Chapter 185: Not Enough Yet?

~7 min read 1,244 words

Su Ruan grasped his hand again, but she knew: being a benchmark means more attention, also greater pressure.

Halfway through the banquet, Jiang Ran was pulled aside by a few people to discuss cooperation.

Su Ruan was surrounded by several female entrepreneurs, who asked about her design philosophy and startup story.

When they finally got away, the two met again at the dessert table.

"Tired?" Jiang Ran handed Su Ruan a glass of juice, "Your face is smiling stiff."

"You too." Su Ruan took the juice, "But… it's worth it."

"Mm, worth it." Jiang Ran looked at her, then laughed, "Darling, you look especially good in that dress. A few people just asked me where your outfit is from."

Su Ruan's face flushed slightly: "You…"

The banquet ended at nine. After seeing off all the guests, the two returned to the building's lobby.

In the night, only a few windows of the skyscraper remained lit.

"Is Douzi still there?" Su Ruan looked up.

"Probably." Jiang Ran took out a key and opened the door, "Before the new product launch, everyone has to be busy for a while."

They didn't go home right away, but went back into the company.

The first‑floor exhibition hall, under the night lights, looked even more tranquil and refined.

The hanging garments resembled soldiers waiting silently for inspection.

Jiang Ran walked to the "Ren" series display, reached out and brushed the moon‑white long coat, "It's been a year… and it's still here."

"It will always be." Su Ruan walked to his side, "This is our foundation."

The two sat on the sofa in the center of the hall. Around them it was quiet, only the low hum of the air‑conditioner.

"Darling," Jiang Ran suddenly said, "After the Autumn Release Conference, let's go back to our hometown. Bring Jinjin and An'an, plus Mom, Dad, and Grandma. It's been ages."

"Okay." Su Ruan leaned on his shoulder, "We should go back and see. The old shop in Hu Tong is now run by Wang Shifu's apprentice, but we should still show up."

"And also…" Jiang Ran's hand wrapped around her waist, "We haven't had a moment alone in ages. Tonight…"

His voice lowered, carrying a hint.

Su Ruan's face heated up: "Here? No… what if someone…"

"Everyone's off work." Jiang Ran kissed her ear, "Besides… don't you think it's… quite memorable here?"

The "here" he meant was clearly not the sofa.

Su Ruan's heart raced, pushing him away: "Stop it… this is the company…"

"The boss of the company, inside the company, what's the problem?"

Jiang Ran, confident, lifted her up and headed toward the second floor.

"Jiang Ran!" Su Ruan whispered in alarm, but didn't struggle too much, "Put me down…"

"Not putting you down." Jiang Ran kept walking, "Tonight, let's try the new office."

The second‑floor corridor was dim, only the green exit signs glowed faintly.

Jiang Ran fumbled in the dark, opened his office door, pulled Su Ruan inside, and kicked the door shut with his foot.

In the darkness, breathing sounded especially clear.

"You…" Su Ruan's words were cut off as she was kissed.

The kiss was more urgent than ever, tinged with the excitement of conquering new territory and possessiveness.

Jiang Ran's hand slid down her back, found the dress zipper, and slowly pulled it down.

"Wait…" Su Ruan grabbed his hand, "The curtains… aren't closed…"

Jiang Ran chuckled low, carried her to the window, single‑handedly drew the heavy curtains, then pressed her against the wall: "Now it's fine."

His office had a huge floor‑to‑ceiling window; though the curtains were drawn, the street lights outside still seeped in faintly, outlining their intertwined silhouettes.

The tension of being in an unfamiliar place, possibly discovered at any moment, made Su Ruan especially sensitive.

She bit her lip, stifling any sound, while her body honestly responded to every touch from Jiang Ran.

"Darling…" Jiang Ran whispered in her ear, breath hot, "…the soundproofing here is great…"

Su Ruan shook her head, but he kissed her, swallowing all her whimpers.

She couldn't tell how long passed; everything calmed.

Jiang Ran held Su Ruan, both leaning against the wall, catching their breath.

In the dark, only each other's heartbeats could be heard.

"Crazy…" Su Ruan whispered, "If anyone finds out…"

"Knowing is knowing." Jiang Ran laughed contentedly, "Boss and boss lady, in our own company, it's natural."

He paused, his voice softened: "And… I've wanted you here for a long time. Since the day we signed for this building."

Su Ruan's heart skipped; she looked up in the dark for his eyes: "Why?"

"Because this is our new starting point." Jiang Ran kissed her forehead, "I want to create new memories here with you."

The words were blunt yet romantic.

Su Ruan's nose tinged with sourness, and she hugged him tightly.

The two lingered in the office for a while, then tidied their clothes and slipped away quietly.

On the way home, the night breeze was slightly cool.

Jiang Ran drove, Su Ruan leaned against the passenger seat, watching the night view outside.

"Starting next week, we'll be busy with the conference," she said.

"Mm." Jiang Ran replied, "But this time we have a team, so we don't have to do everything ourselves like last year."

"The design still has to be done by me."

"Of course." Jiang Ran reached out and held her hand, "You are the soul of Chongsu."

The car drove into the newly rented community.

To make work convenient, they rented a three‑bedroom apartment near the High-tech Zone and only return to their hometown on weekends.

They parked the car and went upstairs.

They opened the door; the house was quiet.

Li Huijuan and Jiang Jianguo are at their hometown with the child, and they won't come back this weekend.

"Finally…," Jiang Ran closed the door, pressed Su Ruan against it, "Now it's just the two of us again."

"Not enough yet?" Su Ruan pushed him.

"Never enough," Jiang Ran said with a smile, lifting her, "Come on, shower, then sleep."

In the bathroom, steam swirled.

The two squeezed into the modest shower, and Jiang Ran carefully washed Su Ruan's hair.

"Tomorrow is Saturday; we can sleep in," he said.

"Can't sleep," Su Ruan said with eyes closed, enjoying his service, "I have to go to the company and polish the Sketch for the press conference."

"What about the afternoon? We should rest in the afternoon, right?"

"Afternoon… I have an appointment with a fabric supplier to look at new samples."

Jiang Ran sighed, "Mrs Jiang, if you keep going like this, I'll feel sorry for you."

Su Ruan opened her eyes, turned to face him, water droplets sliding down her cheek, "Then will you share the burden with me?"

"How to share?" Jiang Ran raised an eyebrow.

Su Ruan tiptoed and whispered something into his ear.

Jiang Ran's eyes lit up, "I agree with this way of sharing."

Amid the sound of water, faint laughter and soft sighs mixed in.

Late at night, the two lay on the bed, Jiang Ran hugging Su Ruan, and suddenly said, "Douzi and Yaya are still young; they still have to keep going to school."

"I think so too! The two of us really have a telepathic connection!"

Jiang Ran gave Su Ruan a quick kiss, then complained, "But you still have to tell them; they might not want to hear me, so I still have to beg my dear wife~"
