Chapter 344: Called to a Halt

~7 min read 1,271 words

The Chen family dining room.

Three bowls of dumplings emitted hazy white steam, like three blooming white lotuses; the dumpling skins were crystal clear, like thin gauze, making one unable to resist wanting to taste one.

However, in this situation, Chen Shanni had no time to attend to anything else.

"I..."

Facing Wu Yue'er's tricky question, Chen Shanni flushed red, brushed a lock of hair from her forehead, and parted her red lips slightly, but after struggling for a long time, she couldn't force out a single word.

She did not know how to bring it up.

Seeing this, Shen Yan took the initiative to help her out: "Stop asking; this matter isn't easy to explain."

This caused Wu Yue'er's curiosity to climb to its peak; she really wanted to know the answer: "What secret could you two possibly have that you can't tell? We'll all be family in the future, just tell me."

Neither of them replied, burying their heads to eat their dumplings.

"Hurry up, if you don't pick up the pace, you'll be late for class," Shen Yan urged.

Wu Yue'er pouted so hard a soy sauce bottle could be hung from it, but since she could do nothing about the two of them, she could only vent her frustration on the dumplings, eating them one by one, wolfing them down.

The sky was clear and the air was crisp, a beautiful day.

After breakfast, the three of them took the elevator to the underground garage; Shen Yan did not drive the white Maybach, as he was still a student and it was best not to be too flashy at school.

Wu Yue'er had once worked as a car model and knew a great deal about automobiles; she couldn't help but be astonished when she noticed an extra luxury car in the garage.

"Our residential complex has such a wealthy resident, actually driving a car worth millions."

Chen Shanni covered her mouth and chuckled: "That car is actually Shen Yan's!"

"Huh?" Wu Yue'er was greatly shocked.

Sitting in the BMW 3 Series, Wu Yue'er couldn't help but ask Shen Yan why he thought to buy a new car, and Shen Yan briefly recounted what had happened.

Uh...

Wu Yue'er didn't even know what to say; a man could get a reward of several million just by saving someone, which made those heroes who roared at injustice and nearly lost their lives feel quite pathetic.

People, really! Different people truly have different fates.

Driving to school, a long-lost atmosphere of study rushed toward them.

In the third month of spring, flowers on both sides of the road bloomed in competition, vying for beauty; red like fire, white like snow, yellow like gold, it was dazzling and overwhelming to the eyes.

The fragrance of flowers and the scent of green grass permeating the air were like perfume carefully blended by nature for the people; taking a light breath, one's entire mood became joyful.

The spring breeze is triumphant, the horse's hooves are swift; in one day, one sees all the flowers of Chang'an.

This perfectly described Shen Yan's state of mind at this moment.

It was the peak time for classes, and the asphalt road on campus was bustling with people, some sprinting, others strolling; Shen Yan parked the car in front of the teaching building and happened to run into a few old acquaintances.

Among them were Pang Weijie, Tang Song, and Yuan Mingqing.

Tang Song: "Yo! Isn't this old Shen? I thought you had dropped out."

He looked at Shen Yan with a playful expression, his eyes full of teasing.

Yuan Mingqing chimed in: "No kidding, we've only seen you twice since the semester started; we almost forgot you were still around."

Pang Weijie sighed and said in a thick-accented Mandarin: "He's the only one actually attending university; the rest of us are being attended by the university."

Shen Yan smiled awkwardly: "Don't say that; I almost had my head twisted off by the counselor for taking leave this time, so I have to be a good boy from now on."

The group burst into laughter.

Noticing the obvious bruises on Tang Song's face, Shen Yan asked curiously how it happened, and Tang Song sighed lightly: "Don't mention it; I don't know if Lao Lin ate gunpowder last night or what, he just went off at the slightest touch..."

Speaking of this, Tang Song felt a lump of frustration in his heart with nowhere to vent.

Damn it! He had been running a small shop by the book, and the business had just started to pick up, making him so happy he didn't know where he was, walking on air.

He never expected that good times wouldn't last, and he ran into that powder keg, Lin Yang.

When the conflict broke out, he was the first to rush up to break up the fight, only to suffer an unprovoked disaster, getting caught in the crossfire; he felt incredibly depressed.

In the end, the brawl grew larger and larger, alarming the dormitory supervisor.

The supervisor said one thing: "Students should look like students; from now on, no running small shops in the dormitory building."

Great! The gifts he had sent earlier were all for nothing.

Tang Song could understand the teacher's feelings; the other party was afraid of taking responsibility, as students didn't have food business licenses—it was fine if no one reported it, but once reported, it was a sure thing.

Once the matter blew up, the dormitory supervisor couldn't escape the responsibility of poor supervision.

Upon learning the situation, Shen Yan and Wu Yue'er exchanged a glance; they knew without thinking that Lin Yang's sudden madness definitely had something to do with Wu Yue'er's confession.

Wu Yue'er stuck out her tongue cutely; how was she to know that this guy Lin Yang was so stubborn, still pining for her even after he had a girlfriend.

Sigh! It's all because of this damn charm of mine.

Shen Yan patted Tang Song on the shoulder and said: "This is only temporary; later, when the incident dies down, go and communicate properly with the dormitory supervisor, there might still be a possibility of reopening."

"Sigh! I hope so." Tang Song sighed gloomily.

The shop had been open for a week, and not only had he not made any money, but the gifts he had sent had all gone down the drain.

How could one word like 'sorrow' describe it!

That wasn't even the most depressing part; afterward, he asked Lin Yang what the situation was—it was just sitting in a computer chair, there was no need to lose such a big temper.

Who knew Lin Yang would stiffen his neck and say, I just don't like the look of that guy.

This was completely an unprovoked disaster, totally nonsensical.

Walking into the classroom, unsurprisingly, Shen Yan's arrival caused another small stir, with constant teasing, saying things like "Does the busy man still remember he's a student?" and "I thought you had gone missing."

Someone even feigned confusion and said: "Yo! Isn't that what's-his-name? I can't remember the name for a second."

Shen Yan smiled and responded to the teasing, feeling a sense of surprise inside.

He didn't know when it started, but he found that his popularity was getting better and better; no matter if they were familiar faces or not, there were always people coming up to greet him warmly on the road.

Perhaps, just as the saying goes: "When you are successful, there is no need to deliberately expand your network; people will naturally come to befriend you."
