Chapter 134: Fortunately, the Early Discovery

~7 min read 1,205 words

Her gaze swept over Su Yanhua's haggard, disheveled appearance, a flash of complex emotion in her eyes—there was pity, but more so a resolute detachment.

"You resent the unfairness of fate, resent meeting unworthy people; that is understandable."

"But what you should resent most may be your own original choice, and the heart now filled with malicious thoughts."

"You blame all misfortunes on me only because you cannot face your own life's failures; you need a target to vent your resentment."

Su Ruan paused, her tone growing colder.

"But my children, my family, my life are not your punching bag."

"Your actions today have crossed the line."

She turned to Jiang Jianguo and Jiang Ran, her voice firm: "Dad, Jiang Ran, call the police."

Those words, like the final straw, completely crushed Su Yanhua.

Call the police? Will she be taken by the public security again? Like Lin Wei?

"No! You can't call the police! Su Ruan! I'm your sister!!"

Su Yanhua screamed in terror, trying to rush forward, but Jiang Ran stopped her again.

"Now you realize I'm your sister?" Su Ruan looked at her, the last warmth in her eyes gone, "When you set your mind on Jinjin and Nian An, didn't you think you were their aunt?"

Finally, at Jiang Jianguo's signal, the hotel security and the precinct police who arrived took the completely broken, sobbing Su Yanhua away from the scene.

In the evening, the full‑moon banquet ended.

After seeing off the last guest, the vast banquet hall was left only with Jiang Family members.

Li Huijuan, who had been forcing herself, seemed to have her strength drained in an instant, stumbling a step, and Jiang Jianguo beside her steadied her.

She stared at the table of leftovers and cold dishes, and recalling Su Yanhua's frantic, venomous gaze, her eyes instantly reddened.

"Sin… truly a sin…" she murmured, voice choked, "Our peaceful days, how could she have ruined them… Jinjin and An'an, almost…"

She could not continue, only clinging tightly to her husband's arm, her body trembling slightly.

Whenever she thought of Su Yanhua's unwavering stare at Nian An, and Jiang Ran's startled, angry roar, a chill of dread ran through her heart.

Jiang Jianguo's face turned ashen; he gently patted his wife's back and said gravely, "It's alright, the children are fine. With us here, no one will dare harm them."

Although his tone was steady, his tightly pressed lips and the lingering sharpness in his eyes revealed his inner unrest.

As the head of the household, he felt a deeper anger and lingering fear, that such a dangerous person had been allowed in, almost causing a disaster.

Grandma Jiang sat in her chair, tightly clutching Buddhist Beads, her lips moving slightly as if chanting.

The elder had weathered many storms; she seemed calm now, but her slightly trembling hand and tightly closed eyes betrayed the raging turmoil within.

She valued family harmony and the safety of her descendants above all; today's incident was undeniably a knife to her heart.

Jiang Jiaojiao's chest rose with anger, teeth clenched: "Su Yanhua is a lunatic; how dare she! In broad daylight she tried to harm the children! She must not be let off lightly! She must go to prison!"

As she spoke, she instinctively held Jinjin tighter in her arms, as if that could dispel the chilling fear.

Yan Shen stood beside her, brows knit, he wrapped his arm around Jiang Jiaojiao's shoulder, offering silent comfort while calmly analyzing: "Uncle, aunt, this matter is of a very vile nature; although it was an attempt, the motive and actions are clear. Reporting to the police is correct; the law will give her the punishment she deserves."

His composure, to some extent, soothed the Jiang family's turbulent emotions.

Jinjin and Nian An, who were tightly held in Jiang Ran's and Su Ruan's arms, also seemed to sense the previously tense, suppressed atmosphere, wriggling uneasily.

Nian An pouted, whimpering softly in a hurt voice; Su Ruan quickly gave a gentle shake, humming a soothing tune.

Jiang Ran lowered his head, looking at his daughter's tear‑filled eyes and his son's still‑frowned brows despite his unease; his heart felt clenched by an invisible hand, both painful and angry.

He lifted his gaze, scanning his family's still‑shaken faces, finally landing on Su Ruan's pallid face, a surge of intense guilt and raging anger flooding his heart.

"Blame me," his hoarse voice said, laced with suppressed fury, "I should have been more vigilant, I should have guarded the children step by step; I shouldn't have let any suspicious person get close!"

He resented that he had just turned his back on the children, only a few steps from Su Yanhua; had the father not been alert...

Su Ruan sensed his tense body and the guilt in his words, freed a hand, gently placed it over his clenched fist, and softly said, "I don't blame you, Jiang Ran. No one expected her to go this far, daring to strike in front of so many people."

"Fortunately dad discovered it, and fortunately you reacted quickly; the children are all fine."

Her voice was gentle and firm, like a clear spring, slightly soothing Jiang Ran's agitation and malice.

He, in return, clenched Su Ruan's slightly cool hand tightly, as if drawing strength and comfort from it.

"RuanRuan is right," Jiang Jianguo said, regaining his usual composure, "In this matter, we all share responsibility; our vigilance was insufficient."

"But fortunately, no irreparable damage occurred. Now the important thing is to be more careful in the future."

"Ranran, especially you, keep your temper in check, stay calm when things arise; protecting RuanRuan and the children comes first, but you must not act impulsively and drag yourself into trouble."

Jiang Ran inhaled deeply, nodded: "Dad, I understand."

"Alright, this place isn't suitable for staying long; let's go home first," Jiang Jianguo said, "Jiaojiao, Yan Shen, help carry something. Huijuan, Mom, we'll help you back."

The family gathered their tangled emotions, bearing fatigue and the gratitude of having survived, left the hotel, and returned to the Jiang Family Courtyard where they could rest in peace.

Back in the familiar setting, smelling the household's familiar aroma of cooking, everyone's tense nerves finally began to relax a little.

Li Huijuan and Grandma Jiang immediately took the two children, cradling them as if confirming a treasured relic recovered, repeatedly patting them while murmuring "Amitabha, may the ancestors protect."

Su Ruan was forcibly ordered by Jiang Ran to return to the bedroom to rest.

She was already exhausted today and had suffered a considerable fright; her complexion remained poor.

Jiang Ran followed step by step, pouring tea, fetching water, making the bed, his careful manner as if Su Ruan were a fragile doll.

"I'm really fine," Su Ruan said, watching him bustle about, feeling both warmth and helplessness, "I'm just a bit tired; a short rest will do."

"No, you must lie down properly," Jiang Ran said firmly, pressing her onto the bed and covering her with the quilt, "Mother said a scare during confinement isn't trivial; you must rest well."

"From today on, you don't have to handle anything; just watch the children, I'll take care of the rest."
