Chapter 34: Frequent Funny Moments

~8 min read 1,492 words

"Old Shen, do you think Yue'er is cute? She actually can't tell left from right."

"Hahaha!"

On the track of the sports field, Lin Yang laughed as he ran, laughing so hard he was out of breath.

Shen Yan couldn't help but laugh either.

In fact, this phenomenon with Wu Yueer was not an isolated case; looking across the entire sports field, such scenes could be seen everywhere. Some people were making mistakes due to nervousness, while others truly had some kind of obstacle.

The reasons for this were unknown.

Actually, funny moments during military training were everywhere. And here came another one: as the two of them ran past a squad, the lead instructor suddenly gave an order.

"Squat down!"

The students below followed the order, and immediately, two eye-catching characters made a brilliant appearance.

Unlike the other students, these two not only squatted down but also held their heads with both hands, looking exactly like those criminals being caught by the police.

The lead instructor was speechless, his forehead covered in black lines. He went up and kicked each of them, laughing and scolding, "What kind of work did you two do before?"

"Hahaha!"

Following that, the whole squad burst into loud laughter.

Shen Yan and Lin Yang were laughing so hard they lost their breath; they stopped in their tracks, coughing, with tears swirling in their eyes, unable to recover for a long time.

"Cough, cough, cough!"

"Damn! I almost laughed myself to death."

The morning training intensity wasn't high, as they were all practicing basic movements. It is worth mentioning that because of his outstanding performance, Tang Song was appointed as the squad leader of the Third Company First Squad, which left Yu Youwei feeling discouraged for quite a while.

She had worked so hard, so why couldn't she get the instructor's approval?

In the afternoon, the temperature rose even higher, hitting thirty-eight degrees. The scorching sun baked the earth until it was piping hot. A southern wind blew, rolling up waves of heat from the ground, so stiflingly hot it felt like fire.

Under the scorching sun, the whole class sweated like rain on the sports field. Following Li Bufan's commands, they carried out rigorous training. Their clothes were already soaked through, yet they still held their chests high, eyes fixed forward.

During breaks, everyone ran under the big trees, some drinking water, some chatting. A group of boys gathered together to comment on the girls.

Of course, the subjects of their discussion were undoubtedly those from the Dormitory.

"I think Wu Yueer is the prettiest; she's tall and curvy, she could even be a model."

"Yu Youwei is the No. 1; she's both pure and alluring, the 'white moonlight' in the hearts of boys."

"Agreed!"

"Chen Shanni is also very good; she's plump and fair, with a special temperament."

Most of the boys felt that Wu Yueer had the highest beauty, but her figure was too tall, which was a huge insult to the boys—she could only be admired from afar and not approached. Yu Youwei was different; her face was pure, fitting the image of the 'white moonlight' in the public's heart, and she was easier to approach.

Some even boasted that they were going to win over this pure goddess.

Shen Yan smiled upon hearing this and said to that guy from Guangxi, "Buddy, Yu Youwei isn't planning to date in college, you'd better change your target."

The guy from Guangxi was named Pang Weijie. He was one meter eighty tall, wore red-framed glasses on the bridge of his nose, and looked fair and slightly thin, quite like a scholar with a spirited air.

What was most striking was his thick local accent, and his Mandarin was basically unrelated to the word 'standard'.

Just like Yu Youwei's name, this guy insisted on calling her 'Yu Yaofei', which made people laugh and cry at the same time.

Shen Yan thought that if this guy were to stand in court in the future, the solemn atmosphere would surely collapse the moment he opened his mouth.

The judge would probably be unable to stop from laughing.

That scene would truly be hard to look at.

Hearing this, Pang Weijie looked at Shen Yan in confusion, "How do you know? Did Yu Yaofei tell you herself?"

Shen Yan nodded and said, "Youwei and I grew up together; there's no need to lie to you about this."

Just then, Yu Youwei came to Shen Yan with a light blue bottle and said with a smile, "Shen Yan, it's so hot, put on some sunscreen, or you'll get tanned like a piece of charcoal."

Being so close to the goddess for the first time, Pang Weijie's cheeks turned red instantly. He lowered his head and began to fiddle with the laces on his shoes, over and over again, aimlessly.

Shen Yan gladly accepted the small bottle.

He had originally planned to go to the supermarket to buy sunscreen after training, but now he had saved himself the trouble.

Lin Yang, that shameless guy, saw this and crowded over, wanting to mooch some sunscreen. Shen Yan told him to get lost, mooching sunscreen from a girl.

Yu Youwei covered her mouth and giggled, feeling that Shen Yan had really changed a lot; he was more sunny and cheerful, and he had more and more friends around him.

"Damn!" Lin Yang cursed, but he wasn't really angry.

He would just go to the supermarket and buy a bottle later.

After Yu Youwei left, Pang Weijie grabbed Shen Yan's arm and pleaded, "Buddy, I really like Yu Yaofei, you must help me."

"I really can't help; she doesn't plan on dating."

"How do you know if you don't try?"

Shen Yan simply stopped paying attention to him; let him do whatever he wanted.

At five in the afternoon, after the instructor announced the dismissal, everyone rushed out of the sports field like they had been injected with adrenaline, and the fatigue of a day's training was swept away in an instant.

Some gathered in twos and threes and walked toward the cafeteria, while others went to the school's gymnasium, which had a swimming pool inside; they couldn't wait to have a refreshing swim.

Shen Yan took his phone back from the storage box and found two unread messages from Hao Anqi.

"Little Aunt, the sun is so big, remember to apply sunscreen (cute)."

"A little trick for military training: put sanitary pads in your shoes; they can absorb sweat and remove odors, and they are very comfortable to wear. Do you want to try it?"

Shen Yan: "Little Aunt????"

Hao Anqi replied instantly: "You called me Little Hao yesterday, so what's wrong with me calling you Little Aunt (Shen)?"

Shen Yan rubbed his nose. No matter what, he had lived for over thirty years; calling her 'Little Hao' wasn't excessive, right?

The little girl had quite a temper.

Before Shen Yan could reply, Hao Anqi said again: "Call me An Qi, my friends all call me that. Also, are you free tonight? I'll treat you to barbecue."

"Sure! Why wouldn't I go if someone is treating?"

"Then it's settled, see you at nine when training ends (smiley face)."

The group of four arrived at the cafeteria closest to the sports field, Manweiju; it was the peak of the dinner rush, and as far as the eye could see, it was a sea of people, with six winding, snake-like queues lined up in front of the serving windows. The aunties serving the food were incredibly nimble; with a light flick of their hands, half the side dish in the spoon would vanish, and with another flick, only a quarter remained, before they would satisfy themselves by dumping it onto the plate. This peak-level spoon-shaking skill made the students' eyes twitch uncontrollably.

Zhu Baoping complained, "It's not like you're the one paying for how much you serve, look at how capable you are."

It was truly like scalding a chicken with cold water—not a single feather would come off.

Lin Yang said if he thought it was too little, he should just call her a good sister a few times, and it would definitely work. Zhu Baoping looked at the serving auntie, who was already in her forties or fifties, faded and aged, but in order to get a full meal, he shamelessly shouted, "Sister, I have a big appetite, could you please serve me a little more?"

The serving auntie wasn't stupid; she had seen all sorts of people, and Zhu Baoping was just a short, stout guy who wasn't even handsome—what good was a sweet mouth?

This is a world that looks at faces.

She went straight to business and started shaking the spoon, leaving Zhu Baoping with a look of wanting to cry but having no tears.

In the end, it was all in vain!

The other three watched and laughed heartily.
