Chapter 687: Meet Again on the Plane
Chen Yang felt that Goat City was no place to linger. If Chu Min came back for revenge, the Chu family would still come looking for trouble. He'd had enough of being threatened by those in power.
Can't afford to offend them? Then just stay away!
The next morning, he called Ou Yangsheng to brief him on the Goat City branch's follow‑up work plan, then boarded the flight to Modu.
As it turned out, he ran into Chu Min again…
"Chen Yang, you don't like me, do you? How did you end up chasing me onto the plane?"
"Don't get the wrong idea. I'm going to Modu on business—I truly didn't know you were on this flight too…"
"Really? Looks like we've got quite a bit of fate between us. Why don't you think about it again?"
"Big sis, just leave me alone! Yesterday your grandfather almost cracked me!"
"Haha, really? That kind of thing happens?"
"Forget it. Anyway I already promised your grandfather I wouldn't have anything to do with you. Once we get to Modu, we'll go our separate ways."
Chen Yang didn't want any further ties with the Chu family, so he simply laid his cards on the table with Chu Min.
Chu Min's eyes flared at once upon hearing that. "Chen Yang, how can you do this? We agreed I'd handle the Modu business, and now you're backing out? Or do you think I'm easy to bully?"
Chen Yang hadn't expected her to mind the Modu work; he laughed helplessly and said, "Miss Chu, you're not short of money—no need to suffer here for my sake."
Chu Min said solemnly, "Living off savings will eventually run dry. Since you don't want to be my long‑term meal ticket, I'll have to make it on my own."
Chen Yang agreed with her point, but still didn't want her too close. "Miss Chu, you've got money—you can invest and start your own business. Why suffer in my little temple?"
Chu Min laughed, "Starting a business is too risky. Following you, you earn money if you profit, and you still get paid if you lose—why not?"
Chen Yang asked him, "Are your grandfather and parents okay with you going to Modu?"
Chu Min gave Chen Yang a strange look and said, "Why would I need their permission to work in Modu?"
Chen Yang sighed, "Your family's elders all oppose you getting too close to me. Now that you're working in Modu, how am I supposed to explain this to them?"
Chu Min shrugged, "How to explain? That's your problem—I just show up for work and collect my pay."
Chen Yang pulled out his phone and called Chu Ning, hoping she could talk some sense into Chu Min—only to find the line constantly engaged.
Chu Min, sitting beside Chen Yang, saw it was a call to Chu Ning and laughed, "Don't bother—Chu Ning has already blacklisted your number."
Chen Yang had guessed that might be the case, and resignedly put his phone away.
He actually didn't hate Chu Ning's coldness either—after all, he'd originally gotten together with her to borrow the Chu family's strength against the Hu family.
During the time he was with Chu Ning, official pressure was indeed much less.
Now that they've broken up, at least the Chu family hasn't openly turned against him on the surface. That counts as having sentiment and righteousness.
So, when dealing with Chu Min, Chen Yang didn't dare take it too seriously.
If he really managed to provoke that woman's frenzy, who knows what size basket he'd end up stirring?
Moreover, he couldn't even find a place to cry injustice.
All the way, silence.
After arriving in Modu, Chen Yang didn't go to Tangchenyipin with Chu Min; instead, he found a hotel near Wang Lei's company to stay in.
Since Chu Min was going to stay in Modu, let her stay there. If I can't afford to provoke her, I can retreat to Xingcheng.
Upon hearing Chen Yang had arrived, Wang Lei specially set up a welcome banquet at his hotel.
"General Manager Wang, my company in Xingcheng has been swamped this year. Over on the Modu side, I'll have to rely on you to put in extra effort."
"Director Chen, rest assured—I'll make sure Chu Min and I get the project done right." Wang Lei had conducted a very detailed investigation of Chen Yang, knowing he preferred to be a hands‑off manager and wouldn't push him. In fact, Chen Yang not meddling in company affairs lets him perform better.
Chen Yang told him, "General Manager Wang, in a few days we might have game engineers from South Korea reporting to our company. You must keep it secret—don't let our competitors find out."
Wang Lei's eyes lit up. "Director Chen, N Company suddenly lost three game‑development engineers earlier this year. Was it you who hired them away?"
Chen Yang lowered his voice. "Wang Lei, don't go spreading rumors like that. I headhunted these people at high cost from a search firm. Whether they quit N Company or not is none of my business. As long as they're capable, I suggest you also not worry about their past."
Wang Lei immediately grasped Chen Yang's meaning. "These people were headhunted, so even if we end up in court, it won't involve Three Stone Technology Company."
Of course, he certainly couldn't let the other side know the people were at Three Stone Technology Company. After all, it's better to avoid extra trouble.
"Director Chen, as long as they're capable, I'll definitely make good use of them."
Seeing that Wang Lei had no objection to his scouting talent in South Korea, Chen Yang breathed a sigh of relief.
Merchants chase profit; if you pass up useful talent just to save a friend's face, then Wang Lei is destined never to amount to much.
"General Manager Wang, I suggest you send people to talk with the world's major automobile companies about copyright cooperation—especially those tied to racing games. Only by securing their licenses can our game hope to surpass the competition and beat Kart Rider in content."
"No problem. I'll work out the details at tomorrow morning's meeting. Director Chen, will you be there?"
"I won't be coming. From now on, if anything comes up, just discuss it with Chief Chu."
Thinking of Chu Min gave Chen Yang a headache again. He told Wang Lei, "Chief Chu has also come to Modu. You really should go greet her today—maybe this time she'll change her impression of you."
Wang Lei let out a bitter laugh. "Forget it! People as rich as you get discarded by the Chu family's women. My family's also in trade, but we're nowhere near your level—how could we ever be worthy of Miss Chu?"
Chen Yang hadn't expected his breakup with Chu Ning to affect Wang Lei's view of love—it was a bit regrettable. If Wang Lei could actually win Chu Min, he'd indirectly be freed as well.
"General Manager Wang, don't be too pessimistic. Chu Min isn't like Chu Ning—if you're willing to invest, you'll definitely see returns."
Wang Lei's head shook like a rattle drum. "Director Chen, forget it. She doesn't even look up to the Zhu family—how could she ever look at me?"
Chen Yang sighed. In the face of power, money really does look insignificant.
Given the old Chu patriarch's temperament, if Wang Lei dared to pester Chu Min relentlessly, he'd surely end up with nothing good.
But if Wang Lei could focus on his career, that would actually not be a bad thing for Chen Yang.
As long as his mind stays on game development, the company's racing game will hit the market all the sooner.
