Chapter 328: Childhood Friends
After work, Wang Xintong called Ling Feng: "Brother Ling Feng, have you finished work?"
"Just about to, what's up?" Ling Feng assumed Wang Xintong was calling about the wedding preparations.
Wang Xintong asked: "Then what is Brother Ling Feng planning to have for dinner?"
"I'll just have something simple when I get home." Ling Feng smiled.
He didn't dislike Wang Xintong now, but he didn't like her enough to want to see her every day, so his tone remained indifferent.
"Brother Ling Feng, how can you just have something simple? Wait for me at home, I'll have takeout delivered to you. I know the owner of a restaurant, he's a Michelin-starred chef, and the food he makes is exquisite, beautiful, and delicious."
Ling Feng said: "Isn't that too much trouble? The chef at my house isn't bad either."
"It's no trouble, not any trouble at all, you just wait for me."
Wang Xintong hung up the phone and immediately drove to a nearby restaurant.
This restaurant looked unremarkable, but in reality, it was already famous, and many super influencers had come to check it out. However, you had to make a reservation to eat here because the owner was very temperamental; he opened when he wanted to and wouldn't open for half a month if he didn't want to, and the ingredients were all carefully selected by the owner.
But Wang Xintong didn't need a reservation because the owner, Fu Dongxin, was her childhood friend.
As soon as Wang Xintong arrived, she walked in carelessly, "Old Fu, what's there to eat today?"
Fu Dongxin poked his head out from the kitchen window. Seeing Wang Xintong had come, his eyes clearly brightened, but on the surface, he maintained a steady appearance. He pointed to the small blackboard on the counter: "Today's menu is all here, see for yourself."
Wang Xintong took a look: "Give me one of everything."
"Can you eat that much? Didn't you always say you had a bird's appetite and needed to lose weight?" Fu Dongxin asked.
"It's for my husband to eat."
Fu Dongxin's eyes dimmed. He wiped a tear with the towel hanging around his neck and said: "Almost forgot you're already a married woman."
"Yeah, you know I've wanted to marry Brother Ling Feng since I was little."
Fu Dongxin said: "Today's ingredients have already been ordered by guests, there's none for you."
"Hey, is this the treatment a married woman gets?" Wang Xintong asked.
"I don't like married women."
Wang Xintong said: "If you don't make it, I'll post the bad things you did in elementary school to the elementary school group, the bad things you did in middle school to the middle school group, and the bad things you did in college to the college group."
Fu Dongxin asked: "Do you really have to do that?"
"Yes!"
"Fine, then I'll make a portion of everything for you."
Wang Xintong said triumphantly: "That's more like it."
Fu Dongxin's restaurant only had 4 tables, and now all 4 tables were full of people. One of the guests shouted: "Miss, what kind of bad things has this owner done in the past? It feels like he's done a lot of bad things."
Wang Xintong laughed: "Just some things that bad men have all done, but nothing illegal, nothing involving moral issues, and he's already turned over a new leaf."
The guest said: "Then I'm relieved."
Fu Dongxin muttered while cooking: "Those things of mine, weren't they all instigated by you? You had a part in them too."
Wang Xintong was triumphant: "But I was the one taking the photos, recording it for you; I was just a witness."
"Despicable!" Fu Dongxin squeezed the lemon in his hand hard onto a bowl of sour and spicy noodles.
"Human hearts are treacherous, who told you not to guard against me?"
"The unluckiest thing in this life is knowing you," Fu Dongxin said.
"Too late."
That guest joked again: "Are you two a pair of bickering lovers?"
Fu Dongxin paused.
Wang Xintong immediately denied it: "We're bickering, but lovers? Forget it, we're childhood friends."
"Then I misunderstood, sorry about that," the guest laughed.
"It's okay, a lot of people say that, maybe it's because we're so close, we've known each other since kindergarten."
Finally, the meal was ready. Wang Xintong contacted a courier and had him deliver the food to Ling Feng's house.
Fu Dongxin didn't provide takeout here. He watched the courier leave and asked Wang Xintong: "Are you sure this food can be delivered to his mouth?"
"I'll supervise him eating it," Wang Xintong said.
"Are you hungry? Should I cook you a bowl of noodles?"
"Okay, I'll have a bowl of Thai sour and spicy noodles," Wang Xintong said.
Fu Dongxin said: "Letting your husband eat so well, while you just get by with a bowl of noodles."
"That's only because the noodles you make are delicious."
Because the tables inside the restaurant were already full, Wang Xintong had to sit at the small bar outside the kitchen to eat.
Just as the noodles were served, she estimated that Ling Feng's meal had already been delivered, so she made another call to Ling Feng: "Brother Ling Feng, you must eat the takeout I sent you."
Ling Feng said: "Since you sent it, I will definitely eat it."
"That's good."
Wang Xintong was finally relieved, and she picked up her chopsticks to eat the noodles.
Fu Dongxin also finished his work for the day, as he only served four tables of guests a day.
He walked over, carrying two cups of tea he had brewed himself, and handed one to Wang Xintong.
Wang Xintong took it naturally and said: "Thank you."
"How are your wedding preparations going?" Fu Dongxin asked.
"Basically done, just waiting for the wedding. Is your big red envelope ready?"
"Don't worry, 200 will definitely be there."
"Stingy."
"Stingy? The minimum spend for a table of guests here is 2000. How many meals have you freeloaded off me over these years? Have you ever paid?"
"That's true, I haven't," Wang Xintong said. "Right, I'm going to have to trouble you to provide me with three meals for this next period of time, and send them to Brother Ling Feng. Don't worry, I will definitely pay this time."
"I won't do it!" Fu Dongxin said. "I really don't understand you. Your own circumstances aren't bad, why must you cling to him so desperately?"
Seeing that most of the guests had left, Wang Xintong hurriedly said, "No, this is my plan to make him fall in love with me; this is the first step."
"What a joke. How many times have you planned this before? Has he fallen in love with you? If you ask me, you'd be better off marrying me than him; at least I can cook for you," Fu Dongxin said.
"What a joke, you're my childhood friend. My feelings for you are just like those for my sister, how could I marry you? You couldn't possibly really want to marry me either, right? Are you willing to look at the same person for your whole life? In any case, I'm not willing."
"Besides, even though my plans failed in the past, it doesn't mean they will fail now. Now I have an expert giving me pointers, it's called 'playing hard to get.' He will definitely fall in love with me this time."
Fu Dongxin rolled her eyes at her: "You really are a love-struck fool."
"One lives but once, one must go through fire and water at least once."
Ling Feng was already eating at home.
Opening the lunch box and seeing the dishes in front of him, he did indeed feel a sense of pleasant surprise.
He tasted them again and felt they were indeed quite good.
He had eaten many expensive meals, but he always felt they didn't live up to their reputation and were just gimmicks.
