Chapter 89: Report the Police, Extort Compensation!
On the other side, the Su family.
Su Yanhua only learned that her parents were in trouble when a neighbor hurriedly ran over to report the news.
She rushed home, and the moment she stepped inside, she saw the house in utter disarray.
Father Da Zhuang lay on the bed, bruised and swollen, moaning, with fresh blood still smeared at the corner of his mouth, while mother Wang Juhua sat at the bedside wiping away tears, continuously cursing Jiang Ran and Su Ruan.
"Mom! Dad! What happened?"
Although Su Yanhua's feelings toward her parents were complicated, seeing her father's miserable state still gave her a fright.
"Yanhua! You're finally back!" Wang Juhua seemed to have seen a savior, lunged forward to grab her daughter's hand, wailing, "It's Jiang Ran! That damn little brute! He beat your dad like this! He almost killed him!"
She embellished the story and recounted the whole incident.
Of course, she deliberately omitted the fact that they had first maliciously spread rumors, and only said that Jiang Ran had suddenly barged in and attacked for no reason.
As Su Yanhua listened, her complexion grew increasingly grim, especially when she heard that Jiang Ran had acted to protect Su Ruan, and the poisonous fire of jealousy in her heart flared fiercely.
Su Ruan!
Again, Su Ruan!
How can she be protected like this without any limits?!
Looking again at her father, wheezing on the bed and clearly badly beaten, a vicious thought instantly formed in her mind.
"Report to the police!" Su Yanhua declared resolutely, her eyes flashing with calculation and ruthlessness, "We must report to the police! Jiang Ran intentionally injured someone in broad daylight; we must arrest him!"
Wang Juhua was startled, hesitating, "Report to the police? Can that... work? The Jiang Family side..."
"What's not possible?!" Su Yanhua's voice was sharp, "He beat my dad like this, and so many neighbors saw it; the evidence is solid! No matter how powerful the Jiang Family is, can they outrank the law?!"
The more she thought about it, the more she felt it was a perfect one‑stroke‑two‑birds opportunity.
It could both harshly revenge Jiang Ran and Su Ruan, make them face a lawsuit and lose face, and perhaps even extort a compensation sum from the Jiang Family!
"Yes, report to the police!" Da Zhuang, lying on the bed, struggled to murmur his agreement, still badly beaten, feeling both fear and hatred, "We can't let that little brute get away; he should go to prison!"
Under Su Yanhua's vigorous urging, the Su couple finally made up their minds.
Wang Juhua immediately asked a neighbor for help and went to the nearby police station to file a report.
Su Ruan and Jiang Ran had just returned to the ICU entrance with clean clothes and toiletries prepared for their grandmother, when they saw Jiang Jianguo and Li Huijuan standing in the corridor with two officers in white public security uniforms, talking.
The atmosphere was noticeably tense.
Jiang Jianguo's face was ashen, his brows knit, yet his posture remained upright, maintaining the bearing of a Factory Director.
Li Huijuan wore a face of anxiety and indignation, her eyes rimmed red, evidently having just argued.
"What's going on?"
Jiang Ran's heart sank; he hurried forward, shielding Su Ruan behind him.
One of the slightly older officers looked at Jiang Ran, his tone fairly calm but with official seriousness, "You are Comrade Jiang Ran, right?"
"We received a report accusing you of deliberately injuring Comrade Da Zhuang this morning in Guihua Alley; we now need you to accompany us back to the police station for investigation."
Just as expected!
Su Ruan's gaze turned cold; standing beside Jiang Ran, she said nothing, merely watching silently.
"Cooperate with the investigation? How can my son be forced to go with you!" Li Huijuan, emotionally agitated, blocked the way in front of Jiang Ran, her voice trembling, "Comrade officers, do you understand the situation?"
"It was Da Zhuang and his wife who first spread malicious rumors, cursed my mother‑in‑law, and slandered my daughter‑in‑law!"
"My son acted in a moment of anger... and besides, my mother‑in‑law is now lying inside, her life hanging in the balance!"
She pointed at the tightly shut ICU door, and tears rose again.
Jiang Jianguo placed a hand on his wife's shoulder, signaling her to calm down, then looked at the two officers, his voice steady and firm, "Comrade officers, I am Jiang Ran's father, Jiang Jianguo."
"First, my son did strike someone, and his method was indeed wrong; we will not cover that up."
"However, there is a cause behind it."
"Da Zhuang and his wife Wang Juhua spread rumors in public, maliciously defaming my gravely ill mother and my daughter‑in‑law Su Ruan; their words were extremely vicious, and this directly provoked the conflict."
"This point can be corroborated by the many neighbors who were present at the time."
He paused briefly, then continued, "Second, my mother is currently undergoing emergency treatment for a sudden cerebral hemorrhage; her condition is critical, her life hangs in the balance."
"As a grandson, Jiang Ran is now frantic, his emotions extremely unstable."
"Under these circumstances, the Su family not only shows no sympathy, but also maliciously provokes, and their behavior itself deserves condemnation."
"Finally, I am willing to take responsibility for my son's actions; any compensation should be paid, any apology should be made."
"However, given the current special circumstances, could you please be understanding and allow the investigation to be delayed, or perhaps be conducted here? I assure you Jiang Ran will not evade responsibility."
Jiang Jianguo's words were reasonable and well‑grounded, neither servile nor arrogant.
He both acknowledged Jiang Ran's mistake in striking and highlighted the Su family's fault and the family's current special predicament, laying both logic and human sentiment on the table.
The young officer seemed somewhat wavering, looking toward the senior colleague.
The senior officer hesitated briefly, then upheld the principle, "Factory Director Jiang, Doctor Li, we understand your feelings."
"However, the complainant Da Zhuang is currently undergoing a medical examination at the hospital; the preliminary assessment indicates at least minor injuries."
"According to regulations, in injury cases, especially those resulting in actual harm, the suspect must go to the station to cooperate with the investigation and produce an official record. This is procedure."
The atmosphere froze again. Li Huijuan still wanted to say something, but Jiang Ran spoke up.
"Dad, Mom, it's okay." Jiang Ran's voice was unusually calm; his face still bore fatigue and tear stains, but his gaze had regained composure, "I'll go with the officers."
He looked at his parents, then glanced at Su Ruan beside him, pulling a somewhat awkward smile, "I acted impulsively and made a mistake; I won't shirk the responsibility that belongs to me."
"Grandma here... I'm entrusting you and RuanRuan."
"Ranran!" Li Huijuan lovingly grasped her son's hand.
Jiang Jianguo looked at his son, his eyes complex—filled with concern, helplessness, and a hint of satisfaction.
His son had indeed grown up, now knowing how to take responsibility.
He finally nodded, "Go ahead, tell the officers the truth. At home we have me, your mother, and RuanRuan."
Jiang Ran looked toward Su Ruan again, his gaze bearing a question and a barely perceptible hint of dependence.
Su Ruan stepped forward, gently smoothed his slightly rumpled collar; her motion was gentle, yet her eyes remained calm.
She whispered, "Go then, just speak the truth. Grandmother has us here; you can rest assured."
"Hmm." Jiang Ran nodded, turned to the two Public Security officers, "Comrades of Public Security, let's go."
