Chapter 468: Your sorrow and pain should be shared with me

~8 min read 1,424 words

Leaving the Gu residence and returning to where they lived, Jiang Lai curiously asked Ke Zhongyu: "How did you manage to arrive so timely?"

Ke Zhongyu's eyes flickered slightly: "Telepathy, do you believe in it?"

Jiang Lai gave a light chuckle, uttering an "en," but her hand unconsciously stroked the brass engraved key hanging at her chest.

Ke Zhongyu also noticed her movement, said nothing, and in the next instant shifted his gaze.

Outside the window was the sound of pattering rain.

It was somewhat lighter than the daytime rain.

Ke Zhongyu noticed Jiang Lai's slightly damp hair, reached out to touch it, and said: "Go take a hot shower first, then come out to eat."

"I'll go first; later you also remember to take a hot shower." Jiang Lai went to the bedroom bathroom.

Ke Zhongyu looked at Chi Ce sitting on the sofa: "I remember you used to make cola ginger tea."

Chi Ce realized and stood up: "I'll go make it."

"You stand by and watch." Ke Zhongyu headed toward the kitchen.

Having just finished hot water, Ke Zhongying asked: "What about me?"

Ke Zhongyu: "Wait to drink."

Ke Zhongying felt the remark sounded like she was being scolded for just sitting around waiting to drink, but seeing her brother's expression, it didn't seem that way; it truly looked like he was also making cola ginger tea for her.

Ke Zhongying wanted to laugh, but what had happened today at the Gu family ancestral hall remained vivid in her mind, dampening her mood somewhat; she thus took out her phone and typed a sticky, rambling question to her mother: "If I'm not obedient, will you also abandon me?"

Furious, Ms. Nian scolded Song Shiwei as a harbinger of harm in front of Ke Yue, then, after regaining her composure, hastily called her daughter back.

The sudden phone call startled Ke Zhongying; she knew her mother must be upset, so after answering she hurriedly said: "Mom, I was just joking."

"You can't joke like that." Ms. Nian's voice carried a hint of sternness.

Ke Zhongying obediently replied with an "oh."

Immediately after, Ms. Nian's sigh came through the phone: "You and your brother shouldn't say hurtful things; I and your father are also getting older, behave, dear,"

"Mmm-hmm!" Ke Zhongying nodded vigorously.

Ms. Nian: "How is Jiang Lai?"

Ke Zhongying: "On the surface she seems fine, though I can't tell what's in her heart; it's fine, her brother is here."

Ms. Nian: "And your brother?"

Ke Zhongying: "In the kitchen."

Ms. Nian: "In that case, later quietly tell your brother that you don't need to go to your grandparents' tonight; you can go early tomorrow."

Ke Zhongying frowned slightly: "Can we not go?"

Ms. Nian: "No way, you're already in B City—there's no reason not to visit the elders, and besides, you've made such a big fuss this time."

Ke Zhongying worried: "Will they also drag you into it?"

Ms. Nian chuckled, and from the other end of the line came her husband's voice: "Mom's fine, I'm here."

Ke Zhongying then relaxed, chatted a bit more with her parents, hung up, and headed to the kitchen; the pot was bubbling with steam, and her brother was already ladling out cola ginger tea.

"Brother, Mom said you just need to go see the grandparents early tomorrow."

As soon as the words fell, Chi Ce's eyes shifted slightly, but he said nothing.

Ke Zhongyu gave a faint response, pointing at one bowl: "Drink this."

"Okay." Ke Zhongying first pulled out her phone, took a photo, and sent it to the group chat, telling her dad and mom it was made by her brother, then added that although it lacked substance, the thought counted.

Ke Zhongyu instantly wanted to tell her not to drink it.

Ke Zhongying had already cheerfully carried it out, stirring the spoon repeatedly, hoping to cool it down, her gaze occasionally drifting toward the master bedroom.

Ke Zhongyu also looked over.

Jiang Lai's hot shower had gone on too long.

He gestured to Ke Zhongying and Chi Ce that dinner was ready and they could start eating, then he went into the master bedroom.

The water sounds in the bathroom splashed loudly.

Ke Zhongyu disliked Jiang Lai staying too long in the bathroom; the incident last year when the hotel flooded left him with lingering fear—locking himself in the bathroom and soaking in cold water was indeed the optimal solution, but if he hadn't noticed that day, would Jiang Lai have drowned herself in the bathtub?

Thump thump.

He raised his hand and knocked on the door.

Two or three seconds later the water stopped, and from inside came Jiang Lai's voice: "Ke Zhongyu."

She knew it was him outside.

She only called out his name.

But that was enough for him to understand.

Ke Zhongyu raised his hand to turn the lock, his voice low: "Whether you agree or not, I'm coming in; if you're angry, punish me."

He shoved the door open, stepped inside, and then closed it.

Ke Zhongyu pulled off a towel to wrap around Jiang Lai while simultaneously drawing her into his embrace; amidst the swirling steam, he instantly saw her eyes, reddened perhaps from the water.

Jiang Lai remained quietly still in his arms.

Through the towel, through his shirt.

His hands tightened and tightened until Jiang Lai slowly lifted her arms to hug his waist, whereupon he secretly let out a breath of relief.

"It's fine." Ke Zhongyu gently rubbed her back, soothingly saying, "It's fine."

Jiang Lai merely called his name: "Ke Zhongyu."

"Mm."

"Ke Zhongyu."

"Mm."

Jiang Lai rubbed her face against his chest, then quietly asked: "I've always called you by your full name."

Ke Zhongyu: "You will never call me wrong; you only call me."

Jiang Lai couldn't help laughing a little; that bit of gloom in her heart was almost gone.

"That's what you think."

"No matter what you call me, I still think this way." Ke Zhongyu is the one who will never change.

Jiang Lai: "You don't have a nickname?"

Ke Zhongyu: "No."

Jiang Lai: "Then you have one now, A Yu."

Ke Zhongyu's Adam's apple rolled, and the hand holding Jiang Lai's waist tightened a bit more.

Jiang Lai thought calling him Ke Zhongyu sounded nice, and calling him A Yu also sounded nice; they were two different feelings, the latter being softer and, of course, more intimate.

Ke Zhongyu pinched Jiang Lai's chin, gazing at her wet, reddening eyes, and lowered his head to kiss her eyes.

Jiang Lai slowly closed her eyes, her eyelashes trembling slightly.

The man's warm lips touched her eyes, her nose tip, the corners of her mouth, and finally he held her tightly, an orchid-like scent spraying onto her ears.

"I hope you hold nothing back from me; your sorrow, your pain, should be part of what I bear."

Jiang Lai thought it would be a vigorous workout, but instead she got a line of sweet talk.

She really couldn't help but like Ke Zhongyu a lot.

"You've already resolved it." Jiang Lai's voice gradually softened, her eyes slightly crinkling, "You felt it yourself, and you resolved it yourself."

"What about your mouth?" Ke Zhongyu this time pinched her lips, forcing her to look up at him, somewhat angry, "You won't suffocate."

Jiang Lai shook her head, reached out to grab Ke Zhongyu's palm: "Not holding back, not holding back—I'm just a bit sad, just a little sad; now it's fine, it's fine as long as you're here."

Ke Zhongyu released her mouth: "Well, at least you'll speak now."

Jiang Lai nodded and nodded: "I'll speak, I'll speak."

Seeing her truly relax, Ke Zhongyu's tone softened and became cute; the brow he had deliberately furrowed relaxed as well: "A Lai, I'll be here for everything."

"Mm-hmm." Jiang Lai hugged him and called him A Yu.

Ke Zhongyu restrained himself: "I'm tired after a day; let's go out to eat."

Jiang Lai echoed: "Eat, eat."

Ke Zhongyu couldn't hold back a light laugh, ruffling her head: "Outside, I'm waiting for you."

"Mm-hmm, wait for me." Jiang Lai said, "You have to wait for me, A Yu."

Ke Zhongyu: "Wait."

"Wait a lifetime."

While he waited outside the bathroom, his phone vibrated; upon opening it, there was a photo.

Gu Zhiyan stood at the hospital ward door, inside half a small figure was visible.

The siblings who once loved each other but now have turned into enemies are standing face to face.
