Chapter 64: Being Fed by My Wife, I'm the Happiest Kid

~7 min read 1,214 words

Even though he slipped away on his own, it didn't stop him from feeling aggrieved.

Jiang Ran suddenly felt an extreme imbalance in his heart; the grievance from being cruelly treated last night, combined with the sourness of being ignored this morning, instantly fermented into a massive resentment.

He slumped his face and walked over in a few steps, ignoring Douzi and Yaya's suddenly tense, rigid little bodies, and went straight to Su Ruan's side; stretching his arm, he wrapped his hands around her waist from behind and rested his chin on her shoulder.

"Wife…"

His voice was muffled, thick with a nasal tone, sounding just like a large dog that had its toy snatched away, especially one with a hungry belly.

Su Ruan was taken aback by his sudden move, feeling the aura around him that seemed to say, "I'm not happy, so please appease me," and she asked, somewhat puzzled, "What's wrong? Was the coat rack issue not going smoothly?"

"The coat rack is fine," Jiang Ran nudged her neck hollow, his eyes plaintively glancing at the eggs in Douzi's and Yaya's hands, especially the half egg Yaya held, his tone sour, "It's just… my stomach's a bit empty."

Su Ruan followed his gaze, then looked at his obviously jealous expression, and couldn't help but feel both amused and exasperated.

This guy, even gets jealous over a kid?

And he does it so self‑righteously?

Douzi and Yaya felt extremely uncomfortable under his stare; Yaya, even more frightened, hid the half egg in her hand behind her back, her little face turning pale, thinking that Jiang Ran brother was about to snatch her egg.

"Haven't you had breakfast?" Su Ruan tried to push him away a bit, noting that it was a public place and there were children present.

"Didn't," Jiang Ran held tighter, beginning to complain in a whiny tone, "Went to work early in the morning, both tired and hungry… came back and saw you giving eggs to others…"

He paused, buried his face into Su Ruan's shoulder, his voice dropping even lower, with a barely perceptible petulance, "I haven't even… wife, you're being partial…"

Su Ruan: "…"

She felt the corner of her forehead twitch faintly.

Douzi, seeing Jiang Ran's demeanor, hesitated, then handed forward the egg he hadn't yet dared to eat, whispering, "Jiang Ran brother, you… could you eat mine?"

Jiang Ran lifted his eyelids, glanced at him, hummed, and instead of taking it, squeezed Su Ruan even tighter, blowing into her ear, "I don't want his; I want the one you, my wife, give me."

The meaning was clear: I don't care about what others give; I want my wife to feel sorry for me and give it to me herself!

Su Ruan was completely out of temper by his childish behavior.

She sighed, patting the hand that encircled her waist, "Let go first, and I'll get you something to eat."

"I won't," Jiang Ran whined, "If you let go, you'll just tend to those two little radish heads."

"Jiang Ran!" Su Ruan couldn't help raising her voice a bit, her ears flushing red, "This guy is really losing all sense of shame."

Seeing his wife truly about to get angry, Jiang Ran reluctantly eased his grip a little, but his hand still loosely circled her waist, his eyes following her with a pleading look.

Su Ruan, helpless, walked behind the counter and took a compact aluminum lunchbox from the cloth bag she had brought.

She had taken it from home that morning, intending to keep it for a midday snack.

She opened the lunchbox; inside were two neatly arranged peeled boiled eggs and a few small scallion pancakes.

She picked up an egg, handed it to Jiang Ran, and said irritably, "Here, I saved this for you. Eat quickly; don't act like a rogue early in the morning."

Jiang Ran's eyes lit up with a "swish" at the sight of the eggs, the previously aggrieved expression vanishing instantly, his mouth unable to stop curving upward.

He knew his wife had him in her heart!

She even saved two for him!

He happily took the egg, not even using his hands, but lowered his head onto Su Ruan's hand and, "Awu," snapped the whole egg into his mouth in one bite, his cheeks instantly puffed out like a food‑storing hamster.

He chewed laboriously while mumbling self‑praise, "Hmm... still my wife is the best... always knew you cared for me... the carpenter side... I've already negotiated... can deliver it this afternoon..."

His smug little eyes even deliberately glanced at the stunned Douzi and Yaya beside him, as if saying, "See, my wife still loves me the most!"

Su Ruan, looking at his wildly inconsistent demeanor, could barely watch, thrust the lunchbox into his hands, "Eat slowly, don't choke. It's all yours, even the pancakes."

"Mm-hmm!"

Jiang Ran nodded vigorously, clutching the lunchbox, and squatted contentedly on the shop's doorstep, munching the scallion pancake while basking in the sun; his silhouette exuded a swaggering vibe of "Being fed by my wife makes me the happiest kid."

Douzi and Yaya watched Jiang Ran brother's mood swing faster than turning pages, exchanged glances, then simultaneously lowered their heads, shoulders twitching slightly, and giggled secretly.

Sister Su was right, Jiang Ran brother... sometimes really is like a big dog!

Su Ruan looked at the large dog at the door, soothed instantly by food, then at the two giggling little radish heads inside the shop, rubbed her forehead, and couldn't help but let a helpless smile curve her mouth.

These days are truly getting more and more lively.

Su Ruan watched the back of the one at the door happily munching the pancake, shook her head helplessly, turned around, and prepared to tidy up the scattered sheets that Jiang Ran had left on the counter when he interrupted.

Most were records of fabric samples and simple size sketches; as Su Ruan sorted them, she mentally planned the next batch of designs.

However, when she lifted the slightly rough draft papers pressed underneath, her movement abruptly halted.

The drawings on these pages were completely different from the previously orderly records.

The lines were somewhat crooked, revealing the writer's rawness, and some spots even tore the paper from excessive pressure.

But what caught Su Ruan's eye wasn't the immature strokes, but the content depicted on the paper.

It was a Sketch of a Dress, not the currently popular loose straight style, but boldly featuring a high‑waisted, cinched design, with flowing pleats at the hem that seemed ready to sway in the wind.

The neckline wasn't the usual small round or square cut, but a chic V‑shape.

On another sheet, the drawing was of a top, with slightly padded shoulders, uniquely flared sleeves, a cinched waist, and an irregularly curved hem.

Su Ruan's heart jumped suddenly.

Although the sketches were rough and the details unrefined, the bold, unconventional concepts and the keen capture of female curves and fashion sense practically leapt off the paper!

That vision, that idea, is by no means inferior to the pioneering designs of later eras in his memory!

But how could that be possible?

In this era, who would draw something like this?

A name instantly flashed into her mind—Jiang Ran!
