Chapter 259: No One Is Perfect
The sun sets behind Xishan, and people meet after dusk.
As night falls and weary birds return to their nests, the residents of the residential complex begin to head home; the clamor quietly subsides, replaced by a sense of tranquility and warmth.
The Shen Family kitchen.
Meeting those expectant eyes, Shen Yan did not have the heart to refuse; he lowered his head to kiss her on the cheek and said softly, "Then get along well with An Qi, and don't make things difficult for me."
Wu Yueer nodded her little head incessantly, as obediently as a chick pecking at rice.
Once Hao Anqi came out of the bathroom, Shen Yan organized his words and said, "An Qi, Wu Yueer is always perfunctory with her studies, and she's currently running around in a panic. I was thinking of having her stay here to review and guiding her a bit while I'm at it."
Hao Anqi had no objections to this and readily extended an invitation: "Yue'er, you probably haven't eaten yet, right? Why don't you eat something with us first? It won't be too late to review after you've eaten."
"Then I won't stand on ceremony with you two." Wu Yueer agreed with a grin and took the initiative to step forward and take the mop from her hand.
"Let me handle this; if I'm going to be eating and drinking for free, I should at least do some work."
Hao Anqi couldn't refuse her, so she let her be; she then ran into the bathroom to grab a rag and started wiping down the room, while Wu Yueer actively sidled up to her to get on her good side.
"An Qi, you wouldn't believe it—right after class ended, Shen Yan was pulled aside by the journalism students for an interview, and the content was so interesting."
"Oh? What kind of questions did they ask?"
"The host asked Shen Yan, 'With so many girls in school showing off their thighs in the summer, what is your take on it?' Guess how Shen Yan answered?"
"How did he answer?"
"Shen Yan said he watches without blinking."
"Honk honk honk!" Far from being angry, Hao Anqi laughed with a sound like a goose; her little boyfriend was just like that, always being cheeky every now and then. Perhaps this is what they call "women love bad boys."
In any case, she couldn't bring herself to dislike him at all.
She continued to ask what other questions were in the interview.
Sure enough, her little boyfriend had been cheeky for several questions in a row; one could imagine how spectacular the host's expression must have been at the time.
It was probably enough to make the host's head explode.
Hao Anqi was equally curious about the answer to the final question, so she asked, "Shuai Yan, what is your childhood nickname, anyway?"
Shen Yan coughed dryly and said that it wasn't important.
Wu Yueer guessed with a charming smile that it must be something like Dog Egg, Dog Leftover, or Lucky Butt.
In the countryside, it is widely believed that the uglier a childhood nickname is, the better it can ward off evil, and the easier it is to raise the child; thus, an ancient perpetual calendar was born.
It recorded the methods and rules for choosing childhood nicknames, with different birth dates corresponding to different names.
Hao Anqi couldn't help but giggle.
The truth was likely just that, which was why her little boyfriend was too embarrassed to speak of it.
Shen Yan rolled his eyes and retorted, "You guys are the ones who are Big Ya, Second Ya, and Silly Girl."
"Nyah nyah nyah! He's flustered!"
"He's really flustered!"
The Chen family next door.
Three delicate faces sat around the dining table; their eyes were focused and determined, occasionally furrowing in deep thought as if wrestling with a difficult problem, or murmuring to themselves as if repeatedly chewing on the mysteries of knowledge.
Looking at a message on her phone, Chen Shanni spoke up to break the quiet atmosphere: "Shen Yan and Hao Anqi next door are getting ready to have hot pot, and Yue'er is going to stay there to mooch a meal, so she told us not to wait for her."
"Damn! This girl actually abandoned her sisters to eat alone."
Luo Qiqi complained indignantly, her eyes full of envy.
Yu Youwei's focus was different from Luo Qiqi's; she cared more about that vixen not studying properly for finals and pestering Shen Yan in every way possible.
Because of this, how could she bring herself to go find Shen Yan?
So annoying!
Chen Shanni rubbed her slightly throbbing temples and said in a gentle tone, "There are still some ingredients in the fridge. Why don't I whip up a couple of simple dishes, and we can just eat something casual at home?"
Ever since moving to the Danqingyuan Residential Complex, Chen Shanni had learned plenty from Wu Yueer, including life skills, cooking techniques, and more.
After a long period of study and practice, she had now mastered a certain level of culinary skill; it wasn't necessarily gourmet, but it was more than enough to handle daily meals.
Luo Qiqi said, "How about I do it? My cooking is actually pretty good."
Hearing this, Yu Youwei couldn't help but widen her almond-shaped eyes.
To think that a "goody-two-shoes" and young lady from a wealthy family like her could actually cook.
Thinking about it, among the six people in the dorm, everyone except herself knew how to cook, and Yu Youwei couldn't help but feel like she was a good-for-nothing.
The Shen Family dining room.
The three of them sat around the dining table.
The steaming hot pot on the table was bubbling constantly, and wisps of white smoke escaped from the gaps in the lid, dancing lightly in the air like nimble white snakes.
Gradually, the entire room was enveloped in the fragrance of the hot pot, making one's mouth water.
Under Shen Yan's pacification, Wu Yueer didn't cause any more trouble; she sat there honestly eating and drinking, and deliberately tried to get on Hao Anqi's good side.
She complimented Hao Anqi on her great figure, saying it must be a 36D.
Regarding these magnificent assets, Hao Anqi had mixed feelings: she was happy that her little boyfriend was obsessed with them, but worried about the burden of carrying them around daily.
She was lively and cheerful by nature, and said generously, "Being too big is actually quite tiring. Someone like you, Yue'er, is just right. Plus, you have a tall figure and a pair of straight, well-proportioned long legs—you have advantages everywhere. You're simply a favorite of the heavens; you're making me so envious."
Wu Yueer replied modestly, "Not at all. Others often tease me behind my back for being a 'big bamboo pole' and say it'll be hard for me to find a partner later. Your proportions are the most perfect; whether being carried on a back or held in an embrace, you're just right. No wonder Shen Yan likes you so much."
The two of them flattered each other there, both feeling envious of the other.
As the saying goes, no one is perfect; who could possibly possess all the advantages in one body?
During their chat, upon learning that Hao Anqi had a constitution that didn't gain weight, Wu Yueer was thoroughly envious. She talked about how difficult it was to be a model and how one had to constantly pay attention to body management.
Especially when it came to being restrained with food.
For this reason, she practiced yoga and fat-loss exercises quite often; she even lifted the hem of her T-shirt to show off her ant-waist and abdominal muscles, all of which were the fruits of her hard work.
"Wow! Yue'er, your curves are truly beautiful."
Hao Anqi could not help but reach out and touch her, for even as a girl, she was mesmerized by such a seductive figure, and she immediately asked Wu Yueer for advice on how to train for such a great body.
There were many such tutorials online, so Wu Yueer shared a few videos she had saved with Hao Anqi, telling her that with persistent practice, there would eventually come a day when it would bear fruit.
After a long, pleasant chat, the two women had become as close as sisters.
