Chapter 137: Kicked Out of the Department
Just as Zhou Qing was being roasted on a spit, feeling awkward and at a loss, the door suddenly opened, and a female student walked in with a swagger.
This was the Art Department's famous cold beauty, Chen Xiaowei, a junior this year, with ear-length short hair, a face as calm as an ancient well, and deep eyes that betrayed not a hint of emotion.
She was wearing a short gray sweater paired with dark blue jeans, and her stride was vigorous, giving her a dashing and heroic air.
Noticing the silence in the room and the indescribably strange atmosphere, she looked at the livid Zhou Qing standing there, and then at the focus of everyone's gaze: Shen Yan, who was leaning back in his chair, looking lighthearted and breezy.
Chen Xiaowei had a few guesses.
This guy who never does anything without a profit is actually quite interesting!
Seeing Chen Xiaowei arrive, Zhou Qing immediately began to complain: "Minister Chen, look at the kind of people you've recruited; they have absolutely no manners."
Seeing him smear Shen Yan, Yu Youwei immediately stood up and recounted what had happened: "Minister Chen, Vice Minister Zhou is really going too far. He won't even let people say two words; his airs are bigger than the Politburo's."
"I suggest expelling this kind of person from the Art Department, otherwise he will only bring shame to our department."
Chen Xiaowei shot Zhou Qing a sideways glance and said coldly: "I don't know when you started picking up these foul habits, becoming more and more like a stranger. It seems the Art Department is ultimately too small to contain a 'Great Buddha' like you."
"Please leave immediately; I will explain the situation to the Youth League Committee later."
What? She wanted to kick him out?
Zhou Qing simply couldn't believe his ears.
Having known her for two years, although he had long known this woman was decisive and merciless, there was no need to take things this far, right?
He intended to take the civil service exam and pursue a political career in the future; after all, some units had clear requirements in this regard, and being a student cadre during his time at school was his main purpose for joining the Student Union.
Leaving so dejectedly now would likely have a huge impact on his future.
Therefore, Zhou Qing had to lower his head and say softly: "Minister Chen, this time it was my fault. I will definitely change in the future. I hope you can give me another chance."
Chen Xiaowei, however, had made up her mind: "This hasn't happened just once or twice. I believe you can shine just as brightly in other departments."
"Can we really not discuss this further?"
"No!"
Upon hearing this, Zhou Qing's face turned livid. He glared fiercely at Shen Yan, then swept his gaze around the room. Knowing that he had completely lost face, he turned and left without looking back.
"Bang!" The door was slammed shut.
Everyone looked at each other, their gazes locking onto a certain someone.
The other Vice Minister, Zuo Qingfeng—the scholarly man in glasses—was also stunned for a long while. He had originally just wanted to watch Zhou Qing make a fool of himself, but he hadn't expected things to escalate so much.
A Vice Minister was fired just like that.
Shen Yan rubbed his nose. He hadn't expected it to go this far either, but since things had reached this point, whatever happens, happens.
This Chen Xiaowei was actually quite interesting.
Chen Xiaowei didn't take the matter to heart at all. She sat in the main seat and first asked Shen Yan to introduce himself.
Shen Yan stood up and said sonorously: "Hello everyone, my name is Shen Yan, a freshman in the Law major. My specialty is dancing. I have a nickname called 'Brother Rice Noodle', but I won't take advantage of you all; you can just call me by my name. I'm very happy to be working with everyone."
"Also, to add, I'm actually quite easygoing; everything that just happened was an accident."
"Clap, clap, clap!"
Applause broke out below, and his humorous remarks brought smiles to many faces.
Then, Chen Xiaowei began to distribute the specific work for the upcoming Welcome Gala to everyone, based on the guidelines set at the last meeting.
Because it was the university's Art Department, they needed to organize and plan the entire process of the Welcome Gala, and were responsible for selecting the best programs, arranging the venue, and other trivial matters, to bring the audience the best visual experience possible.
The workload was quite enormous.
However, this had nothing to do with Shen Yan. He was just here to slack off, only wanting an excuse for skipping classes and asking for leave.
Chen Xiaowei knew this perfectly well and acted as if this person didn't exist when assigning tasks.
This made Shen Yan particularly satisfied.
The other committee members were full of suspicion, unable to understand how, as a member of the Art Department, Shen Yan could be like an outsider, playing on his phone under the table, while the usually stern Minister turned a blind eye to it and didn't even assign him any tasks.
It was just absurd!
An hour later, the meeting ended. After Chen Xiaowei kept Shen Yan behind alone, she leaned back in her chair, crossed her legs elegantly, and said something shocking: "Shen Yan, are you interested in being a Vice Minister of the Art Department?"
???
Shen Yan was stunned for a moment. After confirming he hadn't misheard, he asked in confusion: "I'm just a freshman, I don't know anything. Why would the Minister suddenly have this idea?"
"Heh! I've never heard of any freshman daring to talk back to a Vice Minister to their face, and so articulately, even bringing up the Politburo."
"Although I wasn't there at the time, I can imagine how bizarre the scene was—a Vice Minister being choked into silence while a freshman was there chatting and laughing."
Chen Xiaowei covered her red lips and smiled beautifully; the cold-as-frost demeanor from earlier was nowhere to be seen.
Shen Yan raised an eyebrow, unable to understand why this girl had two faces in front of and behind people, but he didn't want to delve into it, only saying that his abilities were limited and he was content to just loaf around in the department.
"Suit yourself then, but you'll have to put in some effort for the Welcome Gala to make our Art Department famous." Chen Xiaowei was just mentioning it casually, finding the person interesting.
"Easy enough!"
The conversation ended there.
Walking out of the meeting room, Yu Youwei hadn't left yet. She was leaning against the pristine white wall, kicking her legs back and forth, looking somewhat nonchalant.
The vintage floral loose sweater she wore didn't pick a body type at all; draped over her, it exuded a pure, girlish style, and the denim skirt was a versatile piece for all seasons.
The lights in the corridor were soft and dim, spilling over her like a thin veil. This faint light perfectly outlined her pure and moving face; her skin was as white as snow, and her eyes were clear and bright, like sparkling jewels.
"Pi Yan, did Minister Chen keep you behind specifically because of what happened earlier?" Noticing Shen Yan coming out, Yu Youwei asked impatiently.
