Chapter 88: Disaster-Prone

~8 min read 1,438 words

In the misty bathroom, Wu Yue'er knitted her brows, her peach-blossom eyes vacant and unfocused; while lost in thought, she suddenly discovered that Hao Anqi's social media feed had updated again, the content being a video of the two of them square dancing today.

It was accompanied by a line of text: Discovering a new skill in someone.

It turned out it was the first time the two of them had danced together.

One had to admit, Shen Yan was like a mysterious little sprite, revealing new talents from time to time, which was truly astonishing.

Originally, Wu Yue'er had considered whether or not to forward it to Yu Youwei, but she thought better of it, lest this girl be deeply stimulated, or once again be attracted by Shen Yan, sinking deeper and deeper.

Just at this moment, a sudden "clatter" sounded from outside, giving Wu Yue'er a start that made her whole body shudder.

"Shanni, what happened to you?"

Immediately following was a rustling sound and a flurry of chaotic activity; Wu Yue'er didn't even have time to rinse the foam off her body, wrapping herself in a bath towel and rushing out.

When Shen Yan stepped out of the elevator, he saw Wu Yue'er wrapped in a bath towel, her hair dripping wet, exposing her fragrant shoulders and collarbones, the hem of the towel reaching her knees, as she was pulling Shen Nainai toward 801.

"Shen Yan, you've returned just in time. Shanni just took a fall, and there's a huge bump on her forehead. Come quickly and see if she needs to be sent to the hospital."

Seeing Shen Yan return, Wu Yue'er felt as if she had seen a savior, and she spoke with extreme anxiety.

Shen Yan did not dare to delay in the slightest, hurrying into the Chen home, where he saw at a glance that Chen Shanni was dressed in deep red silk pajamas; the garment was like a ball of burning flame, yet her complexion was pale as paper as she leaned against the coffee table in the center of the living room, her right hand tightly covering her forehead, her expression one of extreme pain, which was truly pitiful.

Seeing that she was conscious, Shen Yan breathed a slight sigh of relief and asked, "How are you feeling? Do you feel dizzy?"

"A little dizzy, my forehead hurts so much," Chen Shanni said weakly.

For some reason, Shen Yan's arrival made Chen Shanni feel an inexplicable sense of peace; that concerned gaze and gentle tone were like a spring breeze brushing past, carrying endless warmth.

Shen Yan pulled her hand away to examine the wound.

Good heavens! This bump was truly large and swollen, like an abrupt little hill, bluish in color, mercilessly occupying the area above her left eyebrow and a corner of her smooth forehead.

"Is there any ice water or something in the fridge? Or a drink would work too," Shen Yan asked Wu Yue'er.

The answer was no.

Shen Yan first carried Chen Shanni to the sofa, then ran home to get a bottle of canned fruit, soaked a towel, and applied it to Chen Shanni's wound.

"Ice it for a while first; I expect the dizziness will ease. If that doesn't work, I'll take you to the hospital."

Chen Shanni gave a soft hum; after being iced like this, she felt much more comfortable, and she figured there shouldn't be any major problems.

Hearing this news, the group collectively breathed a sigh of relief; Shen Nainai was concerned about how Chen Shanni had suddenly fallen, and Chen Shanni explained that her slippers were a bit wet after coming out of the shower, she had slipped by accident, and her forehead had knocked against the coffee table.

Wu Yue'er sighed: "Shanni, you really are prone to disasters; it was kidney stones before, and this time you almost went back to the hospital. I was so scared just now that my soul flew away."

Chen Shanni curled her lips bitterly with a dismal smile; in truth, such things were not uncommon in her life—no major disasters, but occasional minor accidents.

Shen Nainai said: "That's easy to fix. There is a fortune-telling Master we know who is very accurate. Later, I will go and have your fortune told and pray for a peace talisman; it is guaranteed to work."

Chen Shanni was a bit hesitant; her family never believed in such things, but Shen Nainai believed in Buddhism and said that it was better to believe it exists than to believe it doesn't, and trying it wouldn't hurt.

"Then I will trouble you, Grandma!" Chen Shanni ultimately did not want to disappoint the old lady's good intentions.

Trying it wouldn't hurt; perhaps it would actually work.

Before leaving, Shen Yan instructed Chen Shanni to use cold compresses for one to two days, then switch to hot compresses; there was information about this online, and he estimated she would recover in about a week.

"If there's any situation, come over and call me!"

"Thank you! I've caused you trouble again!" Chen Shanni said gratefully.

"It's a small matter!"

The next day, the sun gradually leaped out of the hazy sea, and a small half-circle of purple-red flame illuminated the entire sky; behind the vibrant morning glow, it looked as if an endless blue silk fabric had been unfurled.

During the peak time for classes, people came and went on every path of the campus, with the tracks of bicycles and small electric scooters everywhere; Shen Yan discovered that the campus was a bit different today, as he ran into several students handing out flyers, enthusiastically beautifying the benefits of joining related departments, including club recruitment, department Student Union recruitment, and school Student Union recruitment.

In the classroom, students gathered in twos and threes, heatedly discussing the matter of joining clubs.

With a little observation, one could see that the seating of male and female students was changing unconsciously; a few young couples were huddled together, chatting and laughing, or shyly stealing glances at each other—that layer of window paper seemed like it would be poked through very soon.

Some were internal class affairs, upholding the principle that "the fat water doesn't flow into outsiders' fields," while others were pairings between Law Class (1) and Class (2), creating a beautiful story.

The restlessness of youth was intensifying!

Several girls from 602 were sitting upright in the front row of the classroom, with Chen Shanni and Wu Yue'er among them; Chen Shanni had a piece of gauze on her forehead, making it impossible to see the specific injury.

The monitor of Class 2, Sun Dawei, was tall and sturdy, standing a full 1.8 meters, with thick eyebrows and large eyes, his bronze skin glowing with health; a boy who appeared so rugged on the outside often favored those pretty girls who appeared delicate.

And so, when he noticed the gauze on Chen Shanni's forehead, he rushed over like a gust of wind, his voice soft and gentle, his concern overflowing.

"Shanni, did you hurt your forehead? Is it serious?"

Chen Shanni once again displayed the demeanor of a cold goddess, saying expressionlessly: "I'm fine. Please call me Student Chen, and please return to your seat."

"We are all classmates; I'm just concerned about you, I don't mean anything else," Sun Dawei said, ignoring the cold shoulder and putting on a thick-skinned face.

Chen Shanni had no way to deal with such a thick-skinned boy and could only respond with silence, but Wu Yue'er was much tougher, directly waving her hand impatiently and saying: "There are plenty of people concerned about Shanni, we don't need you. Go, go, don't interrupt our sisters' conversation."

Sun Dawei wanted to say something more, but Wu Yue'er glared with her peach-blossom eyes, a fierce air appearing on her oval face; and indeed, the effect was immediate—Sun Dawei gave a sheepish laugh and scurried away.

If he stayed any longer, Sun Dawei had no doubt that this girl from the Northeast would start cursing and make him lose face on the spot.

Quite a few boys from the two classes had already suffered at her hands, and he didn't want to be the next victim.

"Yue'er, you're still the best at shooing away flies," Yu Youwei said with a giggle, giving a thumbs up.

"Hmph! I hate boys who have no self-awareness the most."

Wu Yue'er gave a cold snort and lifted her chin like a proud peacock; the other girls all looked at her with admiration, as she was simply a model for all girls.
