Chapter 42: Lu Mu's deliberate difficulties for Qin Xue
Qin Xue couldn't help but look toward Lu Chi beside her, hoping he would say a word for her.
But Lu Chi had always listened to his mother, so he could only suppress his anger and said, "Go upstairs first; the second floor isn't where you should be."
Lu Chi remembered having told them that the second floor was a rest area, not to go there, and to just take the elevator to the third floor.
He hadn't expected Qin Xue to so disregarding advice run up to the second floor.
Qin Xue didn't want to lose face in front of Lu Mu, so she quickly said, "Auntie, let me make you another cup of coffee; I'm really sorry."
Qin Xue's humble and weak image had always earned Lu Chi's protection before, but this time he didn't want her to keep wasting time here.
Lu Chi had intended to refuse, but who knew Lu Mu would surprisingly agree: "Fine, the maid is resting anyway, so please make me a cup of coffee."
Lu Mu's words clearly treated Qin Xue as a household servant.
Qin Xue, however, was oblivious and, wanting to show herself, immediately asked Lu Chi where the coffee was.
Lu Chi could only lead Qin Xue to the tea room on the second floor.
The tea room held various coffee machines, all imported, beside which sat different varieties of coffee beans, each sealed in glass jars with English labels on the packaging.
Although Qin Xue had excellent grades at school, the school didn't teach the specialized language of coffee.
Just seeing those coffee beans left Qin Xue stunned.
Since she only drank instant coffee at home, she had no idea how to operate a machine.
Lu Mu was seen sitting on a nearby sofa, apparently waiting for Qin Xue to finish the coffee.
Qin Xue bit her lip and could only step forward to familiarize herself with the machine.
But because she couldn't read the foreign text and didn't know how to brew coffee manually, after fumbling for a while she still didn't know how to turn the machine on.
Lu Chi had wanted to go help, but Lu Mu stopped him with a glance.
Lu Mu could tell at a glance what this little vixen intended to do.
Lu Mu said, "Let her handle it herself; don't interfere."
Upon hearing that, Lu Chi could only stand aside.
After struggling for a long time, the maid eventually stepped forward and personally brewed coffee for Lu Mu.
Qin Xue, unable to use the machine, had already ruined a lot of coffee beans.
"Sorry, Aunt Lu… I, I can't."
"It's fine."
Lu Mu leisurely sat on the sofa and lightly said, "Such a machine is indeed beyond your reach; what a shame—those coffee beans of mine were brought back from abroad by friends, normally weighed in two catties, but you've ruined them so they're undrinkable."
"Sorry! Auntie, I can compensate…"
"Compensate? Ruining those beans by you would cost several thousand."
Hearing that, Qin Xue froze.
What kind of coffee beans cost several thousand just from a little bit!
Lu Chi knew his mother was deliberately making things difficult for Qin Xue.
Seeing Qin Xue look to him for help, Lu Chi frowned and said, "Mom, enough."
"Since you're Lu Chi's classmate, you naturally don't need to compensate; it's getting late, Lu Chi, have the driver send your friends home—there's no spare room at this hour, and staying would be inappropriate."
Upon hearing that, Lu Chi nodded and said, "I'll have the driver get ready right away."
Qin Xue glanced at Lu Chi.
Lu Chi had clearly said earlier that the house had many guest rooms, but since outsiders couldn't stay, he'd let them play all night and then go home.
But Lu Mu had just said there were no spare rooms…
Qin Xue quickly guessed that Lu Mu looked down on her as uncultured.
Lu Chi led Qin Xue upstairs.
Qin Xue weakly said, "Lu Chi, sorry, I really didn't know that person was Aunt Lu…"
"That's enough."
Lu Chi coldly cut off Qin Xue, saying, "Go back first; I'll have the driver send you home shortly."
"Lu Chi…"
Qin Xue, somewhat panicked, grabbed Lu Chi's arm: "You're not angry, are you?"
"No."
Lu Chi lightly said, "You all head back early; I'll have someone see you off."
After saying that, Lu Chi pulled his hand back.
Qin Xue stared at Lu Chi's cold demeanor and couldn't help but be startled.
Lu Chi… could he also be looking down on me?
Having gone downstairs and instructed the driver, Lu Chi felt somewhat vexed.
"Mom, why are you treating my classmate like this today?"
Lu Chi went to Lu Mu's room, but she was unmoved, saying, "How did I treat her? I merely wanted her to see the difference between her and you."
"Qin Xue is a pretty well-behaved girl; although her family is poor, she's always worked hard, and her grades in Yi Ban are excellent—haven't you often let me play with high-achieving classmates?"
"What good are good grades? Didn't you see the way she looks at you? She's obviously trying to seduce you."
Lu Chi didn't believe Qin Xue was that kind of girl; he coldly said, "Qin Xue isn't like Su Yun Jiao, Mom—don't speak like that about my classmate."
"What's wrong with you? I've already let you bring those poor classmates home, and I've given you plenty of face, but now you keep saying you don't like Su Yun Jiao and want to call off the engagement—I haven't settled accounts with you yet!"
Lu Mu glared at Lu Chi and said, "Speak—are you refusing to marry Su Yun Jiao because of this girl?"
Upon hearing that, Lu Chi fell silent.
"I knew it! The last time you hooked up was also with this girl, right?"
Lu Mu angrily slammed the table and stood up: "I've spent so long preparing your engagement to Su Yun Jiao, and you— for a worthless vixen— want to break it off? Are you crazy?"
Xiao Xue isn't some fox spirit, she's a very nice girl! Mom, I don't allow you to say that about her!
Lu Chi frowned, then directly slammed the door and left.
Lu Chi! You!
Lu Mu felt her chest tighten with anger.
This son, is he really trying to anger her to death?
After returning home.
Qin Xue looked at the small, shabby house under seventy square meters, then went back to her room and lowered her head to glance at the high-end incense in her hand.
This incense, even the cheapest online costs eight hundred per bottle, but wealthy families use it to fumigate toilets.
Qin Xue bit her lip.
Is this the difference between the rich and the poor?
Thinking of Lu Mu's deliberate difficulties today, Qin Xue clenched her teeth.
She must win Lu Chi's heart, and in the future live in a house like this, rather than be cramped in a seventy-square-meter small dwelling.
Thinking this, Qin Xue took out her phone and sent a text to Lu Chi.
Lu Chi, can you come out tomorrow evening? I have something I want to say to you.
