Chapter 86: Chen Xi
Song Mo seemed completely unaware of the girl's shyness.
He had just developed a small scheme.
"Adelin, can we take a photo together?"
Adelin was surprised, and a flush of red crossed her cheeks.
"Of course, Song Mo."
"You can take as many as you like."
"It's rare we get to visit Paris together—let's take more photos to remember this trip?"
Adelin was very proactive.
Song Mo and she took photos together in front of the Louvre, the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe, and Notre-Dame.
Song Mo revealed his true intent.
He asked Adelin.
"Adelin, these photos are so beautiful—if possible, could I share them with my family?"
"My parents would love them too!"
Indeed, Song Mo's real intention was to use these photos to deceive his father and mother.
Originally, Song Mo had considered several options in his mind, and he ultimately chose Adelin as his fictitious love interest for one simple reason.
It was because Adelin was overseas—his father and mother could never see her in person or verify the truth.
Song Mo could easily make up excuses back home.
It would spare him much trouble.
She was a perfect shield!
But…
Song Mo gave Adelin an apologetic glance.
It seemed somewhat disrespectful to her.
Yet he couldn't bring himself to say it outright.
After learning that Song Mo would show these photos to his parents, Adelin's mood visibly tensed; she kept flipping through the album, as if checking whether her appearance in the pictures was perfect enough.
She even suggested deleting a few photos she felt weren't good enough.
But Song Mo stopped her.
"Adelin, if I delete the beautiful lady in these photos, I'll feel regretful."
"You should believe in your own beauty, shouldn't you?"
Hearing this, Adelin was overjoyed.
She invited Song Mo to meet her female friends.
"Song Mo, my friends really want to meet you."
"They regretted not being at the Paris Grand Theater the night you performed."
"If it's alright, could I introduce you to them?"
"Don't worry—my friends are all like me: refined, noble ladies who know proper etiquette."
Song Mo laughed heartily.
"Haha, of course!"
"Adelin, it's my honor!"
…
Since Leng Wanqiu had beaten Chen Xi up last time.
Chen Xi had truly become a defeated dog.
His heart brimmed with resentment.
After passing out.
When Chen Xi woke again, he ignored the stench of urine on his body.
He struggled to pick up his phone.
He called Song Wanrou.
Unfortunately, no one answered.
He was already blocked on WeChat.
Chen Xi panicked.
Fear filled his heart—he couldn't understand why Song Wanrou, who had shared a night of marital intimacy with him, was now unreachable.
But he had little time to think.
Chen Xi's ribs were fractured, and his leg was broken.
He moved with great difficulty.
He had no choice but to call an ambulance.
At the hospital, when the doctor asked Chen Xi how he had gotten such injuries, Chen Xi dared not say it was Leng Wanqiu's revenge—he could only lie and claim he had fallen.
The doctor sensed something was off, but could do nothing more—treating the patient was already his utmost duty.
Lying on the hospital bed.
Chen Xi's face was extremely pale, still bearing a trace of deep fear.
He had broken ties with Leng Wanqiu!
But Song Wanrou was nowhere to be found!
How could Chen Xi not be terrified?
Still, being able to feel fear only meant Chen Xi was lucky — in the future, he probably wouldn't have the heart to be frightened by such a small thing.
Soon, he would fall into utter despair.
Chen Xi was still unwilling to give up. He gripped his phone, frantically trying to reach Song Wanrou.
But in the end, he still received no reply at all.
As Chen Xi gradually lost his composure.
The hospital's blood testing department.
A young nurse rushed out in a panic.
"No! No! The patient's blood is wrong!"
"This isn't an ordinary patient!"
She took the blood test report and went to find the chief physician.
Very quickly.
The news spread.
At first, the nurses who had helped clean Chen Xi's wounds all broke out in goosebumps, and felt a chill run through them.
They swiftly changed out of their uniforms.
Sent them off for disinfection.
And hurriedly showered, spraying alcohol all over their bodies, performing every manner of sterilization and disinfection.
Every medical staff member who had come into contact with Chen Xi turned pale.
After swiftly completing their own disinfection.
They immediately transferred the patients in the same ward as Chen Xi, and carried out a large-scale disinfection of the ward. Chen Xi was left somewhat dumbfounded by the medical staff's intense reaction.
"What are they doing?"
His expression changed instantly.
"Could Leng Wanqiu still be scheming in the shadows?"
A thick wave of fear surged into Chen Xi's heart.
The novels and movies he had watched before flashed through his mind.
The hospital — a place meant to heal and save — instantly became a terrifying white hell in Chen Xi's eyes.
The memories of being tormented by Leng Wanqiu.
Took over Chen Xi's mind.
His body began to tremble uncontrollably.
The fear inside him nearly swallowed him whole.
He could clearly sense that the medical staff's attitude toward him was very strange, and the air carried a solemn atmosphere.
No! It was a murderous atmosphere!
Chen Xi thought, not without fear:
【Leng Wanqiu's influence is actually this terrifying? She's even taken control of the entire hospital!】
【The whole hospital is clearing out unrelated people on Leng Wanqiu's orders — if I die here, it would be perfectly reasonable!】
【Not good!】
【How did I forget this! The hospital is the most dangerous place of all! It's the most convenient place to dispose of a body, and the best place to fabricate a cause of death!】
【After Leng Wanqiu kills me here, won't she just have the doctors she's bought off issue a death certificate, directly writing that I died of sudden death or something, and even the police won't know the truth!】
【I can't sit and wait for death, I have to run! I have to run!】
Chen Xi was on the verge of a complete breakdown inside.
But the closer a person is to the edge of collapse, the closer they are to madness.
At the height of his inner terror.
Chen Xi was, paradoxically, able to muster his courage.
His face was pale, cold sweat kept pouring from his forehead and back.
But he still kept his eyes shut, pretending to be asleep.
Every now and then he squinted a slit.
Peeking out at what was happening.
He sensed footsteps approaching beside him, instantly went on alert, and every muscle under the blanket tensed.
The instant a hand landed on Chen Xi's shoulder.
Chen Xi broke free like a madman.
But in the blink of an eye he was pinned down by four burly men.
He went berserk.
His limbs were restrained, and he immediately tried to open his mouth and bite someone.
"Holy shit!"
This gave the people beside him quite a fright.
They kicked Chen Xi hard in the crotch, and while he was gasping in pain, they forced his head down with all their might.
Chen Xi struggled on, but it was like a sow trussed up — he had no room left to resist.
