Chapter 444: Changing the Medicine
Song Shiwei staggered slightly, and just as she was about to fall flat on her face, Nanny Wu quickly set down the water glass in her hand and came over to support her.
"Madam, what's wrong?"
Song Shiwei's eyes were wide, her gaze gradually turning panicked. She looked down at the phone, the call still not hung up, and found it hard to breathe.
Nanny Wu noticed and helped her catch her breath.
Coming to her senses, Song Shiwei picked up the phone and, with trembling fingers, ended the call.
Nanny Wu asked with concern, "Madam, what did the Young Master say?"
Song Shiwei muttered frantically to herself, "He said it, he said it..."
Gu Sen had told their son about what happened back then.
Why?
Why do this!
Seeing that the madam was showing signs of another fit, Nanny Wu quickly helped her to the sofa, handed her some water, and hurriedly poured out a Medicine Pill: "Madam, it's time to take your medicine. After you take it, you can rest well."
Song Shiwei quickly stuffed the pill into her mouth, swallowing it dry without water, and muttered again, "Sleep, sleep..."
After taking two steps, she turned back and asked, "Where's Yin Xue? Where did she go?"
During this time, with her husband and son both away, and having forcibly sent away her nagging parents, the huge house was cold and empty, with only her left alone. She had personally gone to bring Yin Xue back to stay.
But right now, she didn't see her.
Nanny Wu said, "Madam, have you forgotten? The young lady went to see the old master off."
The old master had just come by and mentioned to Song Shiwei that Gu Sen was planning to expand into the A City market. Thinking that Gu Sen had been shielding Song Shiwei from the wind and rain all these years, he would surely listen to her advice and give up the idea of leaving the Gu family.
Although she didn't know how much truth there was in Gu Sen's words, "It's fine if the Gu family doesn't want me," the old master couldn't afford to gamble.
The majority of the Gu clan's travel company's equity wasn't really in his hands so much as in the hands of the Gu family's head. If the head wasn't him, the equity wouldn't be with him.
In truth, the old master couldn't control many things in the Gu clan. If Gu Sen wanted to rebel, it would be easy.
He didn't rebel when he was young and ambitious, but now that one foot was in the grave, he was stirring things up!
For a moment, the old master didn't know whether his insistence on bringing Jiang Lai back to the Gu family was right or wrong, whether it was truly for the good of the whole family, or whether the benefits outweighed the drawbacks.
Jiang Lai had only come back once, and old grievances were dug up, indirectly influencing many people's choices and directions.
The development of the situation was becoming harder and harder to control.
The old master looked at Gu Yinxue, who had seen him out. Gu Yinxue seemed to have something she wanted to say to him.
"Why so long?" After hearing what the old master had said, Song Shiwei's heart was in turmoil. As soon as the old master left, she immediately called her son. On the phone, she tried to make her tone sound as good as possible, without any intention of interrogation.
Her husband was not only sleeping in a separate room from her but hadn't come back since going to A City, and neither had her son.
Song Shiwei was scared deep down.
After the call, she was even more scared.
So much time had passed, and her daughter still hadn't returned. The house had servants and the lights were on, but Song Shiwei still felt cold and dark, as if something was staring at her, as if she could hear the rustling sound of footsteps on snow and the crying of an infant.
It was as if the nightmare was about to become reality.
Song Shiwei's face was pale, and she stared blankly into space.
It wasn't until she heard Gu Yinxue's voice that she seemed to snap out of it. Reaching out to touch her living, warm daughter in front of her, tears suddenly streamed down uncontrollably.
She just kept tremblingly touching her face.
Gu Yinxue looked at her mother's expression and felt that she was looking at someone else through her.
That someone else could only be Jiang Lai, who had been abandoned by her mother back then.
Tsk.
Gu Yinxue couldn't help but click her tongue inwardly, but on the surface, she calmly helped her mother upstairs to rest.
Only after accompanying her mother to sleep did she come back down. Nanny Wu immediately stepped forward and said, "The madam took her medicine. I don't know if it's because she's been taking it too frequently lately and developed a resistance, but the medicine doesn't seem to be working on her anymore. Should I take the medicine to the doctor tomorrow and ask?"
Gu Yinxue stared at the medicine bottle in Nanny Wu's hand for a moment, then reached out and took it: "I'll go, Nanny Wu. Keep an eye on things at home."
Nanny Wu nodded.
Gu Yinxue gently twisted the medicine bottle, poured out a pill, and, where no one could see, tossed it into her own mouth, chewing it expressionlessly.
Why look for a doctor? She could just change the medicine herself.
Her father had given up politics for business for her mother's sake. Wouldn't he, instead of driving her away against her wishes, feel heartache over her recurring illness and take care of her as carefully as he did over twenty years ago?
Jiang Lai opened her eyes before dawn.
She had gone to bed early last night, so she woke up early.
She was nestled in a warm embrace again, and the layout and furnishings of the room were a bit unfamiliar.
Oh.
She had moved in with Ke Zhongyu yesterday.
This was Tingyue Bay.
Jiang Lai didn't move. She just looked at the window. Last night, she had only hastily drawn a single layer of white blackout curtains, so she could see the sky outside.
The sky was gradually getting light.
Jiang Lai finally turned around, touched Ke Zhongyu's chin with her hand, and said softly, "Get up."
Her voice was very low. She didn't really intend to wake Ke Zhongyu, but she couldn't help doing it, couldn't help touching him.
Ke Zhongyu pulled her closer, slowly opening his eyes. His voice, just woken up, carried a hint of hoarseness: "It's the weekend."
Meaning there was no need to go to work, and therefore no need to get up.
Jiang Lai hummed in agreement, but still couldn't help reaching out to touch his chin, touch his face.
Ke Zhongyu closed his eyes, a smile on his lips, and caught her fingers, bringing them to his lips for a kiss.
"Does it still hurt?"
Jiang Lai shook her head.
It doesn't hurt.
Ke Zhongyu was very gentle last night.
Ke Zhongyu reached out and rubbed her waist: "How about this?"
"A little." Jiang Lai spoke frankly; Ke Zhongyu eased his pressure elsewhere, but the hand pinching her waist refused to loosen, as if letting go would make her run away.
Ke Zhongyu rubbed again, then took out his phone to check today's sunrise time.
You can see the sunrise in ten minutes.
Jiang Lai's pupils trembled slightly: "Climb the mountain?"
Ke Zhongyu chuckled: "No need, I already summited three times last night."
Jiang Lai: "……"
He grabbed Jiang Lai's hand and pressed the white switch at the head of the bed; the sheer curtains slowly opened, revealing a full‑wall floor‑to‑ceiling window filled with the river view.
The two of them snuggled in bed to watch the sunrise.
There was no sky‑filling rosy dawn, but this feeling was already enough to make Jiang Lai's whole person become softer.
When Ke Zhongyu pinched Jiang Lai's chin to kiss her, she reached out and covered his mouth: "I haven't brushed my teeth."
The next second Ke Zhongyu got up, holding Jiang Lai as he went to brush his teeth.
After brushing their teeth, they still didn't kiss; Ke Zhongyu went to the gym.
Jiang Lai sat on the living‑room sofa, picked up her phone, and saw a message from Fu Youqing.
Regarding Gu Zhiyan's act of beating Shen Xun and turning himself in to the police, she felt somewhat surprised.
For a moment she actually didn't know how to reply.
What is Gu Zhiyan doing?
Can't figure it out.
Jiang Lai suddenly felt a bit annoyed.
