Chapter 53

~4 min read 685 words

Chen Xiuyue had just sent her a WeChat message a moment ago, telling her to return to the Lin Family to apologize, and then they would find a way to send her abroad.

They had truly worn away every last bit of the affection she felt for them based on blood relations.

A few minutes later, just as she was about to turn off the lights to sleep, she suddenly felt thirsty, so she picked up her glass and went downstairs.

When she had just reached the bottom floor, she discovered that Qiao Muting was unexpectedly there as well.

He was wearing a set of grey loungewear, his whole person looking casual and languid.

It was completely different from his usual dignified and cold appearance.

If the him seen at the hospital during the day could make women worship and obsess over him.

Then the Qiao Muting at night had a shimmering, alluring light in his dark eyes that could easily make one lose their soul.

Shu Xia's gaze uncontrollably paused on him for a few seconds.

"Back?"

He was holding a glass of water in his hand, and a faint scent of tea drifted over.

Shu Xia gave an affirmative sound, went to pour herself a glass of water first, and then remembering that he seemed to have some sleep issues, she opened her mouth to ask: "Is that tea you're drinking?"

"It is tea."

"Do you still have work to handle?" Shu Xia had originally wanted to remind him that drinking tea affects sleep, but then she immediately thought that if he had suffered from sleep problems for years, he should know very well what to drink and what not to drink before bed, so she didn't say anything unnecessary and changed the subject in time.

Qiao Muting's deep eyes gazed at Shu Xia, "There are indeed some matters to handle."

Shu Xia nodded, "Then I won't disturb you, goodnight."

She carried her water and walked toward the upstairs.

Just as Shu Xia was two steps away from reaching the second floor, Qiao Muting called out to her.

"Do you have nothing to say?" Qiao Muting held the tea in one hand and had his other hand in his trouser pocket, his shimmering yet slightly icy eyes looking at Shu Xia.

If she asked him for help now, he would help her for the sake of his grandmother.

Shu Xia was surprised and smiled: "I probably won't be able to get up early tomorrow morning to see Grandmother; I'll go to the hospital in the afternoon instead. By the way, a kind reminder: drinking tea at night really does affect sleep."

After speaking, she stepped onto the last two stairs without looking back, then walked back to her own room.

Standing where he was, Qiao Muting frowned slightly.

The woman acted as if nothing had happened, her emotions calm and composed.

If he hadn't seen her weak appearance when she was sick and in tears, he would have truly thought she was very strong—strong to the point of not needing anyone else's help.

He withdrew his gaze and glanced at the cup in his hand.

The tea leaves inside the cup were still swirling around.

Waves of tea fragrance drifted out.

He indeed couldn't sleep; drinking tea was merely to try and alleviate the irritability of being unable to sleep.

After putting down the teacup, he also went upstairs.

Just as he was about to push open the door to enter his room, Shu Xia's door was suddenly opened, and a face that was both pure and seductive poked out first.

Qiao Muting paused on Shu Xia's face for a few seconds, thinking to himself: This time she must be about to ask him for help, right?

Pretending not to care about anything just now was most likely a facade of composure, playing hard to get.

"Mr. Qiao, please wait a moment."

After Shu Xia finished speaking, she returned to her room.

Qiao Muting's cold brows raised imperceptibly; he was now somewhat curious about how she was going to beg him for help.
