Chapter 8: Still want me to cook? I

~8 min read 1,452 words

Arriving at the Gu house, Qin Yan walked into the living room.

She saw Gu He'an's parents, Gu He'an's younger sister, Gu Shanshan, and Lin Yan.

They were harmonious and chatting happily, looking more like a family.

Qin Yan had once longed to marry Gu He'an, partly because of his family atmosphere; she liked the relaxed atmosphere of their home.

She thought that marrying into the Gu family would mean integrating into them and becoming one of them.

Now it seemed how ridiculous her thoughts had been at that time!

Seeing her come over, Gu Shanshan complained, "Why did you just get here? I'm starving; hurry up and go to the kitchen to cook."

Qin Yan didn't answer.

Seeing her not take her seriously at all, Gu Shanshan got angry.

"Qin Yan, my brother is supporting you now. My brother gets off work, and you should have food ready waiting for my brother to come back. You, on the other hand, let my brother work all day and still have to go pick her up. Heh, did my brother marry a wife home, or find an ancestor home!"

"Shanshan, maybe Miss Qin had her own business." Lin Yan persuaded gently.

But her words made Qin Yan seem even more incompetent and lazy.

"What business could she have? Can she be busier than my brother? She's just lazy. A woman like her—if it weren't for my brother, who else would want her!" Gu Shanshan snorted coldly.

"Shanshan..." Lin Yan wanted to say a few more words, but her stomach suddenly cramped. She pursed her lips and endured it.

She didn't know what was wrong; after getting off work, she couldn't help but want to go to the bathroom, and she had cramps and couldn't help but fart.

She hadn't eaten anything special today, except for the cake Qin Yan had sent Gu He'an.

But Qin Yan loved him so much, how could she harm him?

"Shanshan, shut up." Gu Mu spoke up to reprimand, stood up elegantly, and looked at Qin Yan with a smile. "Xiaoyan, Shanshan is young and ignorant; don't take it to heart. The cook asked for leave today, so I can only trouble you to cook a few dishes."

If it were before, Qin Yan definitely wouldn't have argued with Gu Shanshan and would have turned to go to the kitchen to get busy.

Now Gu He'an lied to her and still wanted her to cook and serve their family—heh.

"If she's young, then she needs to be educated even more, otherwise she'll be ruined when she grows up." She smiled and turned to look at Gu Mu, asking curiously, "Aunt Gu, you haven't worked for so many years; do you also cook dinner every day waiting for your husband? Since the cook isn't here today, are you not eating dinner?"

"..." Gu Mu's expression stiffened.

Qin Yan's words sounded calm, but she was sarcastically attacking her.

She hadn't managed her daughter well, and by her daughter's standards, she hadn't done a good job as a wife either.

She looked at Qin Yan in confusion. How had the obedient woman become so sharp, with needles hidden in cotton?

"Shanshan, Xiaoyan is your sister-in-law; speak more politely!" Gu He'an said to Gu Shanshan, not too heavily, and then said to Qin Yan, "Shanshan is probably hungry and throwing a tantrum. Xiaoyan, go to the kitchen."

She found it funny in her heart. Your Gu family is hungry, so why should she come to suffer the anger?

She said, "Then accompany me?"

"I... I don't know how, so I won't cause you trouble." Gu He'an resisted.

"I didn't know how before either; I only learned to take care of you." Qin Yan didn't care whether he knew how or not and dragged him into the kitchen.

In the past, he would always use the excuse that he didn't know how to do anything, and then he could do nothing, taking the dishes she had worked hard to cook and giving them to another woman, not leaving any for her.

And he still wanted her to be free labor?

In the kitchen, she found an onion, handed it to him, and said, "You want to eat stir-fried beef, right? Cut this; we'll use it later!"

Gu He'an nodded ignorantly, cut a few times with the kitchen knife, and the pungent smell choked him into coughing; his eyes also felt sour and wanted to tear up. He rubbed them, and his eyes felt even more uncomfortable.

"Xiaoyan, my eyes are so uncomfortable."

"Shall I take a look for you?"

Qin Yan glanced at his hand that had cut the onion, continuing to rub his eyes. She used a tissue stained with onion juice to wipe the corners of his eyes again and asked aggrievedly.

"He'an, are you blaming me for making you do things for me?"

"No, my eyes are really uncomfortable." Gu He'an knew very well that Qin Yan loved him and couldn't possibly harm him, but the area around his eyes was burning, and he truly couldn't take it.

He pushed her away and turned to stumble toward the bathroom.

Qin Yan looked at him and curled her lips. Still want me to cook? I'll poison you to death!

Gu Mu saw her son's red eyes and his expression wasn't right, so she hurriedly went to check, asking with concern, "Son, what's wrong? Is Qin Yan making things difficult for you?"

"No." Gu He'an shook his head. "My eyes are just uncomfortable. Cleaning them with clear water should be fine."

Gu Mu looked at Lin Yan in the living room, smiled and beckoned to her. Once she came over, she pulled her into the bathroom and said, "Lin Yan, your Brother He'an's eyes are uncomfortable; hurry and help him. I'll go see what Qin Yan is doing in the kitchen."

This was a hint to Lin Yan that she would go watch Qin Yan for them. Lin Yan thanked her gratefully.

In the kitchen, Qin Yan glanced at Gu Mu letting Lin Yan and Gu He'an spend time together, seeing that she tacitly approved of their relationship.

Since that was the case, she wouldn't be polite!

"Qin Yan, what did He'an do in the kitchen just now to make his eyes so red?" Gu Mu walked into the kitchen. Although she was asking, her tone carried reproach.

Qin Yan turned her head in confusion and countered, "He suddenly said his eyes were uncomfortable. What's wrong? Shall I go take a look?"

"No need, you continue with your work." Gu Mu blocked her and looked at the onion cut on the side. The smell was a bit pungent; could it be that Gu He'an didn't like the smell and used the excuse of uncomfortable eyes to leave?

"He'an worked all day and is tired. Qin Yan, what do you need to do? Call me to help you; how can a man do these things."

"Alright, you come cut the beef; I'll go prepare other dishes." Qin Yan smiled and handed the kitchen knife to her.

"..." Gu Mu's expression stiffened again.

She was just being polite; she didn't expect Qin Yan to have such low EQ and actually ask her to do things.

"Aunt Gu, it's getting late. Everyone is eating this dinner; it will be faster if we all work together. Why don't you call Shanshan over too?" Qin Yan stood on the side picking vegetables.

"Don't, Shanshan doesn't know how to cook; if she comes, she'll only cause trouble."

Gu Mu didn't want her daughter to do these dirty things, so she could only bite the bullet and pick up the kitchen knife to cut the beef.

Inside the bathroom.

Gu He'an felt his eyes were much better. Suddenly, Lin Yan stood on tiptoe, wanting to kiss him. He raised his hand to block her lips and stepped back, looking nervously outside.

"Don't mess around!"

"Don't worry, Miss Qin is in the kitchen seriously cooking for me; she won't find out." Lin Yan smiled and leaned closer, but saw Gu He'an frown and look toward the toilet, asking, "Why is there a foul smell?"

"..." Qin Yan's expression instantly turned liver-colored.

"Wipe it yourself!"

Lin Yan was ashamed and angry, tossed the tissue to him, and turned to leave.

Every time she farted, her stomach felt a bit better, but the farts were very smelly, which put a lot of pressure on her heart.

She wouldn't eat this dinner after all.

"Ah!"

Just as she was preparing to find an excuse to leave, she heard a sad scream from the kitchen.

It was Qin Yan's voice. ===== CHAPTER 9 =====
