Chapter 9

~7 min read 1,393 words

Fearing that Zhong Nainai might be anxious, Shu Xia hurriedly asked, "Which hospital are you at? I'll head over right now."

After Zhong Nainai told her the hospital, Shu Xia hung up the phone.

Looking at her family before her, she said very apologetically, "There's something going on with Zhong Nainai, I need to go see her. Once I'm done, I'll come back in a few days."

Jiang Ye and the others had all heard of this person, Zhong Nainai, who was a friend of their neighbor in the countryside, Zhong Nainai.

After Shu Xia left, Jiang Ye let out a sigh.

"The Lin Family probably hasn't been treating Xia Xia very well. As her mother, how could I not notice the changes in Xia Xia? She's hiding her worries because she doesn't want us to be concerned."

Shu Xuan was always steady; after his eyes darkened, he said, "I'll talk to Xia Xia more over these next two days."

"I'll also show more concern for Xia Xia," Shu Chen added.

Shu Hong was, after all, a high school student, young and hot-blooded, "If the Lin Family dares to bully my sister, I'll fight them to the death!"

Shu Xia arrived at the hospital quickly.

Seeing Zhong Nainai waiting anxiously in the hallway, she walked over quickly.

Arriving in front of Zhong Nainai, she said, "Grandma."

Seeing that Shu Xia had arrived, Zhong Nainai grabbed Shu Xia's hand, "Xia Xia, you don't know how terrifying it was! It was a pile-up. The car that got crushed was the one right in front of Mu Ting's car. Just a little bit more, just a little bit more and Grandma would never have seen Mu Ting again!"

On her way there, Shu Xia had seen the news on her phone.

She knew there had been a horrific pile-up on the elevated highway where over a dozen cars had crashed together; one of the cars had been crushed by an overturned tanker truck, and the people inside had died on the spot.

The people in the other cars that had crashed were almost all injured and had been sent to the hospital immediately.

The news hadn't gone into detail about the specific situation.

Seeing Zhong Nainai so heartbroken right now, it seemed Qiao Muting must have been injured quite badly.

"Don't be afraid, Grandma, Mr. Qiao will definitely be fine," Shu Xia comforted her in a gentle voice.

Zhong Nainai nodded, her eyes red.

When Qiao Muting walked out of the examination room, what he heard was exactly Shu Xia's soft and gentle voice.

Under her soothing, his grandmother's emotions had calmed down significantly.

"Mu Ting! What did the doctor say?" Seeing Qiao Muting come out, Zhong Nainai hurried over to ask.

She looked him up and down, terrified that something might have happened to her grandson.

Qiao Muting replied patiently, "All the necessary checks have been done. The doctor said there's nothing wrong, so don't worry, Grandma."

"That's good, that's good!" Zhong Nainai finally felt relieved. Suddenly thinking of something, she grabbed Shu Xia's hand and said to Qiao Muting, "Xia Xia rushed over immediately after receiving my call. You two just got your marriage certificate and haven't even held the wedding yet, and you've already been in a car accident. Look at how scared Xia Xia was. You hurry and take Xia Xia out for a meal to help her recover from the shock."

"Grandma, I..." Shu Xia wanted to say she hadn't been scared.

She hadn't been worried about anything happening to Qiao Muting; she had been worried about Zhong Nainai!

But before she could finish, Zhong Nainai winked at her and said, "Grandma is old, and this trip to the hospital has tired me out. I want to go home and get some good rest. You two hurry along now."

She had been worried and scared when she heard Mu Ting had been in an accident, but now that she saw Qiao Muting was perfectly fine, she certainly had to seize the opportunity to let the two of them spend time together!

Having lived to this age, she could naturally tell that the two young ones didn't have any feelings for each other yet.

How are feelings created?

They are cultivated!

Qiao Muting knew what his grandmother was thinking. They were already married, so he didn't mind one more meal, and he said to Shu Xia, "Does Ms. Shu have time?"

"What 'Ms. Shu'? Xia Xia is your wife. Even if you don't call her 'wife' or 'darling' or something, you should at least call her Xia Xia," Zhong Nainai said with some dissatisfaction.

Then she smiled happily at Shu Xia and said, "If you feel it's too mushy to call Mu Ting 'husband', you can just call him Mu Ting."

Qiao Muting's stern brows arched slightly, "Grandma, you should head back to the Laozhai first."

Zhong Nainai knew she couldn't say too much or push too hard, so she left with the butler.

Seeing that Zhong Nainai had already left, Shu Xia said to Qiao Muting, "Mr. Qiao must still have things to attend to, so I won't disturb you."

She knew why Qiao Muting had married her, so it was impossible for her to actually listen to Zhong Nainai and go on a date with him.

Qiao Muting's eyes were cold, and he looked somewhat surprised at her words. Just as he was about to speak, Zhang Tezhu walked over quickly.

"Qiao! I've already booked the two o'clock flight this afternoon; we need to head to the airport now."

After Zhang Tezhu walked closer, he suddenly noticed Shu Xia.

"Ms. Shu!"

He widened his eyes, immediately thinking of something very, very important.

He pinched the Yupai hanging around his neck.

"Ms. Shu, can I really keep wearing this Yupai?"

Last night it was the elevator scare, and today it was a pile-up; he couldn't help but overthink it!

Seeing that Zhang Tezhu was still wearing the Yupai, Shu Xia's cold, jade-like face darkened, "Why are you still wearing it?"

"What exactly is going on with this Yupai? Ms. Shu, could you tell me in detail? Yesterday, I thought you were just joking with me."

Zhang Tezhu didn't know if he was overthinking it now, but his hand holding the Yupai felt somewhat cold.

This chill seemed to be radiating through the Yupai.

Qiao Muting stood with one hand in his pocket, his gaze fixed on Shu Xia, remaining silent.

"This Yupai was likely stolen by tomb raiders. Furthermore, the former owner of the Yupai most likely died an unnatural death. Since it was a personal item, it carries the resentment and hatred of its former owner," Shu Xia explained briefly.

Zhang Tezhu's eyes widened again, "This... how does Ms. Shu know this?"

"If I said I guessed, would you believe me, Zhang Tezhu?" Shu Xia asked back with a smile, her eyes curving.

Being reborn wasn't without its benefits; she could more clearly sense the aura emitted by these ancient artifacts, and from that, deduce some of their pasts.

However, this kind of thing was too metaphysical; no one would believe it if she said it.

Shu Xia knew Zhang Tezhu wouldn't believe her easily.

She also knew that Qiao Muting, who had been watching her the whole time, wouldn't believe it either.

She then smiled and said, "I have other matters to attend to, I'll be going now."

She nodded toward Qiao Muting, then walked directly toward the exit of the hospital.

Zhang Tezhu came to his senses and snatched the Yupai off.

The hand holding the Yupai was trembling uncontrollably.

"This is something stolen!"

"Is Miss Shu really joking with me? She said she guessed it, but it doesn't look like it to me."

It is summer now, and ever since he started carrying the Yupai, he has rarely felt the heat.

He didn't know if it was an illusion, but he felt the Yupai was eerie and chilling!

Qiao Muting did not know what he was thinking; his pupils were deep as he glanced at the Yupai in Zhang Tezhu's hand, "Find someone to investigate the Yupai, and you will know whether she was joking with you."

"That's right!"

At the entrance of the police station.

Fu Chenyan walked out with a gloomy expression on his face.
