Chapter 448: From Today On, Get Out of My House
Song Shiwei: "Gu Sen, how could you say that about Yin Xue? Yin Xue is our daughter."
Gu Sen corrected: "She was brought back by me; she's not our biological daughter. If she knew her place, she could still be the Gu family's adopted daughter, but she's too greedy, Song Shiwei. Her heart is too ruthless."
Whenever he thought about how Gu Yinxue had secretly used others' hands to eliminate Jiang Lai, how she had schemed against and exploited the older brother who had raised and cared for her, a chill ran down his spine—the same chill he'd felt upon learning that the old man and his own younger brother had conspired with outsiders to scheme against him.
Song Shiwei's eyes reddened as she frowned: "What are you talking about?"
Gu Sen had no intention of hiding from Song Shiwei the things Gu Yinxue had done behind their backs, but just as the words were about to leave his mouth, a voice suddenly came from behind him: "Dad, Mom."
Gu Sen turned around, Song Shiwei looked up, and both of them looked toward the doorway.
Gu Yinxue stood there quietly—no one knew how long she had been standing.
"Dad, you're back." Gu Yinxue stepped inside, calmly pulled out a tissue to wipe her mother's tear stains, then turned to Gu Sen and said, "Mom's health hasn't been good lately. Let Mom go rest first, okay? Whatever you need to say, you can tell me alone. Don't upset Mom anymore."
Song Shiwei held her daughter's hand, grievance showing in her eyes.
Gu Yinxue patted her mother's hand reassuringly and said to Gu Sen: "Dad, why don't you wait for me in the Shufang first? I'll help Mom upstairs to rest."
With that, she helped her mother upstairs.
Gu Sen watched Gu Yinxue's composed demeanor and her attentiveness to her adoptive mother at every turn, and grew even more suspicious.
He no longer trusted Gu Yinxue.
At such a young age, she was already skilled at disguise.
Gu Yinxue's sudden interruption had broken off the conversation between Gu Sen and Song Shiwei. Gu Sen had always been a dignified man; he could never do something as ugly as the three of them confronting each other in a messy scene.
So he walked into the Shufang and waited for Gu Yinxue.
After helping her mother to lie down in her room, Gu Yinxue comforted her: "Mom, don't be angry at Dad either. Dad just wants his own biological daughter back by his side, that's all."
Song Shiwei had never dared to mention her own biological daughter, never dared to speak Jiang Lai's name, never dared to go see this person.
She tried her best to ignore it, but everyone around her kept bringing it up.
It was simply like a giant nightmare engulfing her.
"Yin Xue, will you always stay by Mom's side?" Song Shiwei grabbed Gu Yinxue's hand, as if clutching at a lifeline. "Your brother has become disobedient—he wants to go into business. Your father's temper has gotten worse and worse too. He seems, seems to despise me."
Gu Yinxue held Song Shiwei's cold hands, gently rubbing them, and comforted her: "No, Brother and Dad are just confused for the moment. Maybe they've just been led astray by someone."
Led astray?
Song Shiwei's heart sank.
It was because of Jiang Lai.
Zhi Yan was doing it for Jiang Lai, this younger sister; Gu Sen was doing it for Jiang Lai, his biological daughter.
Song Shiwei covered her tear-streaked face—she had known all along that girl was a jinx.
Everyone said the second child was easier to deliver, but when she gave birth to her second child, she nearly died from the pain. After all that struggle, the baby wasn't even a boy.
How wonderful it would have been if it were a son!
……
Shufang.
Gu Sen stood by the window looking out at the courtyard. Many flowers in the Huapu had bloomed. He clearly remembered Zhi Yan taking Yin Xue on a proper little picnic in the Huapu, setting up a swing chair right in the middle of it.
Shiwei sat in the middle of the swing chair, Zhi Yan on her left, Yin Xue on her right. He stood behind, gently pushing the swing as the three of them rocked backward, leaning against the backrest, laughing.
Times had changed.
The things remained, but the people were no longer the same.
"Dad." Gu Yinxue walked in and stood beside Gu Sen, following his gaze toward the Huapu. Suddenly feeling a wave of sadness, she couldn't help reddening around the eyes. "Will I never be able to call you Dad again?"
For a moment, Gu Sen couldn't tell how much of Gu Yinxue's red eyes and choked voice was genuine and how much was fake.
"When you did those things, you should have known this day would come."
Gu Yinxue's hanging hands tightened. She knew that after her brother's phone call, her father would certainly know some things too, but she wasn't sure how much he knew, so she could only say ambiguously: "I didn't mean to, Dad."
"Anonymously reporting Ji Lao, instigating Lin Shutong to drive a car into Jiang Lai—you didn't mean to?" Gu Sen gritted his teeth, listing every single incident for her.
"Conspiring with Lin Shutong to deceive the older brother who raised and cared for you since you were little—you didn't mean to?"
"Getting a paternity test done ahead of time—you didn't mean to?"
Gu Yinxue was shaken by Gu Sen's three rapid questions. Her toes shifted slightly outward, showing a tendency to flee.
How could he have found out so quickly?
Gu Sen caught the flash of panic in her eyes and continued: "Even if Jiang Lai came back, we never intended to drive you away. But I didn't expect you to be so scheming—finding out before we did that Jiang Lai was my biological daughter, and then starting to target her in secret."
"My will has already been changed. You won't get a single cent of the fortune I've earned. I won't pay the rent for your Gongzuoshi anymore either. The annual fixed investment for your Gongzuoshi ends here. I will announce to the media that you are no longer Gu Sen's adopted daughter, and from now on you may no longer use the Gu family name to do anything."
"From today on, get out of my house."
"This is the last mercy I will show you."
Gu Sen finished speaking and walked out, leaving Gu Yinxue alone, collapsing on the floor in pain as tears streamed down.
"Dad! My heart hurts!" She tried to gain attention through the one thing the whole family cared about most.
Gu Sen's footsteps stopped.
Gu Yinxue's eyes lit up—she knew her father had the kindest heart.
"When I found out my daughter was almost hit by a car, my heart hurt more than yours." Gu Sen only turned his head slightly, watching her from the corner of his eye. "The medicine is right on you. If you want to live, take it. If you don't want to live, I'll go make your funeral arrangements. I still have that much responsibility."
Gu Yinxue instantly slumped to the floor, watching helplessly as her father left coldly and without a trace of emotion.
Sounds came from outside as well.
"Go to Erlou and pack up all of Gu Yinxue's things. Send them to her Gongzuoshi."
The nannies looked at each other in dismay.
What was going on?
The gentleman goes out for a trip, comes back arguing with his wife, and now wants to drive away the second young lady.
They were just hired help; they couldn't involve themselves in their employer's family affairs. They just needed to follow the employer's orders. Everyone immediately got to work.
Gu Yinxue took out medicine and swallowed it; after gradually recovering, she rose to her feet, and her gaze toward the doorway suddenly turned dark and sinister.
She walked out of the Shufang and became a helpless little pitiful thing again, eyes red as she watched her belongings get packed up and taken downstairs.
Just after everything was fully packed, the old master of the Gu family suddenly arrived.
The old master looked at the bags of all sizes and questioned Gu Sen, "What are you doing?"
Gu Sen didn't even raise his head: "Making her leave my home."
The old master stopped him: "She's grown up and doesn't need you to support her—why drive her out? Yin Xue has always been a member of our Gu family; she was before, and she will be in the future."
Gu Yinxue, eyes lowered, curved her lips slightly—she knew the Gu family's secret hidden for twenty-eight years; how could the Gu family dare drive her out, haha…
