Chapter 501 - 402: The Many Twist and Turns of Instructor Huang’s Fate
Fang Huai’s loot from map grinding amazed Cao Yi and Ye Jiahong for a while.
The two of them crowded around him, bombarding him with questions.
Fang Huai naturally shared what he could and kept silent on what he couldn’t, vaguely explaining the ideology of the training class.
After listening, Cao Yi appeared to be deep in thought.
Ye Jiahong, on the other hand, had a unique way of thinking, not caring much about the ideas of a training class thousands of miles away, but rather focusing on Fang Huai’s jacket.
Initially thinking it was a security guard uniform, upon learning that it was Olympic security apparel, he found it better looking the more he saw it.
After studying it for a while, he suddenly said:
"Hey, cuz, this jacket of yours... can we get someone to make one for each of the guys outside?"
What, you wanna start an Olympics branch here?
The corners of Fang Huai’s mouth twitched, just as he was about to retort.
Then the Captain sitting quietly to the side spoke up.
"It has a Firefighting patch sewn on; to make this kind of clothing, you need to contact the Logistics Department."
At these words, Ye Jiahong actually let out a sigh.
This guy, actually sighing?
Fang Huai had seen this guy throw tantrums, laugh out loud in the front yard cafeteria, but this was the first time he saw him sigh with a look of helplessness on his face.
Ye Jiahong paid no mind to him, and without joking anymore, changed the topic:
"Now that you’re back, how do you plan to instruct the training?"
Fang Huai laughed: "There are three cadres here, discuss it among yourselves. I’m just a squad leader, I’ll follow the orders."
Fang Huai was eager to bring the conversation back to training, firstly to assert his leadership role and secondly to see what attitude Huang Zhongjiu had.
He of course knew the situation with the deputy instructor.
During the Earthquake Exercise, Old Zhang kept him on tenterhooks for two days, but ultimately he had to tell him.
A slight disability, his left index finger had been severed during a rescue and later reattached, so it was slightly inflexible. It was relatively easy for him to get promoted earlier on. Despite the inflexible finger, his physical condition was top-notch among the officers.
His management skills were genuinely good, attentive to every detail, but he had a bit of a temper. In two different Squadrons, he was reported twice and was known as a Firefighting Hero. Later he could only be transferred to the whole corps’ Logistics Department to work as a staff member. He was recommended by Minister of Logistics.
It might not have been a recommendation, but rather, due to his temper issues, leadership found an opportunity to kick him back to the frontline.
An Old Soldier.
Fang Huai glanced at him and saw that he indeed looked rather old. This was the first time he had seen such a decorated ten-year military service medal on the chest of a company level officer.
And on his rank insignia, one row with two stars in the middle, flanked on one side by the ten-year military service medal and on the other side by another three years.
Thirteen years of service, a Captain of a Regular Company, his career had been quite miserable. In three more years, his rank insignia wouldn’t even fit anymore.
It was time for him to transfer to a civilian role.
Ye Jiahong was at the same rank. It was his eighth year, and with the Squadron undergoing reform, he was the Captain, destined for a promotion. It’s impossible for a secretary at the battalion level to sit at the same rank as a deputy secretary of a company.
But as for this guy, whether he would get promoted or not was a different story. Soldier progress depends on his deeds, but it’s likely his education wasn’t top-notch. Even though the Squadron upgraded and cadres had a good chance of being promoted along with it, it would be normal to block his advance on the basis of his education.
Fang Huai wondered if his uncle brought him closer to set an example, to show the consequences of soldiers being promoted without sufficient education, urging him to study harder.
Or perhaps it was out of a fondness for talent, giving him a channel for promotion.
No need to ask—anyway, if he did ask, Elder Deng would definitely reply with "Knowing is enough," followed by another lecture on the importance of studying.
Also, it was because of uncle’s simple introduction that he immediately thought of Huang Zhongjiu when he saw Squad Leader Hao’s text message.
At that moment, Huang Zhongjiu also made a light remark, revealing his stance.
"I’m the deputy instructor, not in charge of training. I only handle Political Education and Squadron discipline. You should discuss training with the Captain."
Fang Huai was taken aback.
Well, dear sir.
With one sentence, had he stripped Cao Yi of his authority too?
Fang Huai looked at Cao Yi and couldn’t help but counter:
"...Instructor Cao is also an instructor, so does Instructor Cao not handle training either?"
Huang Zhongjiu, with his wheat-colored skin and lean face, raised a slight smile:
"Instructor Cao is the secretary, I don’t manage him."
Cao Yi just smiled and said nothing.
When Huang Zhongjiu arrived, Cao Yi had given him a hard time. Observing the situation these past days, Huang hadn’t shown any intention of stepping over him. As for handling the soldiers, other Squadrons weren’t particularly strict either, so it wouldn’t be fair to write someone off over such a matter.
The key point was that this man was sent by Captain Zhang; if he were too domineering, he would inevitably leave an impression of a local tyrant in the eyes of Leadership.
Fang Huai scratched his head, looked around, and his expression, now devoid of earlier humility, became serious:
"It’s a critical time for the Squadron’s transformation; cadres should really work together. How can our grassroots Troops stick strictly to job descriptions when working?"
Hearing this, Huang Zhongjiu’s expression became serious too.
"Then what are job responsibilities for?"
Fang Huai laughed.
"Going by job responsibilities, what are you here for, Instructor Huang?
According to the ’Order’, the deputy political instructor is subordinate to both the Company Leader and the political instructor, assisting the political instructor. When the political instructor is temporarily absent from the post, the deputy political instructor takes over, as designated by the superior or political instructor.
The deputy instructor doesn’t have specific duties; he awaits instruction from the political instructor.
Assisting the instructor, but with Instructor Cao’s workaholic spirit, handling everything and never taking leave, Instructor Huang, what’s there left for you to manage?"
