Chapter 55: He Drank Too Much

~4 min read 726 words

Hengshan Gongguan.

Fu Sijue inadvertently saw Lu Xiwán's ID photo tossed on the table, and then couldn't shift his gaze.

His impression of Xi Wan had always been professional and aloof, keeping distance from him; he seemed to rarely see her smile, but this photo was different.

The woman stared at the camera, her face lit with a brilliant smile, and light in her eyes.

She looked exactly like her.

This reminded him of a photo from many years ago.

On the day Lu Xiwán and he took their wedding photos, Lu Xiwán smiled at the camera bright and pure.

When Lu Xiwán returned and saw Fu Sijue staring at her photo absentmindedly, she hurriedly and nervously lifted the photo.

"Sorry, I must have dropped it while I was packing yesterday; maybe Auntie left it here…"

Fu Sijue's eyes reflected her silhouette, and Lu Xiwán clenched her hand nervously.

After a moment, the man spoke lightly:

"You really do resemble my wife."

Fu Sijue had said this before, but this time it seemed especially meaningful.

"Mr. Fu is just joking," Lu Xiwán said expressionlessly.

—After Lu Xiwán went upstairs, Fu Sijue left Hengshan Gongguan directly.

He didn't even need to make a phone call to know where Xie Zian was.

"Why are you here in a place like this? This isn't your style."

Xie Zian looked at Fu Sijue with surprise, feeling out of place with the surrounding atmosphere.

He's not the type to go to bars and drown himself in drunken revelry.

"I came looking for you; I have something to tell you."

With a glance from Xie Zian, the women surrounding him all dispersed.

"Help me find someone to investigate Xi Wan thoroughly; it's inconvenient for me to do it personally."

Fu Sijue said gravely.

All factions were watching him; if he sent someone to investigate, it might cause unnecessary trouble for Xi Wan.

"Are you suspecting that Xi Wan is Lu Xiwán?" Xie Zian disagreed, "Xi Wan is a Psychologist, Wanwan used to be a fashion designer; how could she be Wanwan?"

Fu Sijue's eyes darkened, he called a server to pour himself a glass of whiskey: "Xi Wan… she vaguely reveals a lot of information, details that only I and Wanwan know."

Xie Zian was startled: "What?"

"She said she met Wanwan in California, and the two hit it off and talked a lot." At that point, Fu Sijue's tone faltered, "She said Wanwan had already died in California."

"What?!" Xie Zian's voice rose a pitch.

Fu Sijue took a sip, his expression indifferent as he stared into the void: "Some things are so coincidentally strange that they become unsettling."

……

Inside Hengshan Gongguan it was pitch‑black; Fu Sijue had drunk a little too much with Xie Zian, his steps heavy as he went upstairs, following the route he remembered to the bedroom.

Lu Xiwán jolted awake from the bed, someone standing at the doorway, backlit so the face was indistinct.

Before she could react, a tall figure reeking of strong alcohol surged forward, pinning Lu Xiwán onto the bed.

"Wanwan." A hoarse, alcohol‑tinged voice fell on Lu Xiwán's face.

This scene overlapped with one from many years ago.

"I am Xi Wan, let go of me!" Lu Xiwán, pressed beneath, struggled fiercely.

But the gap in strength was too great; Lu Xiwán could not move Fu Sijue an inch.

Fu Sijue naturally embraced Lu Xiwán's body, even rubbing his hand against the nape of her neck.

"Wanwan, I miss you."

Whether sincere or feigned, she could not tell.

Lu Xiwán felt a cold emptiness inside, thinking Fu Sijue's words were truly mocking.

But.

In Lu Xiwán's breath was the man's scent, inexplicably calming her.

How ridiculous, this man who had wounded her deeply, yet his scent made her feel at peace.

Seeing the man make no further move, she gently closed her eyes, ultimately submitting and letting him hold her as she fell asleep.

When she woke the next morning, Fu Sijue was still holding her; half of her body was numb.

Lu Xiwán lifted her gaze to the man's handsome face; his deep eyes opened leisurely, colliding directly with Lu Xiwán's vision.

Lu Xiwán's expression did not change: "Mr. Fu, can you let me go now?"

"I'm sorry." Fu Sijue released her and sat up, "I got drunk last night."
