Chapter 130: Waiting for Him to Return
Ali asked, "Is the Young Mistress afraid?"
"How can I not be? I'm afraid that not a single person in the company will submit to me," Bai Shuruo said with a mournful face.
It was only because she was close with Ali; if it were anyone else, she would not have shown her anxiety.
Ali said nonchalantly, "If they don't submit to you, you can just cut their salaries, or issue a notice for them to transfer posts. That way, they'll have to submit whether they want to or not."
Bai Shuruo chuckled, "Can you really do that?"
"Of course. You're the boss now. If they won't even listen to the boss, shouldn't they have their pay and rank cut?"
Bai Shuruo knew Ali was coaxing her so she wouldn't be afraid, so she said, "Fine, then can this tactic be used on you?"
"Of course it can, but I don't think I've been disobedient, have I? My annual salary isn't high either; please show mercy, Young Mistress. I have elders above and children below to support."
"Then I'd better win them over with virtue. I wonder how my mother-in-law did it back then? I always feel I'm not as capable as her."
"That was all honed through practice. If the Young Mistress reaches her age, you won't be any worse than her."
"Ali, thank you for the comfort," Bai Shuruo said inside the elevator.
Ali had already issued a notice in advance that from now on, the company's decision-making matters would need to go through Bai Shuruo, as Bai Shuruo was now the Acting President.
When Bai Shuruo arrived at the President's office, the gazes of the few Secretaries outside carried a certain amount of skepticism; she was too young, and she looked frail.
Although they were still very polite to her, and even stood up respectfully to greet her with "Hello, President Bai" when they saw her coming, Bai Shuruo knew they did not trust her.
Bai Shuruo thought of how Han Yangting usually treated them—he would just nod and then head straight to his office.
She also mimicked Han Yangting's manner.
However, she was not Han Yangting after all; doing these actions felt somewhat like a fox borrowing the tiger's might, putting on an act.
So when she reached the door, she stopped, then turned around and smiled at them.
"Linda, Bonnie, Nora, Ani, we have worked together before, so you know what kind of person I am. I just graduated from university; if it weren't for the accident with President Han, I would absolutely not be sitting in his position."
After Bai Shuruo spoke, Linda and the others all looked at her with curiosity.
It was the first time they had seen such a frank and straightforward young lady.
Bai Shuruo added, "You are all people President Han trusts, and I need your assistance in this position. So, in the coming days, please take care of me, and let us wait for President Han to return together."
Bai Shuruo was so sincere that Linda and the others felt embarrassed instead, and they hurriedly said:
"President Bai, don't be so formal. It is our duty to assist you."
"That's right, let's wait for President Han to return together."
"If there is anything you are unclear about, you can ask us; we will certainly tell you everything we know."
Bai Shuruo smiled gratefully, and only then did she enter the office.
However, as soon as she entered, her head began to ache again.
Linda brewed her some coffee and then brought in a stack of documents, "President Bai, these are all for your review. If there are no issues, please sign them."
Bai Shuruo nervously took a large gulp of coffee.
No wonder she always saw Han Yangting clutching a laptop to handle emails; it turned out there were so many documents that required his attention.
Things like engineering payment approvals, new product inspection reports, product mass production audits, new client orders...
She also knew that these documents presented to her had already gone through several layers, and the managers of each department had already signed them; by the time they reached her, it was just a matter of signing.
But in order to gain a deeper understanding of the business, she still read them one by one.
Just as she was reading, Linda notified her to go to a meeting; there was a meeting that required her presence.
She bit the bullet and went; it was a meeting for the Sales Department, and the general direction required her to make the final call.
As it turned out, knowing that Ali would also be there, she felt a bit more at ease. If she hadn't known, she would have asked Ali.
However, Ali was not omnipotent. He handled miscellaneous matters well, but he couldn't make up his mind on these things either; after all, not everyone had a brain like Han Yangting's.
Bai Shuruo was so nervous she kept drinking water. As the meeting was about to end, the Sales Director asked her, "President Bai, what do you think?"
Bai Shuruo actually hadn't understood much of it at all, and on top of that, she had drunk too much water and needed to use the restroom.
She had no choice but to put on an act and say, "I need to ponder this carefully. Don't you have the documents? Send the specific documents to my office, and I will give you an answer after I have studied them thoroughly."
The Sales Director's scalp went numb.
This meeting was supposed to be for her to make the final call, but now she wanted to study it further; wouldn't this meeting have been held in vain?
However, everyone in the company knew she had been entrusted with this task in a crisis, so they dared not have any complaints and had to do as she said.
Back in the office, after Bai Shuruo finished using the restroom, she leaned against her chair, exhausted, and wanted to cry.
It was too hard, her heart was tired, and she wanted to just walk away and quit the job.
Fortunately, Ye Caiyue called at this time to ask if everything had gone smoothly today.
Bai Shuruo spoke with an almost tearful voice, "It didn't go very smoothly; there are many things I don't understand."
"Which ones don't you understand? You can ask me."
Bai Shuruo then reported everything to Ye Caiyue over the phone.
Although Ye Caiyue wanted to train Bai Shuruo, she wouldn't just leave her in this position and ignore her completely. On the phone, after listening to Bai Shuruo, she provided appropriate guidance on the direction. Especially regarding the Sales Department, she needed to provide instructions as soon as possible.
Only then did Bai Shuruo feel the pressure was not as great.
But just after processing a few documents, Linda notified her to go to another meeting.
This time she had experience; she first had Linda print out the content to be discussed in the meeting, studied the issues herself for half an hour, and then asked Ye Caiyue, before biting the bullet to go to the meeting.
This meeting was about the funding for the Thailand branch, and it also required her to make the final decision.
As it happened, Han Chunqiu was among those who came to this meeting.
As soon as Bai Shuruo saw Han Chunqiu, she knew something was going to go wrong.
Sure enough, not long into the meeting, Han Chunqiu asked Bai Shuruo, "General Manager Bai, have you been to the branch office? Do you understand the scale over there?"
Fortunately, Bai Shuruo had done her homework before the meeting, and she said, "I don't understand it perfectly, but I do understand some of it."
Han Chunqiu said sarcastically, "Understanding is understanding, and not understanding is not understanding; what is this 'understanding some of it'?"
Bai Shuruo did not back down and said, "The branch office is so large, there are at least twenty thousand workers there; I don't know what Vice Manager Han wants to ask. If you are asking for the name of every employee, I certainly cannot answer that. Why don't you ask me something specific and see if I can answer it?"
Han Chunqiu said, "What we need to discuss is whether there is a need to improve the factory accommodation conditions over there. Do you know what the cost of living is there? If we are to improve it, exactly how much do we need to invest, and is there a need to invest?"
