After drinking her porridge, Qin Yan looked at her phone and saw a message from Ding Xin, confirming the time and place for their meeting.

Just as she was about to discuss meeting Ding Xin with Lu Qianchuan, her phone rang; the caller ID showed it was her aunt.

She stared at the phone hesitantly, her brows knitting together.

The phone kept ringing, sounding somewhat jarring in the quiet living room.

Lu Qianchuan leaned over to see the caller ID and wanted to hang up the call.

He did not want her to be triggered again.

Qin Yan, however, stopped his hand and said, "Some things have to be faced sooner or later; avoidance is useless."

She said this to him, but it was also a reminder to herself.

She pressed answer and heard Qin Yu ask, "Xiao Yan, your parents are arguing about a divorce; are you aware of this?"

"I'm not sure, what's wrong?"

"Nothing, I just wanted to remind you that you are an adult now and shouldn't get involved in their affairs," Qin Yu explained with a smile. "However, you could consider what I said last time about coming to stay with me."

"I already refused you, Aunt, do you remember?" Qin Yan said with a cold tone.

Qin Yu sensed that her attitude was off. "Xiao Yan, did someone upset you?"

"Mm, some unpleasant things did happen, and I'm in a bad mood because my illness is acting up," Qin Yan said sarcastically.

"Why is it acting up again? Is your health any better now? Qin Yan, I am truly worried about you. It would be better if you were by my side."

Listening to her worried words, Qin Yan let out a laugh. "Fine, I'll come see you in a couple of days."

"Really? That's wonderful! Xiao Yan, if you come, I'll arrange a job for you and find you a new boyfriend!"

Listening to her cheerful voice, Qin Yan felt it was ironic.

After hanging up, she was quiet for a moment before looking at Lu Qianchuan, her voice clear as she said, "Ding Xin said she's bringing her boyfriend to meet us tomorrow night. Prepare the contract; let's try to win over Yu Ming."

"You're going abroad? Are you really planning to live there?"

Qin Yan was taken aback; she had never said anything of the sort.

When she was in high school, her aunt had wanted to take her abroad, and she had indeed considered it at the time because her aunt treated her well and said she could provide a better educational environment overseas. However, her grandparents were against it and kept reminding her that once she grew up, she should have her own life and not disturb her aunt.

Now that she knew a few more things, she wasn't a masochist, so why would she want to go to her side?

Traveling abroad was fine, but living there, given her physical condition, would likely shorten her life even further.

Thinking about it calmly now, Qin Yu spoke of wanting to treat her well, but had never once considered her physical condition.

She was just saying a few nice words to coax her; she had been naive enough to believe it when she was a child, but now that she was grown, she should know better.

"Mm, I want to live there. How about we get a divorce?"

"If you go to live there, I can go see you too. What does that have to do with divorce?"

Lu Qianchuan sneered and took out his phone. "I don't mind making our relationship public right now. You are my wife; whoever wants to introduce you to a man is a homewrecker!"

Qin Yan laughed in frustration and raised her hands in surrender. "I'm teasing you. I couldn't get used to foreign food anyway."

However, she couldn't help but ask, "Lu Qianchuan, what do you like about me? I'll change it now."

"I like that you're alive."

Upon arriving at the restaurant Ding Xin had booked, Qin Yan and Lu Qianchuan went upstairs to the private room and saw Ding Xin and her boyfriend, Yu Ming.

Although Yu Ming was not old, he was a PhD who had been engaged in scientific research for many years since his undergraduate studies. He had always been cultivated and trusted by the father and son of the Gu Family, becoming the head of the Research Department at just over thirty years old.

Because of this, he was very obedient to Gu He'an and secretly resisted the intervention of the Lu Corporation, taking opportunities to suppress it.

When Yu Ming saw Lu Qianchuan, he was also surprised; clearly, he had not expected to see him here.

"Mr. Lu, are you trying to bribe me?"

"It's a partnership. I won't interfere with the Scientific Research Projects you lead, but I need you to cooperate with the Lu Corporation to bring research results from the lab to finished products. I am a businessman; as long as it's profitable, that's all that matters," Lu Qianchuan stated his position clearly.

He was sincere about the partnership, but giving him these shares certainly came with conditions.

Yet these conditions did not harm the interests of the Gu Corporation; on the contrary, they promoted deeper cooperation between the two companies.

Yu Ming put down the document, feeling conflicted.

The Research Department had always been managed personally by Gu He'an. Even though he was no longer the president, he held shares in the Gu Corporation, and many previous projects had been funded with Gu He'an's approval, so in his heart, he only recognized Gu He'an as his boss.

"Gu He'an's aptitude is mediocre. Even if you don't consider yourself, you must consider your team," Lu Qianchuan said, showing Yu Ming some data on Gu He'an's performance since taking office, hinting that his request for cooperation was not out of personal vendetta, but for mutual benefit.

Lu Qianchuan immediately chimed in, "The one who registered the marriage with her is me. The wedding ring on her finger now is one I chose for her; she is my wife."

"..." Yu Ming and Ding Xin stared at the two of them in shock.

Qin Yan gave the man a strange look, and Lu Qianchuan met her gaze.

He hadn't made it public in a formal setting, just told his friends, so that shouldn't count as breaking the rules, right?
