Chapter 23: Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing
The sky near six o'clock had already faded, but it hadn't turned completely dark yet.
The school corridors were sparsely populated; occasionally, a couple of students would walk by clutching books, or a young couple would snuggle as they headed off-campus, preparing to start their evening activities.
For freshmen, September is a vibrant and energetic month.
Yet the upperclassmen go their own way, forging ahead for their ideals.
Upon arriving at the classroom, the group stood there, instantly attracting countless gazes. It was mainly because the quality of the few girls was too high; there wasn't a girl among them who wasn't jealous, with expressions that practically read: I hate beauties, and I hate that I am not a beauty myself.
There were 36 students in the class in total, and almost everyone had arrived. Law majors generally have more women than men, and this class was no exception.
The male-to-female ratio was 14:22.
After a quick scan of the classmates, the quality was just average.
Shen Yan couldn't help but sigh; indeed, the situation in Dormitory 602 where beauties were clustered together was absolutely a one-in-ten-thousand exception.
The neat and simple hairstyles were quite pleasant to look at, though; it was worthy of a higher institution, unlike the streets outside, where everyone had non-mainstream, bizarre styles.
It was truly hard to look at.
After all, having been reborn from over a decade in the future, his aesthetic standards were still stuck in that phase.
After finding a seat and sitting down, Lin Yang immediately pulled Wu Yue'er over, talking incessantly about the charm of the game LOL and his own glorious achievements that afternoon.
He even presented the hero skill translations he had worked hard on with both hands.
"Classmate Wu, I'll carry you to victory after the class meeting."
Shen Yan rolled his eyes at Lin Yang, "Didn't you say we were going out for a group meal later? What's this, planning to stand us brothers up?"
Lin Yang slapped his forehead, nearly forgetting about that.
Wu Yue'er said that their dormitory was also going to have a meal later. Lin Yang's eyes lit up, and he hurriedly suggested that since everyone was classmates, they might as well have a joint dinner, and he would treat.
That bold and heroic appearance of his—don't say it, it was actually quite charming.
Wu Yue'er didn't mind; she mentioned the matter to her roommates, and upon hearing that a wealthy benefactor was treating, they all clapped and cheered.
Except for that cold beauty.
But she only frowned slightly, and in the end, she didn't say anything more.
The matter of the dinner was thus settled.
Shen Yan nudged Lin Yang with his elbow and whispered, "Lao Lin, is your living allowance enough? Don't puff yourself up to look like a fat man; if it really doesn't work out, I'll find an excuse to slip away later and say we'll meet another time."
"It's a piece of cake!" Lin Yang lifted his chin and said with great spirit.
In reality, he was drumming his fingers in his heart; he only had a little over a thousand left in his pocket. If the place they picked later was too expensive, he would really have to eat instant noodles at the end of the month.
But since the words were already out, taking them back would be a slap to his own face.
Absolutely not; he would hold on even if it killed him.
Shen Yan saw through his fierce-on-the-outside, weak-on-the-inside act and couldn't help but think of a modified lyric: If you hadn't suddenly broken into my heart, I would have at least two hundred more in my pocket at the end of the month.
Girlfriend = Money-draining.
Not long after, the counselor Huang Shuren walked in with a leisurely gait. The classroom instantly fell silent; everyone was still in the high school phase and felt an innate awe toward teachers.
However, just as Huang Shuren stepped onto the podium, an accident happened suddenly; his right foot tripped, and he stumbled forward for a meter, nearly falling down.
"Hahaha!"
The students below burst into laughter.
This counselor, who looked so refined, didn't seem very reliable.
Huang Shuren was incredibly embarrassed at this moment; he straightened up, adjusted his glasses, and feigned composure, "I just saw the atmosphere was a bit dull, so I made a little fun on purpose. It seems the effect was quite good."
The students all had expressions of "I believe you," though the atmosphere did indeed become much more relaxed.
Next, Huang Shuren wrote a QQ group number on the blackboard and asked everyone to join the group, then began to speak. There were two themes for today's class meeting: first, since everyone was new, safety issues must be taken seriously.
Second, there would be a period of military training before classes officially started; the military training uniforms would be distributed tomorrow, and the training would officially begin the day after.
And before that, they needed to elect a temporary class monitor to assist the counselor in managing the class.
"Next, we will conduct self-introductions. Start from this row on the right and come up to the stage one by one. Those interested in being this temporary class monitor, speak up boldly."
"Come, let's start with this female student."
Following that, students went up to the stage one after another to introduce themselves.
"Hello everyone, my name is Yu Youwei, I'm from Wencheng, Zhe Province. I usually like singing. I believe a class monitor is meant to serve the collective..."
Yu Youwei was as ambitious as ever, planning to run for class monitor as soon as she started university.
"Hello everyone, I'm Luo Qiqi, from Fuding, Min Province. I know everything inside and outside the school; if you have any questions, you can ask me. Also, for those who haven't applied for a campus card..."
"Hello everyone, I'm Chen Shanni, from Shanghai..."
Lin Yang below felt a jolt of energy and said happily, "Lao Shen, that cold girl is also from Shanghai."
Shen Yan glanced at the slightly nervous Chen Shanni on stage; her eyes were drifting, her tone was stiff, as if she were reciting lines, and her hands were subconsciously twisting the hem of her shirt.
This feeling of déjà vu... it was almost exactly the same as his former self.
This girl didn't seem cold; she was introverted and socially anxious, deliberately putting on an unapproachable front.
"Hello everyone, I'm Yuan Mingqing, from Guizhou..."
Hearing the introduction of Yu Youwei's last roommate, Shen Yan's expression couldn't help but become ambiguous.
"Tang, you're called Tang Song, and that girl is called Yuan Mingqing. Put together, it's Tang Song Yuan Ming Qing. Doesn't this count as fate destined by heaven?"
"Damn, I wouldn't have thought of that if Shen Yan hadn't said it. This is too coincidental." Wu Yue'er in the front row also heard this.
Lin Yang, seeing the fun and not fearing it was too big, started to stir things up: "Tang, go for it! This girl is a perfect match for you."
Tang Song, however, stared blankly at Yuan Mingqing on the stage. Damn! Something's not right; why does she look more pleasing to the eye the more I look at her?
Oh no! It's the feeling of a heartbeat.
There's a chance! Seeing Tang Song's expression, the onlookers couldn't help but think of playing matchmaker.
If it succeeded, it would be a fine story to tell if it got out.
Not long after Yuan Mingqing returned, he "accidentally" heard this meme about Tang Song, Yuan, Ming, and Qing, and subconsciously looked toward Tang Song; precisely and accurately, their eyes met.
Yuan Mingqing's little face turned red.
The onlookers had auntie-like smiles on their faces, feeling as if they were watching an idol drama.
The self-introduction segment ended, and because they didn't know each other, Huang Shuren skipped the voting and election segment and made a direct appointment.
"Then, let classmate Yu Youwei serve as the temporary class monitor for our class; we will begin the class cadre election after military training ends."
To speak the truth, Huang Shuren had hoped the class monitor would be a boy, as it would be easier to communicate, but they were all salted fish, or rather, uninterested, and not a single one stood up to run.
"Clap, clap, clap!" Applause erupted from below.
The class meeting was about finished, and Huang Shuren said, "Class monitor, stay behind; the others can leave first."
Consequently, the students left one after another.
