Chapter 53: Classmates Marvel

~7 min read 1,343 words

Under the gaze of many rolling eyes, Pang Weijie sat down awkwardly, then sent the jaw-dropping video he had just seen into the class group chat.

Then, the expressions of his classmates gradually turned blank, their mouths hanging open, not even realizing when their drool began to drip down.

Messages flew wildly in the group.

Zhu Baoping: "Lin Yang! Are you sure this isn't staged?"

Pang Weijie: "That shouldn't be possible, there were so many audience members on site."

Qiqi: "It's possible they got the answers in advance and both sides are cooperating to run an advertisement."

Yuan Mingqing: "That suspicion is very reasonable."

Zhu Baoping: "This happened just this afternoon, and the location is at Weilan Zhidu near our school."

A bunch of people were there making all sorts of guesses, doubting the authenticity of the video; there was no helping it, the operation in the video was simply too inconceivable.

Shen Yan rubbed his nose; the content of this video was nothing other than the full recording of his Fourth Round Mental Arithmetic Challenge that afternoon. Fortunately, his face had been pixelated, and his name replaced with "Mr. Shen," otherwise the whole class would likely have exploded.

He hadn't expected Weilan Zhidu to act so quickly, already stirring up a massive storm on Weibo.

Truth be told, Shen Yan's mental arithmetic ability wasn't all that earth-shattering. He had once watched the show "Super Brain," where half-grown children relied on themselves to complete various feats that seemed inconceivable to ordinary people.

This was nothing; at the end of the day, it was just that ordinary people lacked awareness.

To be on the safe side, Shen Yan sent a message to Chen Shanni: "Did you tell anyone else about what happened this afternoon?"

Chen Shanni: "No!"

Shen Yan: "That's good. I'd like to ask you to keep this a secret, otherwise it will be very troublesome to explain."

Chen Shanni naturally agreed readily and mentioned that she had bought the house next to Shen Yan's.

Shen Yan: "That's great, take care of me in the future!"

Chen Shanni: "Take care of me too!"

In truth, Chen Shanni really wanted to ask where Shen Yan got so much money. According to what she knew, Shen Yan's family background was average, and he seemed to have been working part-time during the summer vacation to earn money. However, their relationship hadn't reached that point yet, so she could only bury this doubt deep in her heart.

The class meeting soon drew to a close. Huang Shuren announced that the class committee members should stay for a short meeting, while everyone else could head back.

After stepping out, Shen Yan hopped on his e-bike and headed straight for the Communication University of China. The moonlight was like water, the Milky Way was brilliant, and the chirping of insects echoed from the plane trees on both sides of the road. Accompanied by the gentle evening breeze, one couldn't help but be intoxicated by the tranquil night.

The photography class meeting had started half an hour later than Law Class One. By the time Shen Yan arrived, Hao Anqi was still held up in the teaching building. The lights in each classroom flickered, looking like fireflies in the pitch-black night, exceptionally dazzling.

After wandering in the world of novels for nearly ten minutes, a group of students finally emerged from the teaching building in shadows. Among them was Hao Anqi. Seeing that familiar figure under the streetlamp, Hao Anqi ran over like a little sprite.

Looking at that pretty and charming appearance, Shen Yan's eyes lit up instantly.

In their previous meetings, Hao Anqi had always been bare-faced, wearing either casual long pants or camouflage pants, her long legs wrapped up tightly.

Today, however, she was wearing a gray halter top paired with a high-waisted apricot skirt—a quintessential Korean-style pure-desire look. On her feet were black Martin boots, and her little ponytail had been let down, falling naturally from her shoulders to her chest, making her look mature and elegant.

Her lips were painted with a brownish-pink lipstick, looking just like jelly, giving one the urge to take a bite.

Noticing Shen Yan's stunned expression, Hao Anqi's smile grew even wider. She spun around beautifully and asked, "How is it? Does this outfit look good on me?"

"If the figure is on point, everything else is just an accessory; if the looks are on point, whatever you wear is top-tier," Shen Yan said sincerely.

Hao Anqi was overjoyed by the compliment and coquettishly said, "Your mouth is like it's been smeared with honey. You weren't like this when we first met."

Shen Yan indicated that he had been reading more books lately.

"Eww! Do you two have to be so lovey-dovey?" Wen Xiaoyan, not far away, couldn't help but speak up.

Standing beside her were the cute-styled Wen Qingqing and the silly, bespectacled Wang Jing.

Wen Qingqing sighed and said, "It's one thing that Handsome Shen is good-looking, but his mouth is so sweet too. No wonder An Qi was so desperate to go over and add his QQ."

Shen Yan looked at Hao Anqi in surprise. So, it wasn't a game of Truth or Dare back then? He really had underestimated this girl's boldness.

Hao Anqi didn't care about that at all. The rice was already cooked; didn't saying these things now just prove that her eye for people was sharp?

After saying goodbye to the three girls, Shen Yan took Hao Anqi to a nearby commercial street. Neon signs flickered everywhere, shop assistants waved to attract customers at the entrances, and promotional broadcasts blared one after another.

"Only deals you can't imagine, no savings you can't make! Seasonal clearance, the carnival begins!"

"Not a single piece left, not half a piece kept! Special prices storewide, crazy blowout sale!"

Vendors at the shop entrances kept shouting their catchy slogans, and the wafting aroma of food made Hao Anqi linger.

"Shuai Yan, I want to eat candied hawthorn."

And so, Hao Anqi ended up with a brightly colored skewer in her hand; the ruddy hawthorn and the glossy sugar coating were tightly connected, forming a beautiful sight.

Hao Anqi hooked her left arm through Shen Yan's, her palm naturally resting on his firm, sturdy bicep, gently kneading it. With her right hand, she held the candied hawthorn, squinting her long, charming eyes as she ate a sugar-coated hawthorn, her lips stained shiny.

She didn't eat it all by herself; after biting off one, she held the skewer out to Shen Yan's mouth.

"You try one too, it's sweet and sour, it's delicious."

After Shen Yan tasted one, he found the texture was indeed good. The layer of sugar melted slowly in his mouth, and the sweet and sour flavor of the hawthorn pulp gradually emerged, combining perfectly with the sweetness of the sugar.

When passing by an accessory shop, Shen Yan paused and pulled Hao Anqi back inside.

The shop was filled with a dazzling array of items, including skincare products, bags, and daily necessities. Shen Yan ignored those and cast his gaze toward the hair accessory section at the entrance. In one of the hair clip boxes lay five exquisite crystal hair clips emitting a brilliant luster.

"Qiqi, I think this style of hair clip suits you. Do you want to try it?" Shen Yan suggested.

At just one glance, Hao Anqi was attracted by these crystal hair clips. She nodded and began to put up her hair to try them on.

"It looks great!" Looking at Hao Anqi with the hair accessory on, Shen Yan exclaimed sincerely.

The colors of the hair accessory were vibrant, like a rainbow embedded in her thick bun, adding a touch of romance and tenderness to Hao Anqi.

After looking in the mirror, Hao Anqi was also very satisfied. When asked, the price was 128. After cutting it in half and doing some smooth-talking, Shen Yan finally bought it for 70 yuan.

As the first gift he had ever given Hao Anqi.
