Chapter 65: Visiting

~7 min read 1,331 words

Originally, Shen Yan only intended to get a haircut, but the way Yu Youwei looked after perming her hair gave him a new idea. From childhood to adulthood, Shen Yan had always been a proper, honest person; the words "perm" and "dye" had never existed in his dictionary.

Now, however, he had a mind to try it out.

Considering all factors and following the hairstylist's recommendation, Shen Yan ultimately chose to get a Morgan Sui Gai perm. It was refreshing and easy to manage, most suitable for a "lazy" person like him.

An hour and a half later, his brand-new hairstyle made a shining debut: the roots were voluminous, the ends of the hair were bundled, and the temples and nape were trimmed short and thin, with the long hair on top naturally covering part of it to create a disconnected effect.

Not bad! The first perm didn't end in disaster.

Returning home, the first thing that caught his eye was Wu Yueer, who was sprawled on the sofa with no regard for her image, her long, shapely legs resting on the coffee table, twitching as she watched TV comfortably.

"I just went for a haircut; why are you rushing me like a soul-snatcher?" Shen Yan said with dissatisfaction.

Wu Yueer gave a cheeky laugh and said with a brazen face, "Youwei went to a class reunion, and I was bored at home alone."

She immediately followed up by praising Shen Yan's new hairstyle as very handsome—handsome to an incredible degree.

Shen Nainai came out of her room and also nodded in constant admiration, then said, "Xiao Yan, Yue'er is eating at our house tonight; go buy some groceries."

Shen Yan glanced at Wu Yueer and said there was food at home, wouldn't it be fine to just make do with a few bites? Wu Yueer chimed in, "Grandma, Yue'er and Shen Yan are good friends, it doesn't need to be that much trouble." Shen Nainai said firmly, "How can we be so careless when a classmate comes to visit? Xiao Yan, hurry up and go."

Fine! Since the Empress Dowager had spoken, he could only obey obediently.

And so, Shen Yan, whose seat hadn't even warmed up yet, had to head out again, and Wu Yueer, having nothing better to do, trotted along behind him.

Shen Nainai smiled from behind until she couldn't close her mouth, the wrinkles on her face smoothing out.

They looked like a couple no matter how she saw it!

It wasn't just Shen Nainai who had this thought; when the neighbors saw the two of them together, someone teased, "Xiao Yan, is this your girlfriend? She looks even better than a movie star."

"Xiao Yan has made something of himself; just started university and already brought back such a beautiful girlfriend."

Wu Yueer couldn't help but be overjoyed, revealing a sweet smile, but upon seeing Shen Yan's expressionless face, she felt secretly annoyed.

The revolution has not yet succeeded; comrades still need to work hard.

So she took the initiative to try and hook her arm through Shen Yan's, but Shen Yan jumped back a few steps in a startle, asking suspiciously, "Geez, what are you doing?"

"What's wrong with hooking arms? All my good buddies back home hook arms like this." Wu Yueer pouted, completely unconcerned. The warm sunlight fell softly on her face, as if plating her in a layer of golden luster, hazy and beautiful.

"This isn't appropriate; after all, men and women should keep their distance."

Wu Yueer complained that Shen Yan's thinking was feudal and that the Qing Dynasty had long since fallen. However, no matter what Wu Yueer said, Shen Yan remained unmoved; in public, it would be bad if people misunderstood.

After buying the ingredients, Shen Yan personally cooked a few small dishes: stir-fried shrimp with loofah, steamed sea bass, braised pork belly, tofu soup, boiled cauliflower, and strawberries. All set!

Wu Yueer first took a photo, then ate while exclaiming, "As expected of Brother Rice Noodle, your skills are top-notch."

Shen Nainai didn't know what "Brother Rice Noodle" meant, so Wu Yueer chattered away to explain, "Grandma, all the classmates say that with these skills, even if Shen Yan can't find a job after graduation, he'll still live better than most people."

Shen Nainai nodded continuously; no matter the era, a skilled craftsman never goes hungry, so she never worried about her dear grandson's future.

Danta was drooling with greed on the side, staring straight at Shen Yan and making whimpering sounds.

It had discovered that ever since its little master returned, the food at home had improved linearly; every mealtime, the house was filled with the aroma of meat, making the dog drool.

Shen Yan understood what it wanted; he quite liked this clever little fellow, so he always prepared an extra portion when cooking and served it separately for it to eat.

So he said, "Come, beg me."

Danta immediately stood on its hind legs, straightened up, and kept bowing with its front paws.

Shen Nainai watched from the side and was delighted.

"Holy cow! Shen Yan, has your dog become a spirit?" Wu Yueer almost dropped her jaw in shock.

Shen Yan patted the dog's head and said, "You don't understand; Danta is a Border Collie, number one in canine IQ, equivalent to a 7 or 8-year-old child. This level of difficulty is a piece of cake."

Wu Yueer couldn't help but think of that silly dog that had peed on her back; both were dogs, but the gap between them was like a chasm.

After dinner, Shen Nainai took Danta out for a walk, and Shen Yan handed the dishwashing chore to Wu Yueer, slipping back into his room.

He opened Photoshop and continued to draw clothing designs.

Although he had quite a bit of money on hand now, Shen Yan had no intention of sitting around and eating through his savings. Currently, Taobao was still booming with little competition, but as merchants kept flooding in, the cake was only so big and would one day be completely carved up.

When that time came, it would be big fish eating small fish, and small fish eating shrimp—survival of the fittest—so having his own products was crucial.

Shen Yan planned to first open a garment factory in Hangzhou to produce his own unique clothing. The first step was to design a few popular clothing styles.

Online shopping was undoubtedly dominated by the female demographic. In Hangzhou, there was almost no concept of four seasons—it was either winter or summer—so Shen Yan prepared to open up the market starting with women's thermal underwear and down jackets.

For Shen Yan, who had rich online shopping experience, this was completely effortless; he just needed to casually copy some hit clothing items from the future.

After washing the dishes, Wu Yueer came over and saw Shen Yan drawing clothes, asking curiously, "What are you doing?"

Shen Yan didn't look back and said he was doing serious work, and if she was bored, she could play games or watch TV. Wu Yueer pouted and said in a coquettish tone, "Oh! What's there to draw? Since you're idle anyway, why don't we go shopping?"

Shen Yan had gradually grown accustomed to Wu Yueer's tone and refused without a second thought. Shopping with girls was the most troublesome thing; only a fool would do it.

Wu Yueer said again, "If not shopping, that's fine too, let's find some fun. How about going to the arcade? We could also watch a movie, or ice skating would be nice."

Shen Yan's face remained calm, but he had a little idea in his heart; the suggestion was worth adopting, and he would take Xiao Qiqi to try it another day.

Seeing this, Wu Yueer was depressed to the extreme. A beautiful girl like a flower was sitting right beside him, and he was so indifferent?

In desperation, Wu Yueer directly unleashed her ultimate move.
