Chapter 240: More Beautiful Than Any Scenery
Su Ruan was curious, but didn't ask further: "Okay, I'm waiting."
In the following weeks, Su Ruan and Jiang Ran were both busy with work, but their mindset was much more relaxed than before.
The Rebirth Series received strong market response, especially the design with the slogan "All cracks are places where light comes in," which became a motto for many people.
"Sister Su, we have letters from readers," Lin Xiao said, carrying a stack of letters into the office. "They're all feedback about the Rebirth Series."
Su Ruan took them and read each one.
Some shared their own stories, some expressed gratitude, some asked about the design… every letter was sincere and warm.
One particular letter caught her attention:
"Designer Su, hello. I am a breast‑cancer survivor, and I saw the Rebirth Series and Aunt Li's story in a magazine. Seeing those clothes and that sentence made me cry. Not because of sadness, but because I felt understood and seen. Thank you for letting me know that scars can become medals."
The letter was short, but every word was genuine. Su Ruan's eyes grew moist.
She picked up her pen to reply: "Dear friend, thank you for your letter. You said you were seen, but in fact you also saw me. Design is a two‑way street: I express, you receive, and we connect through the work. Wishing you health, happiness, and that every day is worthwhile."
After finishing the letter, Su Ruan suddenly got a new idea.
She pulled out a sketchbook and began drawing quickly.
It's not clothing, but a set of patterns.
Scars, cracks, yet light shines through them. They could become silk scarves, accessories, …
"What are you drawing?" Jiang Ran's voice called out.
Su Ruan looked up: "A new idea. I want to create a Light Series, not clothing but accessories—silk scarves, brooches, hair clips… extending the Rebirth concept to more places."
Jiang Ran leaned over to look: "That's a good idea. What support do you need?"
"Not for now," Su Ruan smiled, "let me refine the idea first."
"Alright." Jiang Ran planted a kiss on her forehead, "My wife is amazing, always coming up with new ideas."
"Stop it." Su Ruan's face flushed, "By the way, how's that Warm Light Series coming along?"
"It's still in the brainstorming stage," Jiang Ran said, "I'll tell you as soon as I have the first one."
"Okay."
The two chatted a bit more, then returned to their work.
Though busy, with each other's support everything felt orderly and fulfilling.
【5】 Friday evening, Jiang Ran, looking mysterious, produced a document.
Friday night, Jiang Ran mysteriously took out a document.
"Wife, take a look at this."
Su Ruan took it; it was a travel itinerary. Destination: Yunnan Lijiang. Duration: three days, two nights. The schedule was detailed: Day one, strolling through the ancient town; day two, Yulong Snow Mountain; day three, Shuhe Ancient Town.
"Depart next Friday, how about it?" Jiang Ran asked, "It coincides with our wedding anniversary."
Su Ruan's eyes lit up: "Lijiang? I've always wanted to go!"
"Then it's settled," Jiang Ran laughed, "I've booked the flights and the hotel."
"What about the kids?"
"Dad, Mom, and Grandma will take them," Jiang Ran said, "just three days, we'll be back quickly."
"Okay." Su Ruan hugged him, "Thank you, Jiang Ran. You always surprise me."
"You deserve it." Jiang Ran kissed her hair, "These six years, you've worked hard. It's time to relax properly."
This weekend, the two began packing. Though it was just a short trip, Su Ruan was still very excited.
"Mom, where are you going?" An'an asked.
"To a very beautiful place," Su Ruan said, "When you grow up, Mom and Dad will take you there."
"How long will it take?"
"Soon." Jiang Ran lifted his daughter, "An'an, be good at home; when Mom and Dad return they'll bring you a gift."
"Okay." An'an nodded, "I'll take care of my brother."
Jinjin whispered, "I'll take care of my sister."
Watching the sensible children, Su Ruan felt warmth in her heart.
The night before departure, the two lay in bed, unable to sleep.
"Nervous?" Jiang Ran asked.
"A little," Su Ruan admitted, "It's been a long time since I traveled alone."
"Me too." Jiang Ran squeezed her hand, "But more than that it's anticipation. Just the two of us, like when we were courting."
Su Ruan smiled, "When we were dating, we never went to Lijiang."
"So we'll make up for it now." Jiang Ran turned over, leaning over her, "Wife, these six years, thank you."
"You're thanking me again."
"It's sincere." Jiang Ran kissed her.
Friday morning, sunlight streamed through the curtains into the bedroom.
When Su Ruan woke up, she found Jiang Ran already awake, lying on his side watching her.
"Morning," she whispered.
"Morning, Mrs Jiang," Jiang Ran kissed her forehead, "Happy wedding anniversary."
Su Ruan only then remembered that today was their wedding anniversary.
"Six years…" she sighed, "Time flies."
"Indeed." Jiang Ran pulled her into his arms, "Six years, two kids, a home, a career. All we built together."
The two lingered in bed for a while before getting up to wash up. As they went downstairs, Li Huijuan was already preparing breakfast.
"Mom, why are you up so early?" Su Ruan asked.
"I'm seeing you off," Li Huijuan said with a smile, "Take care on the road, have fun."
"Thank you, Mom."
An'an and Jinjin also got up, and knowing that Mom and Dad were going on a long trip, they felt a bit reluctant.
"Mom, come back early," An'an said, hugging Su Ruan's leg.
"Dad will miss you," Jinjin whispered.
"Mom and Dad will miss you too," Su Ruan crouched down, embracing the children, "Three days go by quickly, in the blink of an eye."
Jiang Ran also crouched down: "When we return, we'll bring you tasty food and fun things."
"Okay." The two children nodded vigorously.
After breakfast, Douzi drove over to pick them up. After saying goodbye to their family, the two headed to the airport.
On the plane, Su Ruan looked at the clouds outside the window, a bit excited: "It's been a long time since I last flew."
"The last time we flew was to Shanghai," Jiang Ran squeezed her hand, "From now on we'll travel more, both domestically and abroad, to see the world."
"Okay."
Three hours later, the plane landed in Lijiang. Stepping out of the airport, they immediately sensed a different atmosphere—the air was fresh, the sky deep blue, and the distant Snow Mountain was clearly visible.
"So beautiful," Su Ruan inhaled deeply, "It's completely different from the north."
"Indeed," Jiang Ran also looked at the distant Snow Mountain, "This is Yulong Snow Mountain."
The hotel sent a car to pick them up. The hotel, located on the edge of the old town, is a traditional Naxi Ethnic Group courtyard inn, with wooden structures, small bridges and flowing water, very distinctive.
"Really beautiful," Su Ruan stood in the courtyard, "It's like a painting."
"Do you like it?" Jiang Ran asked.
"I like it," Su Ruan nodded, "Especially full of charm."
After checking in, the room was on the second floor. Opening the window revealed the old town's rooftops and the distant Snow Mountain.
"Let's rest first," Jiang Ran said, "In the afternoon we'll stroll around the old town."
