Chapter 13: Going to Work

"Wei Zhuguan, a new intern has arrived. I'm handing her over to you. She's a great beauty, oh." The Human Resources colleague said while smiling and pushing Bai Shuruo in front of Wei Zhuguan.

However, she just walked away with a giggle.

This Wei Zhuguan was busy, his eyes fixed tightly on the computer monitor in front of him, not even giving Bai Shuruo a proper look.

Bai Shuruo knew this was the workplace; as a new rookie, she could only wait.

Wei Zhuguan was about 35 years old, wore a pair of black-rimmed glasses, had his hair permed into yellow curls, and wore a stylish plaid shirt—a typical designer image.

After about 10 minutes or so, this Wei Zhuguan finally looked up at Bai Shuruo and asked, "Which school did you graduate from?"

She replied, "Fengcheng University."

"Coming to our company, you must be prepared to bear hardships. You just arrived, and I don't know what your professional level is, so you go out first and learn from your workmates. Our company is very strict; out of 10 probationers, only two can stay. If you can pass, you pass; if you can't, you're out."

Bai Shuruo nodded quickly.

It was really exhausting to listen to this Wei Zhuguan speak. If it weren't for Bai Shuruo's quick reactions and having passed the CET-6 in English, she wouldn't have known what this Wei Zhuguan was saying at all.

Could this also be a part of the test?

After Wei Zhuguan finished speaking, he called in a male colleague of about 27 years old and had that male colleague arrange a seat and assign work for Bai Shuruo.

The male colleague's eyes lit up when he saw Bai Shuruo.

She was wearing the new clothes she bought that day: the top was a casual striped T-shirt, underneath was a pair of suit-fabric trousers, paired with a small coffee-colored vest, making her look both young and dignified, extremely refined and beautiful.

"What should I call our new colleague?" the male colleague asked.

"My name is Bai Shuruo, and you?" Bai Shuruo asked. Being in the workplace meant being open and generous; she had spent all day yesterday at home researching workplace strategies.

"My name is Hao Jian."

"Is it... the Hao Jian from the Shen Teng sketch?" Bai Shuruo asked.

The male colleague scratched his head and laughed, "Why do you all ask that? But mine is the 'Jian' from Jianlibao."

Bai Shuruo couldn't help but smile.

Hao Jian led Bai Shuruo to the large cubicle area outside. This large cubicle area was divided into four sections, each section seating 8 people, with the interns in the outermost area by the window.

Seeing a young beauty enter, the people in the office were all excited and curious, so they started to tease.

"Another newcomer?"

"Does she have a boyfriend yet?"

When they reached the outermost area, someone called out "Bai Shuruo."

Bai Shuruo saw Xiang Feifei wearing glasses in the corner and couldn't help but breathe a sigh of relief; she had finally seen a familiar face!

Seeing that Xiang Feifei and Bai Shuruo knew each other, He Jian arranged for Bai Shuruo to sit next to Xiang Feifei and asked Bai Shuruo, "New employees have to undergo training every afternoon, you know that, right?"

Bai Shuruo nodded quickly: "I know, the colleague from Human Resources already told me."

"That's fine. In the morning, you should first familiarize yourself with our company's processes and systems, as well as our department's product design, and understand what products we have and which ones need upgrading."

Bai Shuruo wanted to say that she already had a husband, but it didn't seem necessary. If she said it, Xiang Feifei would definitely ask a lot of questions, so it was better not to say it for now.

The food in the CG cafeteria was quite good; Bai Shuruo ordered a serving of four-joy meatballs, a portion of rice, a vegetable dish, and added a complimentary soup.

Xiang Feifei ordered two chicken drumsticks, and seeing that Bai Shuruo was only eating one vegetable dish, she couldn't help but pick up one of the drumsticks and place it in Bai Shuruo's bowl.

"Why are you giving me a chicken drumstick? I can't eat it." Bai Shuruo didn't want Xiang Feifei's, so she returned the drumstick to her.

Xiang Feifei picked it up and placed it back for Bai Shuruo, saying, "Just eat it. I only remembered after buying them that I ate too much for breakfast; I definitely won't be able to finish this drumstick."

Xiang Feifei had heard very early on that the talented girl from the engineering department, Bai Shuruo, had no parents and was being put through school by her older sister, which was why she was especially frugal with her spending at school.

And Xiang Feifei truly couldn't eat two chicken drumsticks; she knew Bai Shuruo had strong self-esteem and certainly wouldn't have intentionally bought two just to give her one.

If you eat someone's food, you'll be soft-spoken; if you take someone's things, you'll be soft-handed—Xiang Feifei knew at least this much.

Bai Shuruo still refused to take it and returned the chicken drumstick to Xiang Feifei.

Xiang Feifei had no choice but to force herself to eat it.

They were originally sitting at one table, but before long, three male colleagues came over and insisted on squeezing in to sit with them.

"Eating so little, beauty?" one of the male colleagues asked Bai Shuruo.

Bai Shuruo said, "I have a small appetite."

But that male colleague actually picked up a piece of fried chicken wing and placed it in Bai Shuruo's bowl: "Have a chicken wing. I just got it, I haven't touched it."

Another male colleague picked up a piece of pig's trotter for Bai Shuruo: "Are you just starting your internship and afraid to spend money recklessly? You can't even bear to eat a proper meal. Our company is too competitive; if you don't eat your fill, you won't have the energy to work."

The last male colleague gave Bai Shuruo a piece of dessert and said, "She's a girl; she won't like such greasy things. Strawberry cake is more to a girl's taste."

Bai Shuruo looked at the extra food in her tray and felt nothing but discomfort.

But she wasn't used to rejecting people, and just as she was wondering if returning this food would offend her colleagues, someone called out to her.

"Huh, isn't this the great beauty of our department, Bai Shuruo? You came to work today?"
