Tang Yun, but he did not want to ask too much. Everyone had their own secrets and their own pasts they did not want to mention.

"Rest for a while first," the Holy Son said. "Dinner is already prepared."

Tang Yun nodded and followed Lin Xiyue and the Holy Son into the Gene Tree.

Dinner was sumptuous, but Tang Yun had no appetite. He absentmindedly poked at the food in his bowl, his mind in chaos.

Lin Xiyue noticed Tang Yun's abnormality and asked with concern: "Tang Yun, what's wrong with you? Are you feeling unwell anywhere?"

Tang Yun shook his head: "No, just a bit tired."

"Then get some rest early," Lin Xiyue said. "There are still many things to do tomorrow."

Tang Yun nodded, got up, and left the dining table.

He returned to his room and lay on the bed, but he could not fall asleep no matter what.

He closed his eyes, and his mind was filled with what happened today. The woman's cries, the sound of breaking bones, and the anger, pain, and confusion surging deep within his heart...

Suddenly, a series of urgent knocks on the door interrupted his thoughts.

"Tang Yun! Something happened!" It was the Holy Son's voice.

Tang Yun sat up abruptly, a sense of foreboding rising in his heart. He hurried out of bed and opened the door.

"What's wrong?"

"The dark forces... they are here!" the Holy Son said urgently. "And... they are coming with great momentum!"

Tang Yun's heart shook, and a chill shot from the soles of his feet to the top of his head. He immediately realized that the real battle had only just begun.

"How many of them are there?" Tang Yun asked in a low voice.

The Holy Son's expression was grave: "The exact number is unclear, but judging from the energy fluctuations of the Gene Tree, the enemies coming this time are far more powerful than any before."

Tang Yun did not ask again; he knew now was not the time to waste. He grabbed the Chaos Blade from the bedside, turned to the Holy Son, and said, "Let's go!"

The two quickly rushed out of the room and arrived at the central control room of the Gene Tree.

Lin Xiyue and several other core members were already waiting there, everyone's face filled with tension and worry.

On the control room screen, the energy fluctuations around the Gene Tree were displayed.

The originally calm energy field was now churning violently like boiling water, and red alarm signals were flashing non-stop.

"Tang Yun, look!" Lin Xiyue pointed to a red dot on the screen, her voice trembling. "What is that?"

Tang Yun looked in the direction Lin Xiyue was pointing, and his pupils shrank. It was a huge black energy mass, approaching the Gene Tree at an astonishing speed.

"It's the leader of the dark forces!" the Holy Son exclaimed. "He actually came in person!"

The leader of the dark forces, a legendary figure, possessed the power to destroy the world.

No one had ever seen his true face, and no one knew his true strength.

"Everyone, prepare for battle!" Tang Yun's voice echoed in the control room, carrying an unquestionable majesty.

As soon as he finished speaking, the Gene Tree shook violently.

The dark energy mass had reached the periphery of the Gene Tree, and the powerful energy shockwave made the entire Gene Tree teeter on the brink of collapse.

Tang Yun and the others rushed out of the Gene Tree to meet the enemy.

The leader of the dark forces finally revealed his true face. It was a giant over three meters tall, shrouded in black mist, with a pair of blood-red eyes radiating a chilling light.

"Tang Yun, you finally appeared." The giant's voice was low and hoarse, like a demon from hell.

"I have been waiting for you." Tang Yun replied coldly.

"Hmph, overestimating your capabilities!" The giant snorted coldly, and his huge fist, carrying destructive power, smashed toward Tang Yun.

Tang Yun did not dodge or evade, and the Chaos Blade slashed toward the giant fist.

"Boom!"

With a loud noise, the shockwave generated by the energy collision destroyed everything around them.

Tang Yun was shaken back several steps, and a trace of blood spilled from the corner of his mouth.

"With just this much strength, you dare to challenge me?" The giant laughed wildly. "How ridiculous!"

Tang Yun wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his eyes showing no fear: "Who will have the last laugh remains to be seen!"

The battle was on the verge of breaking out, and Tang Yun and the others engaged in a life-and-death struggle with the dark forces.

However, the leader of the dark forces was too powerful, and Tang Yun and the others gradually fell into a disadvantage. ===== CHAPTER 100 =====
