Chapter 300: Seems Like My Own Child
That newborn baby, still sticky, was being held by a nurse to be wiped clean.
According to protocol, a newborn baby is supposed to be brought over by the doctor to ask if it is a boy or a girl, so that the mother does not suspect the baby was swapped.
However, Bai Shuruo's delivery room was a super VIP one; she was the only patient on the entire floor, and with over a dozen doctors watching, the doctors saw that the mother was only thinking about eating after the birth and the father was only thinking about feeding the mother, so they did not disturb them.
Han Yangting went to take a look and saw a pink, chubby little baby with a "handle."
But he only took one look before coming over, then held Bai Shuruo's hand and said, "It's a little brother."
Bai Shuruo could not help but beam with joy: "That's good, really good, Xiaofeng has a little brother now."
Which parents wouldn't hope to have both a son and a daughter?
Once Bai Shuruo had recovered, the nurse brought the baby over again and placed him beside her, saying, "Mrs. Han, would you like to give the baby a feed?"
Bai Shuruo knew this was to let the baby suckle first, so as to help produce more milk later.
"Alright, let him suckle for a while," Bai Shuruo said.
The male doctors in the delivery room had already left, and now there were only female doctors and nurses, plus Han Yangting, so Bai Shuruo did not worry about it too much and opened her collar to let the baby feed.
Han Yangting watched from the side, feeling very heartbroken.
They hadn't even left the delivery room yet, and his wife already had to endure such suffering.
He had originally wanted to have four or five children, but now he regretted it; two would be enough, absolutely no more.
After being observed in the delivery room for an hour and confirming there were no issues, Bai Shuruo was wheeled back to the VIP ward.
For safety's sake, Han Yangting still felt it was better to let Bai Shuruo stay in the hospital for two days and wait until she had recovered before taking her home.
The VIP ward allowed nannies to be brought in, so Han Yangting arranged for two or three, taking turns holding the baby whenever he cried, to ensure Bai Shuruo got plenty of rest.
……
Far away in Baoshan County, Ling Feng was scrolling through his social media feed that day when he saw that Han Yangting, who hadn't posted in a very, very long time, had actually updated.
The attached image was of a newborn baby, and the text read: The mother of the child has worked hard.
When Ling Feng saw it, he was as happy as if it were his own child.
He immediately sent a message to Han Yangting: Congratulations, brother, remember to invite me to the full-month banquet.
After waiting for three hours, Han Yangting finally replied: Get a big red envelope ready.
Ling Feng smiled foolishly.
That day when he returned to the guesthouse, he invited Mou Lili out for barbecue again.
While eating, he said excitedly: "That little baby looks so cute, all pink and tender; when he grows up, he'll look good whether he takes after his father or his mother."
Mou Lili said impatiently: "Alright, alright, you've been talking about it all day. Is it that you want one yourself? If you want one, just find someone to have one with."
Ling Feng looked at her and didn't dare to say anything more.
He did want to have one, but he had to find someone to have one with first.
No, that wasn't it; he was just happy for Han Yangting, not truly wanting a child of his own.
A child should be born with love and blessings so that they can live happily in the future.
Seeing that Ling Feng had suddenly stopped talking, Mou Lili couldn't help but reflect on herself.
Was she too harsh just now?
Why did she interrupt him? She should have just let him keep talking; it wouldn't have cost her anything to listen.
But she really had never seen a man so happy to see someone else have a baby, acting as if he had given birth to it himself.
It was also possible that their brotherhood was just that good.
……
After Mou Lili went back, she checked the backend of her short video account again.
She hadn't uploaded any new songs these past few days, and the oranges were mostly sold out too.
So her life had suddenly become relaxed again.
But videos still needed to be updated frequently; once she stopped updating, she would easily lose followers.
Fortunately, she had met quite a few friends in music during this time; when some friends released new songs and had nowhere to promote them, the singers would help each other by covering and promoting them.
Mou Lili had also received requests from a few pen pals who wrote songs, hoping she would help promote them by singing and playing.
Mou Lili contacted them, got the sheet music, closed the doors and windows tight, and began to play and sing in her room.
Wearing a mask did affect the tone, so she didn't record her face, only the part from the neck down.
She sang with great focus, oblivious to everything outside her window.
But Ling Feng, next door, heard her.
He walked to her door and listened quietly to her singing inside.
Her smoky voice always carried a hint of melancholy, making one quickly become intoxicated.
Even if it was a song written by someone else, she could sing it with her own unique flavor.
After listening, Ling Feng returned to his room in silence.
After waiting for half an hour, he saw her video account update; it was exactly the song she had just played and sung in her room.
Ling Feng lay on his bed, looping it over and over until he had almost memorized the lyrics.
After Mou Lili finished recording the song and uploaded it, she checked her backend messages again.
Someone saw that her IP location was in Gui Province and left a comment inviting her to participate in the provincial Ten Great Singers Competition.
This competition required singers to sing songs they had composed themselves, and the songs had to have local characteristics and incorporate local ethnic customs, essentially like an assigned essay topic.
Mou Lili usually wasn't interested in such activities, but she suddenly thought of the children she was looking after.
If she could compose a song and let the children participate in the performance, and use this as an opportunity to take them to the city, it would be a rare experience for the children, one worth remembering for a lifetime.
Mou Lili made a prompt decision.
Seeing that there were still 5 days until the registration deadline, she decisively signed up.
Anyway, there were still half a month left until the competition, and she believed she could write a song.
……
However, songwriting relies on inspiration; sometimes when one creates deliberately, the work ends up being mediocre.
Mou Lili stayed up for several days, but her mind remained a mess.
Writing a song was fine, but writing one with local characteristics was not easy; she felt that everything she wrote was trash, not high-class at all, just like a vapid pop song.
Forget it, anyway, it was only the preliminary round in half a month; if she couldn't write one, she just wouldn't go.
Ling Feng saw that Mou Lili had been looking frazzled these past few days, and he wanted to share her burden, but he was helpless as he was an idiot when it came to music—he could neither play nor sing, so he couldn't help at all.
But Ling Feng had a quick mind, and he knew how to help Mou Lili find material.
While supervising work that day, he heard the villagers say that the neighboring village was going to hold its annual Lusheng Festival.
The lusheng is considered a sacred instrument by the locals, and it must be brought out to be played during festivals and holidays.
Ling Feng asked about the time, and it happened to be the day after tomorrow.
For such a grand festival, not only would the villagers from the neighboring village attend, but villagers from all the surrounding areas would also go; everyone would put on traditional ethnic clothing, singing and dancing to celebrate the festival together.
Ling Feng immediately told Mou Lili this news.
Mou Lili's eyes lit up.
Perhaps going to participate in the Lusheng Festival would provide some inspiration.
