Chapter 6: The Heavenly Daughter-in-Law
Jiang Ran felt a little embarrassed when he said the word "partner".
He then lowered his head and explained to Su Ruan in a casual tone: "Wei Wei grew up with us, got used to being wild, doesn't have a girly look, so don't mind."
Su Ruan's inner brat rolled her eyes.
See, it really turned out that way.
"Bro," "no girly look," classic lines.
Su Ruan nodded slightly at Lin Wei, her smile flawless, but her tone carried a subtle nuance only women understand: "So you're comrade Lin Wei, hello. I often hear Jiang Ran mention you and the other close friends you grew up with."
She deliberately emphasized the three words "good friends", then turned her gaze to Jiang Ran, her tone becoming even more gentle and caring, with obvious intimacy and possessiveness.
"Brother, your friend is still waiting for you, go back quickly. I should also go home, otherwise… the family will worry."
Her words both highlighted that her relationship with Jiang Ran was not ordinary, yet seemed generous and sensible, and precisely placed Lin Wei in the "friend" category.
Lin Wei's chest rose with anger, but she couldn't find words to rebut, only glared fiercely at Su Ruan.
Jiang Ran thought Su Ruan was being too sensible and giving him a hard time, quickly nodded: "Alright! Then take it easy on the road! Later… later I'll come find you!"
He originally wanted to bring up tomorrow's proposal, but with Lin Wei nearby, he didn't have the nerve to say it.
Su Ruan politely smiled at everyone again, especially nodded at Lin Wei, then turned and walked away gracefully.
Jiang Ran watched her silhouette disappear at the alley entrance, then reluctantly withdrew his gaze.
When he turned back, he saw Lin Wei's face ashen, glaring at him.
"Jiang Ran, do you understand her? Do you know who she is? You only met her a few days and already have a partner? Want to marry? Are you out of your mind!" Lin Wei shouted angrily, speaking without restraint.
Jiang Ran, irritated by her shout, replied: "Lin Wei, have you gone off your meds? It's none of your business that I, your little lord, am looking for a partner and marriage! I'm willing! She's beautiful and gentle, far better than your noisy bluster! From now on be courteous to her, she's your future sister‑in‑law!"
After speaking, he impatiently waved his hand, turned and walked back: "Shi Tou, Da Liu, I'm leaving, go into the cassette! Too lazy to chat with this crazy woman!"
Lin Wei was left standing, watching Jiang Ran's unromantic back, and recalling Su Ruan's seemingly weak yet scheming demeanor earlier, her eyes instantly reddened.
She clenched her fists tightly.
Sister‑in‑law? Dream on!
She would never let that mysterious woman snatch Jiang Ran away like that!
Meanwhile, Su Ruan, walking away, had a faint, barely perceptible cold smile at the corner of her mouth.
Man Tea sister?
The rank is still a bit low; to compete with Su Ruan for a man, she'd need to cultivate for a few more hundred years.
The Jiang Family—Jiang Jianguo and Li Huijuan had just set down their luggage from a business trip and hadn't spoken yet when Jiang Ran burst out like a cannonball.
"Dad, Mom, you're back just in time, I… I have someone I like, I want to marry her!"
In the living room, Jiang Nainai, wearing reading glasses, was mending clothes; upon hearing this, she raised her head in surprise.
Jiang Ran stood in the center of the living room, unusually nervous, his toes digging into the shoe, already prepared for questioning and even opposition.
After all, he himself thought this marriage was a bit sudden and absurd.
He forced himself, stiffening his neck, and added: "It's… it's just what happened a couple of days ago. She's a good person, looks good, anyway… anyway I'm going to marry her!"
The anticipated storm never came.
Jiang Jianguo was stunned for a few seconds, then slapped his thigh loudly, his voice bright with incredulous joy: "Good kid! Are you serious?! You're not messing with your old man, are you?"
Li Huijuan instantly brightened, hurried to her son, eyes shining: "Ranran, you're not kidding? Which family is the girl from? How old is she? How did you meet? Does she… does she agree to marry you?"
Her questions were a bit cautious, as if her son having someone to marry was a huge surprise.
Jiang Nainai also put down needle and thread, chuckled, nudged her reading glasses: "Oh dear, our Ranran knows he needs a wife now? Good thing, a huge good thing!"
Jiang Ran was completely at a loss by his parents' overly enthusiastic and gratified reaction.
"It's not… Dad, Mom, Grandma, you… you don't want to ask about the specifics? What if her family background is poor? What if…"
Jiang Ran himself began looking for "flaws" in Su Ruan.
"What are you asking!" Jiang Jianguo waved his hand, a smile unmistakable on his face, "So what if her family background is poor? Are we the type that despises poverty and loves wealth? As long as the girl has good character and is a proper partner, that's all that matters!"
Li Huijuan kept nodding, her eyes a bit moist: "Ranran, Mom is afraid you'll end up alone… Now it's good, finally someone can take care of you, someone who knows when you're cold or hot."
Her words were understated, but the meaning was clear.
The two elders had always worried that their unruly, idle younger son would remain a bachelor his whole life.
Jiang Ran felt a pang inside, realizing that's the image his parents had of him.
But more than that was a relieved happiness; he had originally worried the family would make trouble because of Su Ruan's background, but it went so smoothly!
"Her name is Su Ruan, she lives at the South City Mechanical Factory Family Courtyard, her father seems to be a worker at the factory…" Jiang Ran quickly spouted the limited information he knew.
"A worker family is good, solid!" Jiang Jianguo nodded, "The old Su family? I think I have some impression… they're honest and straightforward."
At this moment Jiang Jianguo hadn't realized he had mistaken the person.
"Alright, alright," Li Huijuan grew more delighted as she listened, "What does she look like? You said she's good‑looking, how good?"
"Especially beautiful! She's more beautiful than any woman I've ever seen! Like a fairy!"
"Look at your little ambition!" Jiang Jianguo scolded jokingly, but his face was full of satisfaction.
Jiang Nainai summed up: "Good‑looking, pleasant to look at. Good temperament is most important, treat her well in the future."
"That's a must!" Jiang Ran pounded his chest in assurance.
Since it's settled, the sooner the better! Tomorrow! Tomorrow I'll go with your mother to propose! It shows our sincerity!
Right! We must set it quickly, lest the night grows long and dreams multiply!
She was truly afraid that this "Heaven‑sent daughter‑in‑law" would fly away.
It's still early, the department store hasn't closed yet, let's go, Huijuan, we should go now to arrange a decent Proposal Gift!
Jiang Jianguo, decisive as thunder, grabbed his wife and was about to head out again.
Jiang Ran watched his parents' bustling backs, still a bit stunned, this… is really happening?
Tomorrow we go propose?
His heart instantly felt as sweet as if he'd drunk honey, and he scratched his head with a foolish grin.
Jiang Nainai watched her grandson's silly appearance and couldn't help laughing too: "Silly boy, why are you still standing there? Go clean up that dog's den of yours! From now on, you'll be a man with a wife!"
