Chapter 26: Innocent Little Wolfdog
Jiang Ran, restraining himself, released Su Ruan's hand, then, with great reluctance, gave her a heavy peck on the lips, and as if he had exhausted his strength, he suddenly stepped back a step, widening the gap between them.
The cold air surged in instantly, making both of them shiver.
Jiang Ran looked at Su Ruan's slightly disheveled clothes, swollen red lips, and the charming, watery-eyed look under the moonlight, and the suppressed wicked fire almost surged up again.
He dared not look any longer, turned away in a fluster, his voice muffled: "You… you quickly put your clothes back on! Don't catch a cold!"
After speaking, he fled almost in panic, flinging the door open and rushing out without looking back, nearly tripping over the threshold.
Back in his cold, empty room, Jiang Ran leaned against the door, breathing heavily.
He rushed into the bathroom, turned on the faucet, and splashed his face with icy tap water, trying to douse the burning fire inside him.
Meanwhile, Su Ruan, still in the room, heard the hurried footsteps fading outside and the water sounds from next door, and couldn't help but let out a "Pfft" laugh.
She readjusted the slipped shoulder strap, tidied her disheveled clothes, walked to the window, gazed at the cool moonlight outside, yet her face bore a warm smile.
This little wolfdog… really is… adorably innocent.
However, his restraint and respect just now made her heart feel softer and steadier.
She began to look forward to the truly theirs wedding night.
But for now, she still had to return to the Su family and completely settle the remaining trouble.
Early the next morning, the atmosphere at the dining table was somewhat subtle.
Jiang Jianguo and Li Huijuan watched their son, who buried his head in the rice, his ears constantly flushed, his eyes occasionally stealing glances at Su Ruan, and whenever his gaze met hers, he would instantly recoil like a startled rabbit, making them feel both amused and gratified.
That kid, who used to be a fearless Chaos Demon King type, now finally seems to know shyness?
It seems that being married changes things; he now knows how to cherish his daughter‑in‑law and even feels embarrassed.
Jiang Nainai also smiled warmly, handed Su Ruan a fried egg: "RuanRuan, eat more, look at your little frame."
"Thank you, Grandma."
Su Ruan replied obediently, her face showing a perfectly timed shy blush, while the corner of her eye captured Jiang Ran's restless, embarrassed posture, finding it extremely amusing.
Jiang Ran felt as if sitting on a bed of needles; his mind replayed last night's moonlit, dazzlingly pale skin, the damp gaze and soft touch, and a certain part of his body began to stir faintly.
He didn't dare to look Su Ruan straight in the eye, fearing he might lose control and embarrass himself again.
After much effort they finally finished the meal; Jiang Jianguo and Li Huijuan prepared to go to work, Jiang Nainai changed clothes and, in high spirits, said she had arranged with her old sisters to go to the park for senior disco dancing.
Before leaving, Li Huijuan, uneasy, reminded Jiang Ran and Jiang Jiaojiao: "Ranran, Jiaojiao, later you two take RuanRuan to the Jinxiu Caifeng Pu to take measurements for the Wedding Dress. Remember, choose the finest material—Suzhou silk or Hang brocade—and the design must be the newest and most beautiful. Don't worry about the cost! Make sure we dress RuanRuan as the most beautiful bride!"
Jiang Nainai nodded repeatedly: "Yes! Choose the red one! Festive!"
Jiang Jiaojiao replied cheerfully: "Don't worry, Mom, it's on me! I'll definitely dress my younger sister‑in‑law like a celestial maiden!"
Jiang Ran let out a muffled "mm."
After seeing the elders off, only the three of them remained at home.
Jiang Ran finally breathed a little easier, yet still dared not look directly at Su Ruan, his gaze drifting aimlessly out the window.
Su Ruan, seeing his awkward demeanor, smiled inwardly, stepped forward, and gently tugged his sleeve.
Jiang Ran's body tensed noticeably, his neck stiff, not turning around, his voice rigid: "W‑what?"
"Brother," Su Ruan's voice was soft, with a hint of coquettishness, "don't rush to take me to the tailor shop yet; I have an idea and want to discuss it with you and sister."
Jiang Ran could hardly tolerate her tone; the unease in his heart was largely soothed, and he turned his head toward Su Ruan, trying to make his expression look natural: "What idea?"
Jiang Jiaojiao leaned in curiously: "Yeah, RuanRuan, what's your idea? Speak freely!"
Su Ruan pulled the two of them onto the sofa, her expression turning serious: "I promised yesterday to return to the Su family to marry, but it was intentional."
Jiang Ran and Jiang Jiaojiao exchanged glances, both a bit puzzled.
"I find it strange!" Jiang Jiaojiao blurted, "Those people never seem like they'd consider you!"
Su Ruan nodded, analyzing: "Dad, Mom, and Grandma are genuinely caring; they think a girl marrying out of her natal home is proper and looks good for face."
"But Su Dazhuang and Wang Juhua are eager for me to quickly bind myself to the Jiang family, so I won't go back and get in their way. How could they voluntarily suggest that I return? And they invoke propriety?"
She paused, her gaze slightly cold: "After thinking it over, the only one who truly wants me to go back is probably Su Yanhua."
"Su Yanhua? Her?" Jiang Ran frowned, recalling Su Yanhua's harsh words toward Su Ruan yesterday, "What mischief is she up to now?"
"Her schemes are limited," Su Ruan said calmly, "She basically wants to embarrass me on the wedding day, to make me lose face, and the easiest and most humiliating trick is—"
"Wedding Dress!" Jiang Jiaojiao blurted out, reacting instantly.
After saying that, she almost wanted to grab Su Yanhua's hair and give her a couple of slaps, cementing her reputation as a tigress.
"Yes, the Wedding Dress," Su Ruan affirmed, "She will probably try to hide or ruin my Wedding Dress on the wedding day. Then I'll have no bridal attire, and in front of all those relatives and friends I'll become a laughingstock. The Jiang family's face will also lose its luster."
"She dares!" Jiang Ran slammed the sofa armrest, standing up angrily, his eyes fierce, "I think she's completely out of her mind!"
"Of course she dares, and she's probably already planned it," Su Ruan held his hand, letting him sit down again, "So we can't let her succeed."
Jiang Jiaojiao also calmed down, frowning: "Then what do we do? We can't just skip the Wedding Dress, can we? Or assign someone to guard it all the time?"
"I have an idea." Su Ruan looked at them, a sly glint in her eye, "Openly build a road, secretly cross the warehouse."
"What does that mean?" Jiang Ran didn't quite understand.
Su Ruan smiled as she explained to the two of them: "It means that on the surface we'll still follow Mom and Dad's wishes, go to the Jinxiu Caifeng Pu to take measurements and make the most beautiful, eye‑catching Wedding Dress."
"And this Wedding Dress will be made for Su Yanhua to see, making her think this is my only bridal outfit."
