Chapter 61: A Heart-to-Heart Talk Between Mother and Daughter

~7 min read 1,316 words

Outside the window, the stars are scattered; inside the window, thoughts are myriad.

Opening his laptop, Shen Yan had just prepared to start a game of LOL when his phone suddenly rang with a crisp chime.

It was a call from Lin Yang.

"Hey! Lao Lin."

Lin Yang said, "Old Shen, did Wu Yue'er run off to your place? How come I never heard you mention it?"

Shen Yan tilted his head to glance at Wu Yue'er and said indifferently, "I thought you knew. Let me clarify, she didn't come to my house; she's visiting Youwei's place."

Lin Yang: "My mistake, my mistake. She really didn't mention it to me, otherwise I would have gone with you guys."

As soon as Wu Yue'er heard it was Lin Yang, she curled her lip, having no intention of responding at all, and kept her head down to continue mopping the floor, her wet slippers making "creak, creak" sounds on the floorboards.

Two minutes later, Shen Yan hung up the phone and told Wu Yue'er to stop mopping for now and come play a few rounds of LOL to satisfy her craving.

Upon hearing this, Wu Yue'er immediately hopped over to the Yu Family's place to fetch her laptop, then sat down next to Shen Yan, pulled in Lin Yang, and the three of them galloped across the battlefield of Summoner's Rift, invincible.

"Old Lin, how did you manage to take an ultimate attack face-first? If you just scattered some rice, a chicken's footwork would be better than yours."

"This noob AD, were their ancestors pig farmers? They've fed the opponents so fat."

"Damn! Still not destroying the defensive tower? Is the demolition compensation not in yet?"

"Still not coming to support? Are you just window shopping over there?"

They were on a winning streak, but that didn't stop Wu Yue'er's little mouth from being as sweet as if it were smeared with honey, spitting out one golden line after another, which made Shen Yan and Lin Yang laugh heartily.

Shen Yan said with a smile, "With your eloquence, it's a real pity the Deyun comedy troupe hasn't invited you to join."

Wu Yue'er chuckled, accidentally revealing her true nature again. Change! Must stay gentle.

Meanwhile, next door at the Yu Family.

Sun Bixia came to her daughter's room and, seeing her watching a TV series with great interest, sat down gently on the bed and asked her to pause for a moment.

Yu Youwei turned her head, her face showing confusion.

"Youwei, let's have a heart-to-heart talk as mother and daughter today. Mom wants to hear what you think about Xiao Yan," Sun Bixia said with a smile.

"What do you mean?"

Yu Youwei tilted her head, playing dumb over there.

Sun Bixia spoke bluntly: "Mom won't beat around the bush with you. Xiao Yan has become increasingly sunny and cheerful lately, his eloquence and abilities are quite good, he looks handsome and dignified, and now he even has the material conditions like a car and a house. Boys like this are usually the most liked by girls."

Yu Youwei's expression darkened slightly, and she pouted, saying, "What does that have to do with me?"

Sun Bixia caught this micro-expression and chuckled, saying, "Mom is thinking, you two grew up together and know each other inside and out. If you could end up together, it would actually be quite nice, so I came to ask what your thoughts are."

Yu Youwei shook her head, a look of confusion appearing on her face, saying she didn't know either and only wanted to study hard in university. As soon as Sun Bixia heard this, she knew her daughter had some feelings for Shen Yan; otherwise, given her daughter's personality, she would have definitely denied it outright.

So she said, "You had better consider it carefully, otherwise if Xiao Yan gets a girlfriend one day, you'll regret it too late."

After the mother-daughter talk, Yu Youwei fell into deep thought, her eyes seeming to lose focus, empty and vacant.

On an early autumn evening, the air was filled with a hint of chill. Shen Nainai had just returned home from square dancing when she heard the soft voice in her precious grandson's room and was slightly stunned.

She immediately realized it was that female classmate named Wu Yue'er.

With a tall, graceful figure and a beautiful, jade-like appearance, she had felt from their first meeting that her grandson and Wu Yue'er were a good match; how wonderful it would be to bring her back as a granddaughter-in-law.

Now it seemed their relationship was unexpectedly good.

Little Danta also noticed there were two strangers in the house, so he trotted over to the doorway, tilted his head, and curiously sized the two of them up.

His yellow-white fur looked exceptionally soft and beautiful under the lights.

Shen Nainai asked from the living room, "Girl, are you hungry? How about I have Xiao Yan get you something to eat?"

Wu Yue'er hurriedly stood up and said with a smile, "Grandma, just call me Yue'er. I'm not hungry, no need to trouble yourself."

"Alright then, you two have fun."

After saying this, Shen Nainai went back to her room happily, while Danta walked into the room, swaying left and right, and let out two yaps, attempting to attract their attention.

Once the game ended, Wu Yue'er packed her things and returned to the Yu Family. Shen Yan asked Shen Nainai for the location of the dog food and then took out a few pieces to feed Little Danta.

Ha! Little Danta was a mercenary who would follow anyone with food, immediately sticking his face against Shen Yan.

Shen Nainai shook her head as she watched from the side, saying Danta was a glutton. Danta barked in dissatisfaction, clearly having understood.

He was indeed a smart Border Collie.

Furthermore, Shen Yan discovered that Little Danta seemed to have been trained before. He told him to sit; at first, he was a bit bewildered, but after training him while feeding him, he was doing it properly in no time.

So Shen Yan found some dog training videos online and, following the videos, tried training Danta to back up, shake hands, nod, lie down, roll over, spin in circles, and beg.

Aside from being a bit slow with individual movements, after training a few times, Danta could easily complete the corresponding actions according to the commands.

Clearly, the previous owner had put a lot of effort into Danta's training; it was just unclear why they had ended up separated.

On the other side, after receiving the video of Shen Yan training the dog, Hao Anqi was so envious she was practically falling apart.

"Wow! Danta is so smart, and he looks so beautiful too."

"Shuai Yan, why don't you bring him to Hangzhou to raise him? (Heart)"

Shen Yan: "Raising him is definitely impossible. Grandma isn't willing to go to Hangzhou with me. I'll try to persuade her again later to let her go to Hangzhou to live for a while; I'll bring Danta for you to see then."

Hao Anqi: "Mm-hmm! I love dogs so much. My family has a local dog too, but he's just not as smart as Danta."

At this moment, Yu Youwei sent a message: "Shen Yan, Xu Lin said he's organizing a class reunion the day after tomorrow. Let's go together then."

Shen Yan: "I'm not going. I'm not close with them."

Yu Youwei: "We're all high school classmates; won't we get close after hanging out a few more times?"

"You guys have fun."

Yu Youwei knew that the current Shen Yan had a very firm mind; once he decided on something, eight oxen couldn't pull him back, so she had to give up. Shen Yan smiled slightly; this girl was making some progress.

I'm not someone just anyone can manipulate.
