Chapter 26: Targeting
Cang Yinmoon saw the newcomer and calmly bowed his hands.
“Greetings, Captain Ji. I’ve just returned from a case and happened to be meeting friends here.”
Hearing this, Ji Feiyun glanced at Li Muxian, his eyes narrowing slightly.
“I’m used to entering through windows—didn’t disturb you, did I?”
Cang Yinmoon slowly shook his head and pointed to the wooden wall beside him.
“Captain Ji, you’ve come for Guan Shanxue—she’s right next door.”
Ji Feiyun sighed softly, lowering his voice.
“This young lady always causes trouble whenever she comes to Shangyang City, and she always picks on me. If it weren’t for the Chief Hunter’s protection, I wouldn’t touch her with a ten-foot pole.”
Cang Yinmoon smiled.
“You don’t understand women’s hearts, Captain Ji. She’s deliberately targeting you—I suspect she’s taken a fancy to you.”
Ji Feiyun chuckled and shook his head.
“She’s not interested in me—she’s after someone else.”
At that moment, the wooden wall next door was suddenly sliced open by a sharp blast of ice qi, which continued straight toward the three men in the room.
Simultaneously came Guan Shanxue’s icy voice:
“Ji Feiyun, since you’re here, come over here at once.”
“No.”
Ji Feiyun snapped a warning and instantly stepped forward, thrusting both palms outward; his roaring true qi formed a gale that blocked before Cang Yinmoon.
The ice qi clashed with the gale and dissipated, but the residual shockwave sent nearby tables and chairs flying, shattering them midair.
“Guan Shanxue, you’ve gone too far.”
Ji Feiyun spoke sternly, retracting his jade-like glowing palms with controlled true qi.
Yet, when his peripheral vision fell on Li Muxian behind him, his eyes flickered almost imperceptibly.
Li Muxian’s position was clearly different from before—he hadn’t even noticed when the man moved?
At that moment, Guan Shanxue, clad in snow-white robes, lightly tapped the ground and flashed across the broken wall into Ji Feiyun’s room.
“Since when have your Six Shan Gate people become the Fifth Imperial Prince’s lapdogs?”
Guan Shanxue’s fair, beautiful face twisted with mockery as she glared coldly at Ji Feiyun.
Hearing this, Ji Feiyun quietly withdrew his glance from Li Muxian and frowned.
“Shanxue, what do you mean by that?”
Guan Shanxue snorted, her gaze shifting to the three men—Zhou Chuan and others—frozen in ice qi in the adjacent room.
“Are they yours?”
“Of course.”
Ji Feiyun nodded, glancing at the three.
“But why did you attack them?”
“If one of them accidentally annoyed you, I can apologize on their behalf.”
Guan Shanxue sneered.
“They’ve been secretly tailing this playboy all along, trying to catch him in a scandal to blackmail the Minister of Revenue into switching allegiance from the Seventh Imperial Prince to the Fifth.”
“I heard them say it myself—and they’ve already acted on it. What excuse do you have now?”
Ji Feiyun’s expression darkened; he scanned the surroundings and lowered his voice.
“Guan Shanxue, don’t speak recklessly in a place like this—otherwise even the Chief Hunter won’t be able to save you.”
“Do you think I’m lying?”
Guan Shanxue’s eyes flashed with anger; she moved to strike, but Ji Feiyun swiftly pressed his scabbard against her wrist, whispering:
“No matter what you heard, this isn’t the place to speak—and I know you’ve always admired that fake prince, but times have changed.”
“If you don’t want to drag the Chief Hunter into prison, I advise you to stop now!”
With that, Ji Feiyun slowly withdrew his scabbard.
Guan Shanxue opened her lips, then clenched her brows tightly, falling silent; her porcelain face flushed with fury and helplessness.
Seeing she was quiet, Ji Feiyun visibly relaxed. He turned to Cang Yinmoon.
“Captain Cang, please keep today’s matter confidential.”
Cang Yinmoon’s gaze grew solemn; he gave a slight nod.
“Captain Ji, have you forgotten my position? As a fellow member of the Six Shan Gate, I know exactly what to do.”
Hearing this, Ji Feiyun nodded slightly, then turned to look at Li Muxian; Cang Yinmoon immediately added:
“Captain Ji, rest assured—this matter concerns the Fifth Imperial Prince and the Six Shan Gate. My friend here knows the stakes; he’ll take this secret to his grave.”
Ji Feiyun paused, studying Li Muxian for a moment.
“You don’t seem to be from the capital. Better to follow Captain Cang’s lead—it won’t hurt.”
With that, Ji Feiyun turned toward the adjacent room where Zhou Chuan and the others sat, palm turning, true qi surging.
He struck with a palm like a spring breeze melting snow.
The ice qi encasing the three vanished visibly, and soon they returned to normal.
Zhou Chuan and the others exhaled in relief, stretching their stiff limbs to greet Ji Feiyun, but he raised a hand to stop them.
At that moment, a constable rushed in urgently.
“Left Vice Minister Gao Changrui and his party are heading this way—they’ll be downstairs any moment.”
Hearing this, Ji Feiyun glanced at Zhang He huddled in the corner, waved his hand, and signaled Zhou Chuan and the other constables to leave.
He then returned to the room where Li Muxian and the others sat.
“Would you like to come back with me to the Six Shan Gate headquarters?” Ji Feiyun asked.
Seeing Guan Shanxue’s cold, silent face, he shook his head again.
“Don’t cause trouble—otherwise even the Chief Hunter can’t protect you.”
As he spoke, Ji Feiyun walked toward the window, but before leaping out, he turned back to Cang Yinmoon and said with deep implication:
“While you’ve been away, Captain Fu has been missing you terribly—come back soon and see him.”
With that, Ji Feiyun vanished through the window.
…
At that moment, Li Muxian turned to Cang Yinmoon, curiously asking:
“Who’s Captain Fu? Your father? Or your mother?”
Cang Yinmoon glanced at him.
“My fiancé.”
Li Muxian raised an eyebrow; Guan Shanxue’s gaze swept over Li Muxian’s handsome face, and she suddenly sneered.
“You’ve got a fiancé and still go chasing good-looking boys? Cang Yinmoon, you’re shameless.”
Hearing this, Cang Yinmoon’s eyes flashed with cold killing intent; his hand shot toward his waist.
But halfway, he stopped, coldly saying:
“Too lowly to bother with.”
Then he called to Li Muxian beside him:
“Let’s go.”
But at that instant, Guan Shanxue’s fingertip surged with ice qi—she suddenly pointed at Cang Yinmoon.
Yet, to Guan Shanxue’s shock, before her finger even reached out, her own true qi was instantly sealed; her entire body froze, unable to move.
“This… when did Cang Yinmoon become this powerful?”
