Chapter 18: The Little Electric Scooter
The ceiling fan in the dormitory seemed to have some years on it; as it spun, it emitted a "creak, creak" sound, as if an elderly person were recounting stories of the past.
The breeze it blew was weak and feeble, and even with the few grown men stripped to the waist, they were still so hot that their bodies were covered in a sheen of sweat.
Facing the uniform, inquisitive gazes of his roommates, Shen Yan denied it flatly: "How could a single dog like me have a girlfriend? That was just my neighbor, she's also in Law Class 1. I'll introduce you all later."
"Is the girl pretty?"
"Is she single?"
"Begging for an introduction!"
"Holy crap! A top-tier beauty!"
At the entrance of the dormitory building, Lin Yang, who had been craning his neck in anticipation, suddenly let out an exclamation, his expression dazed.
The others followed his gaze, and the next moment, they were all stunned into silence.
Three girls were seen stepping out from the women's dormitory. Among them, Wu Yue'er was the most eye-catching: at 1.8 meters tall, she had a graceful figure and fair skin, and the moment she stuck out her tongue, it was particularly heart-stirring.
On the left was Yu Youwei, her pretty face both innocent and alluring. Shen Yan had not seen the other girl before; she was 1.6 meters tall, wore light makeup, and was dressed quite fashionably in a pink crew-neck shirt and white shorts.
She could be rated a six-out-of-ten beauty.
She was likely Yu Youwei's roommate as well.
Luo Qiqi was not there; she was probably busy promoting campus cards.
The moment he saw Wu Yue'er, Lin Yang whispered in Shen Yan's ear: "I'm done for, I'm done for, Old Shen, I think I've encountered love."
"I won't marry anyone but her in this lifetime."
Shen Yan had a lollipop in his mouth, his expression slightly strange. The Huniu from the Northeast was indeed pretty, but wasn't it a bit too rash to make such a decision so early?
He had heard that the only domestic violence center for men in the country was in Shenyang; were you sure you wouldn't be beaten to death if you married such a woman? Besides, where did you get the confidence that she would even be interested in you?
"Lao Lin, she's about 5cm taller than you. If she wears high heels, your frame..."
Lin Yang's expression was firm: "In the face of love, height is not a distance."
At this moment, the three girls had already arrived. Yu Youwei greeted Shen Yan, and the boys finally realized that this was the person they had been waiting for.
Everyone was of the same age, so they introduced themselves to each other, which counted as a preliminary acquaintance.
Shen Yan also learned the name of the other girl, Xiao Chuchu, who was from Jiangxi.
At close range, the sense of oppression brought by Wu Yue'er's height surged instantly. Among the boys, Shen Yan was in a league of his own at 1.85 meters, Lin Yang and Tang Song were 1.75 meters, Zhu Baoping was 1.63 meters, and Liu Haijun was 1.70 meters.
None of the boys dared to get close to Wu Yue'er, otherwise, their self-esteem couldn't take it; it was too discouraging.
Only Lin Yang forged ahead, walking straight up to greet her: "Hi! Student Wu, you might not have remembered just now, so let me introduce myself again. My name is Lin Yang, the 'Yang' from 'setting sail', I'm from Shanghai."
"What for? Trying to hit on me?"
Wu Yue'er glanced at Lin Yang, her words startling.
"Cough, cough, cough!" The group was choked by this straightforward line of questioning.
Although it was a fact, did you have to be so direct?
"I... I..." Lin Yang was caught off guard, his cheeks turning red. After a long while, he stammered: "I... I just think you're quite... quite special, and I wanted to get to know you. We're all classmates, how about... we add each other on QQ?"
"Adding QQ is fine, but you'd better not harbor any other ideas. I don't even look at anyone under two meters tall," Wu Yue'er said with a straight face.
The others listened in astonishment, and the boys awkwardly rubbed their noses.
Lin Yang didn't mind. After adding her on QQ, he looked like a child who had been rewarded with candy, wearing a happy smile.
Sincerity can move even metal and stone.
He believed that one day he would move Wu Yue'er.
"Student Wu, what are your hobbies? Do you play games?"
"I do, I play Dota quite a bit." Wu Yue'er became interested instantly; she wasn't like other girls who only liked to binge-watch shows, go shopping, or watch movies.
"What a coincidence, I was just playing it earlier. Let's team up sometime."
The boys, including Shen Yan, all looked at Lin Yang with admiration. A true warrior dares to face a bleak life and dares to look directly at dripping blood.
Influenced by him, Zhu Baoping, who had taken a liking to Xiao Chuchu upon first sight, also took the initiative to strike up a conversation: "Student Xiao, hello..."
Yu Youwei frowned slightly, leaned over to Shen Yan, and said: "Silent one, are you boys all this desperate? What's so good about dating? Shouldn't university be focused on studies?"
Shen Yan spread his hands and said there was no help for it; youth was just like that. Except for a very small group, most people hoped to meet that 'someone' during the best years of their lives and have a relationship where both sides run toward each other.
"And you?"
"Me?" Shen Yan paused and said he hadn't thought about it yet. Fate was a very mysterious thing; who knew, maybe he would meet them in the next second.
Yu Youwei was shaken, her eyes gazing at the horizon, not knowing what she was thinking.
Hangzhou University covered an area of over five thousand mu and was divided into East and West campuses. The Law School was on the East Campus, and logistics were located on the West Campus.
The group walked for a full twenty minutes before reaching their destination. Precisely because of this, Shen Yan made a firm decision to buy a small electric scooter so that his daily commute to class and travel would be more convenient.
After topping up his meal card, Shen Yan said goodbye to the group and wandered alone along Zijin Road. This was indeed the most prosperous Xihu District in Hangzhou; malls, hotels, restaurants, and entertainment venues could be seen everywhere, and there was even a Baccarat KTV at the school gate.
Walking south along Zijin Road, it wasn't long before Haoya Electric Vehicle Shop came into view. Electric scooters of various styles and colors were displayed at the entrance, a dazzling array that left one's head spinning. Posters of electric scooters hung on the walls, showcasing their features and advantages.
One of the electric scooters was particularly eye-catching; its body was a bright red, paired with black wheel hubs and a white seat, making it look exceptionally dynamic and vibrant.
Shen Yan felt a bit tempted, so he asked: "Boss, what are the specs on this bike? Could you introduce it to me?"
With business at his door, the boss naturally welcomed him with a smile: "Handsome, this bike uses a lithium battery..."
"The battery isn't falsely labeled, is it?"
"That's impossible. In our business, we value reputation."
"Can I take it for a test drive?"
Riding the small electric scooter, Shen Yan felt its driving experience. The power, brakes, and shock absorption were all up to par. Shen Yan didn't have high requirements for a small electric scooter; as long as it met his daily needs, that was enough.
After some haggling, Shen Yan finally obtained ownership of the small electric scooter for the price of two thousand yuan.
With nothing to do, Shen Yan rode the scooter around the neighborhood, passed through Gourmet Street, and went as far as the Communication University of China, which counted as getting a rough idea of the surrounding environment.
