Chapter 62: I Am the Little Dog, Your Little Dog

~7 min read 1,245 words

Jiang Ran's pupils narrowed slightly, he opened his mouth, wanting to deny, but fell defeated under Su Ruan's knowing gaze.

He slumped his shoulders, let out a low "Hmm", essentially conceding.

"Don't do that anymore," Su Ruan's thumb gently stroked his cheek, her tone tinged with a hint of scolding, but mostly concern, "For that kind of person, it's not worth you staying up late, sneaking out."

"I don't want you to get into any trouble because of me, or... get your hands dirty."

She paused, her voice softened a few more degrees: "If there's anything, we can discuss it together, face it together."

"I'm your wife, not a porcelain doll you have to hide and protect in an ivory tower. Understand?"

Her words were like the most effective sedative, instantly smoothing all the restlessness, resentment and lingering fury in Jiang Ran's heart.

He looked at her face just inches away, listening to her gentle yet firm words, and felt his whole heart soaked in hot‑spring water, warm and swelling.

"Hmm... got it, daughter‑in‑law."

He answered lowly, like a big dog whose fur had been smoothed, his eyes wet, full of dependence and emotion.

Su Ruan watched his expression and felt her heart melt.

She rose onto her tiptoes and lightly pressed a kiss onto his slightly pursed, still slightly aggrieved lips.

The kiss at first was only a dragonfly‑skimming reassurance.

But after Jiang Ran froze for a second, a huge wave of ecstasy and the intensified feelings after being soothed instantly overwhelmed him.

He suddenly tightened his arms, pulling Su Ruan firmly into his embrace, turning the guest into the host, deepening the kiss.

This kiss carried the gratitude of surviving a calamity, the moving feeling of being understood, and the scorching love finally released after being suppressed all night.

He kissed urgently and deeply, as if trying to blend her into his very bones and blood, breaths intertwining, temperature soaring.

Su Ruan, caught off guard by his sudden passion, was a little unable to fend it off, gently pushing his chest away, but he held her tighter.

In the haze of desire, she could clearly feel his body's changes: the scorching heat and taut muscles, all announcing his yearning.

Just as Jiang Ran's breathing grew heavier, his large hand began to wander irregularly across her back, about to lose control and ready to lift her onto the bed to properly "compensate" for the night's fear and overflowing love—

Su Ruan suddenly turned her head aside, dodging his scorching kiss, breathing lightly, cheeks flushed, whispering in his ear with a hint of slyness.

"Um... I forgot to tell you... my period has started."

"..."

In an instant, it seemed one could hear something shatter.

All of Jiang Ran's movements froze, his boiling blood seemed instantly frozen.

He kept his hugging posture, lowering his head to look at the Su Ruan in his arms, her cheeks tinged with red but speaking such "cruel" words.

His expression shifted from extreme yearning to bewildered blankness, then to incredulous despair, finally collapsing completely into a pitiful, soul‑drained look of grievance.

Jiang Ran shattered.

The hot blood and passion were mercilessly snuffed out by that sentence, leaving only unvented agitation and a huge sense of loss that engulfed him entirely.

He drooped his head, rested his chin on Su Ruan's shoulder, and let out an extremely plaintive, extremely aggrieved whimper, like a large dog whose beloved bone had been snatched away.

"Daughter‑in‑law... you played me..."

Su Ruan, watching his whole process from boiling passion to instant petrification to hopelessness, finally couldn't help but burst out laughing with a "pfft", reaching out to hug him again, soothing a lost big dog, gently patting his back.

"Alright... next time, next time I'll make it up to you, okay?"

The night was still long, and for a little wolf‑dog who had been "cruelly" told he must abstain, it was destined to be a night full of sweet torment and endless anticipation.

Jiang Ran buried his fluffy head in Su Ruan's neck hollow, humming and sniffling as he nuzzled for a long while, that look of grievance could practically be wrung out for water.

Su Ruan felt her neck itch from his nuzzling, couldn't help laughing and pushing him: "Alright, alright, stop it, you're like a puppy that hasn't weaned yet."

"I am the little dog, your little dog."

Jiang Ran muttered sulkily, yet his arms tightened even more, greedily drawing the warmth and fragrance from her, trying to quell the restless turbulence inside him this way.

Heaven knows his hot blood had surged to his crown just now, and the result... sigh, better not mention, mentioning it only brings tears.

Su Ruan felt his body still tense, his temperature still high, knowing the guy was still uncomfortable.

She felt both amused and a little pained, softened her voice, coaxing like a child: "First go take a shower, you're all sweaty, uncomfortable."

Jiang Ran reluctantly "Hmm"ed, lingered in her neck hollow for a while longer, then, after fidgeting, loosened his grip, slumped his shoulders, and walked to the bathroom step by step, looking back every three steps, that silhouette exuding a desolate melancholy.

Su Ruan watched his theatrical display and shook her head, smiling.

When he entered the bathroom, the whoosh of water came, and she only then walked to the window, watching the heavy night outside, her heart at peace.

Although Jiang Ran's impulsive actions made her a bit worried, his unreserved, scorching and open love was like the warmest fire, driving away any possible lingering gloom in her heart completely.

When Jiang Ran finished showering, emerging with a body damp with water vapor and a fresh soap‑nut scent, his mood seemed a bit steadier, but his gaze still held a hint of melancholy. He climbed onto the bed, habitually reaching to pull Su Ruan into his arms.

Su Ruan gently blocked him, pointing to the spot beside her: "Be honest tonight, just sleep."

Jiang Ran pursed his lips, but still obediently lay down beside her, lying on his side, eyes fixed on her, like a big dog guarding a bone he can't eat.

Su Ruan, unable to bear his stare, turned to face him, placed her hand over his eyes: "Close your eyes, sleep."

A slight tickle of his eyelashes brushed her palm, and indeed he obediently closed his eyes, but the corner of his mouth curled into a faint arc.

He grasped Su Ruan's hand in his palm, finger by finger rubbing it as if it were a fascinating toy.

"Daughter‑in‑law," in the darkness he whispered, his voice carrying the post‑shower laziness and a hint of seriousness, "From now on... I'll try not to hide things from you."

"Hmm." Su Ruan answered softly.

"But if I think something will make you unhappy, or... dirty your ears, I might still have to do it secretly."

He added another sentence, with a touch of stubborn childlike tone.

Su Ruan sighed, knowing this guy's temperament couldn't change overnight; that he even had this intention was already great.

She grasped his finger with the other hand: "Then you must promise me, think about the consequences before you act, don't let yourself get the short end of the stick, and don't... don't be too harsh."

She was ultimately afraid that he would act without a sense of proportion, causing trouble.

"Got it, I have limits." Jiang Ran promised, leaning in to kiss her forehead, "Sleep."
